ARTICLE 25. To see what sum of money the town will vote to raise and appropriate for paving gutters the ensuing year.

ARTICLE 43. To see whether the town will vote that for the coming year no town official shall be in any way, directly or indirectly, interested in, or a party to, any contract for supplies or materials to which the town is also a party.


ARTICLE 44. . To see whether the town will appoint a committee to consider the purchase of a lot of land cen- trally located in town, to serve for a plant and headquar- ters for the Fire Department, for work on highways, and other Town Departments as may be desired, and to report at the April meeting.


ARTICLE 45. To see if the town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of five hundred dollars to be expended by the Board of Engineers of the Fire Depart- ment in setting two hydrants near the Bindery of H. M. Plimpton & Co., in the purchase and installing a set of swinging harness in Hose House No. 1 and in Hose House No. 2 and for painting Hose House No. 1, the present year.


ARTICLE 46. To see if the town will vote to pur- chase a lot of land on Fulton Street, near the end of Lyden Street, for a schoolhouse lot as recommended by the Schoolhouse Committee, and to choose a committee to build a schoolhouse thereon, and to raise and appro- priate or borrow money for the same or to take any other action in the matter.


ARTICLE 47. To see if the town will vote to appro- priate and pay to Mary U. Pond, widow of Charles E. Pond, late Town Treasurer, the salary to which he would have been entitled had he lived until the end of the current year.

ARTICLE 48. To see if the town will vote to auth- orize the Collector of Taxes to use the same means as a Town Treasurer may use when acting as Collector.


And the polls may be closed as early as four o'clock in the afternoon of said day.

At a legal meeting of the inhabitants of the Town of Nor- wood in said County of Norfolk, qualified to vote in town affairs, held pursuant to the foregoing warrant at Village hall, on Monday, the third day of March, A. D. 1902, the meeting was called to order at 6.45 o'clock A. M.

Article 1. James A. Halloran chosen Moderator. Moderator.


Article 2. Before the opening of the polls, specimen bal- lots, cards of instruction and penalties were posted accord- ing to law. The following named Ballot Clerks and Tellers appointed by the Selectmen and those appointed by Modera- tor were sworn to the faithful discharge of their duties, namely :- Ballot Clerks, Joseph Schuster, J. G. Hollings- worth, Edward P. Tucker, Conrad Readel, Arthur N. Hartshorn, Frank M. Readel, Thomas F. Mahoney; Tel- lers, George O. Capen, George H. Dexter, Michael J. Mur- phy, John J. Nevel, John J. Tobin, Milton Rock, Harry Tellers. Holton, Frank W. Talbot.


Ballot Clerks.


The Town Clerk delivered to the Ballot Clerks the bundle containing fifteen hundred official ballots and three hundred sixty special official ballots for School Committee only, and receipt was taken for the same; also two voting lists con- taining the names of twelve hundred twenty-three male voters. During the election three certificates from the Registrars for persons whose names had been omitted from the voting list by clerical errors, were presented to the Moderator and same became a part of the list, making a total number of male voters 1226, and two women's voting lists, containing two hundred ninety-six. The ballot box was opened and exposed to view, the register set at zero, the polls declared open by the Moderator, and voting com- menced at 7 o'clock A. M.


On motion voted that the polls be closed at 4.40 o'clock P. M., at which time they were closed, the ballot box reg- istering thirteen hundred and twenty. The voting lists were compared and found to agree. Number of male voters checked, 1,113; women voters checked, 213. For some reason the ballot box did not register correctly. After the canvass of ballots the ballots and voting lists were sealed up and delivered to the Town Clerk. The Moderator then made the following announcement:


Whole number of official ballots cast, eleven hundred and twelve. Special official ballots for School Committee only, two hundred thirteen. The number of ballots cast and the names on voting lists checked did not agree and the error could not be found.
