TOWN OF NORWOOD,


FOR THE YEAR ENDING JANUARY 31. 1901.

To either Constable in the Town of Norwood, in said Annual Tow & GREETING : Meeting War- rant, March 5,

In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts 1900. you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabi- tants of the Town of Norwood, qualified to vote in elec- tions and town affairs, to assemble in Village Hall, in said town, on Monday, the fifth day of March, A. D. 1900, at seven o'clock in the forenoon, then and there to act on the following articles, namely :-


ARTICLE 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meeting.


ARTICLE 2. To choose all necessary Town Officers. The following are to be chosen by ballot, namely : Three Selectmen, who shall be Assessors, Overseers of the Poor, and Surveyors of Highways, one Town Clerk, one Town Treasurer, one Collector of Taxes, three Auditors, three Park Commissioners, and six Constables, all for one year ; one member of the Board of Health for three years, one Water Commissioner for three years, two School Committee for three years, and two Trustees of the Morrill Memorial Library for three years; and also upon the same ballot to vote upon the question, " Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxicating liquors in the town?" All Town Officers, except as above named, are to be chosen for one year.


AtrieLE 3. To see if the town will vote that here- after there shall be annually elected by ballot a Tree Warden to serve for one year.


ARTICLE 4. To hear and act on the report of the

Auditors on the Selectmen's, Treasurer's Tax Collector's, and Water Commissioners' accounts.


ARTICLE 5. To see if the town will vote to accept of the list of Jurors, as prepared by the Selectmen, and posted as required by law.


ARTICLE 6. To hear and act on the report of the Committee appointed to consider the purchase of the land at the corner of Guild and Washington Streets, and to make any appropriation therefor.


ARTICLE 7. To hear and act on the reports of Com- mittees.


ARTICLE 8. To see what action the town will take in regard to the unexpended appropriations of the last year.


ARTICLE 9. To see what disposition the town will make of money received as excise tax from the street railway companies.


ARTICLE 10. To see what disposition the town will make of money received for dog licenses.


ARTICLE 11. To see if the town will raise and appro- priate money for the support of the Morrill Memorial Library.


ARTICLE 12. To see if the town will raise and appro- priate the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars for the use of George K. Bird Post, No. 169, Grand Army of the Republic, for the purpose of decorating soldiers' graves on Memorial Day.


ARTICLE 13. To see what sum of money the town will raise and appropriate for the support of the Fire Department the ensuing year.


ARTICLE 14. To see what sum of money the town will raise and appropriate for the support of the Fire Alarm System the ensuing year.


ARTICLE 15. To see what sum of money the town will vote to raise and appropriate to water the streets the present year.

will raise and appropriate for lighting streets the cur- rent year.


ARTICLE 17. To see what appropriation the town will vote to provide plans, maps, and books for the use of the Assessors of Taxes.


ARTICLE 18. To see what sum of money the town will raise and appropriate for the support of schools the ensuing year.


ARTICLE 19. To see what appropriation the town will vote to convey children living in the outlying dis- tricts to the Norwood schools.


ARTICLE 20. To see what appropriation the town will vote to pay the expense of chiklren at the Truant School.


ARTICLE 21. To see what sum of money the town will raise and appropriate to meet the expense of the Board of Health.


ARTICLE 22. To see what sum of money the town will raise and appropriate to be expended in trimming shade trees the current year.


ARTICLE 23. To see what sum of money the town will raise and appropriate for the prosection of illegal sales of liquor.


ARTICLE 24. To see if the town will authorize the Selectmen to contract with the State Highway Commis- sioners for the building of a portion of the State High- way, and raise and appropriate money for that purpose.


ARTICLE 25. To see what sums of money the town will vote to raise and appropriate to defray the inci- dental and other necessary expenses not otherwise pro- vided for the current year.


ARTICLE 26. To see if town will vote to have a ditch or drain dug through the lands of Dennis Mccarthy, Rea Brothers, Alvin Fuller, and others, to carry off the water that runs under Lenox Street to its proper course, and raise and appropriate money for that purpose.


ARTICLE 27. To see what sum of money the town

will vote to raise and appropriate for the repairs of highways the current year.


ARTICLE 28. To see what sum of money the town will raise and appropriate for building concrete walks and for setting edgestones the current year.


ARTICLE 29. To see what sum of money the town will raise and appropriate for paving gutters the ensu- ing year.


ARTICLE 30. To see what sum of money the town will raise and appropriate to be expended in grading Cross Street the current year.


ARTICLE 31. To see what sum of money the town. will raise and appropriate to be expended in grading Prospect Street the current year.


ARTICLE 32. To see if the town will vote to gravel Quincy Avenue. and raise and appropriate money for that purpose.


ARTICLE 33. To see if the town will vote to extend the water mains on Quincy Avenue, and appropriate money for that purpose, subject to the usual guaranty.


ARTICLE 34. To see if the town will vote to grade Phillips Avenue, as far as said Avenue bas been accept- ed, and build a sidewalk on the easterly side of said Avenue, and raise and appropriate money for that pur- pose.


ARTICLE 35. To see if the town will vote to build a retaining wall on Chapel Street, west of Cedar Street, near the house of John Benkert, and raise and appro- priate money for the same.


ARTICLE 36. To see what action the town will take in regard to the drainage on Williams Street, and raise and appropriate money for that purpose.


ARTICLE 37. To see if the town will vote to anthor- ize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money in anticipation of the taxes for the present municipal year, and to issue notes of the town therefor. The debts incurred under the authority of this vote are hereby made payable from said taxes.

ARTICLE 38. To see if the town will vote to accept of the extension of Fulton Street to Prospect Avenue, and raise and appropriate money to gravel the same.


ARTICLE 39. To see if the town will vote to accept of High View Street as laid out by the Selectmen.


ARTICLE 40. To see if the town will vote to accept of Upton Avenue as laid out by the Selectmen.


ARTICLE 41. To see if the town will vote to accept of Sanders Road as laid out by the Selectmen, from Wal- pole Street over land of George H. Smith to Highland Street, and raise and appropriate money to gravel the same.


ARTICLE 42. To see if the town will vote to accept of the extension of Highland Street, about five hundred feet. and raise and appropriate money to grade and gravel the same.


ARTICLE 43. To see if the town will vote to extend the water mains on Wilson Street to the Walpole town line, and raise and appropriate or borrow money for that purpose, subject to the usual guaranty.


ARTICLE 44. To see if the town will vote to lay water mains on High View Street, and raise and appropriate money for that purpose, subject to the usual guaranty.


ARTICLE 45. To see if the town will vote to lay water mains on Upton Avenue, and raise and appropri- ate money for the same, subject to the usual guaranty.


ARTICLE 46. To see what action the town will take in regard to rebuilding the bridge over the river on Ne- ponset Street, and raise and appropriate money for that purpose.


ARTICLE 47. To see if the town will accept of Doug- lass Avenue as laid out by the Seleetmen, and raise and appropriate money to gravel said Avenue.


ARTICLE 48. To see if the town will vote to extend the water mains on Douglass Avenue to Winslow Ave- nue, and raise and appropriate money for the same, sub- ject to the usual guaranty.

ARTICLE 49. To see if the town will vote to purchase one thousand feet of hose for the use of the fire depart- ment, and raise and appropriate money for that purpose.


ARTICLE 50. To see if the town will vote to build a retaining wall on Myrtle Street, between the house of Mark Conley and that of Andrew Kelley, and raise and appropriate the sum of three hundred dollars for that purpose.


ARTICLE 51. To see if the town will authorize the Collector of Taxes to use the same means as a Town Treasurer may use when acting as Collector.


ARTICLE 52. To see what appropriation the town will make for the purpose of grading Davis Avenue.


ARTICLE 53. To see if the town will vote to accept of the extension of Rock Street. from Monroe Street to Lenox Street, as laid out by the Selectmen.


ARTICLE 54. To see if the town will accept that part of Prospect Avenue leading from Nichols Street to the part accepted by the town at the last annual meeting, and raise and appropriate money to gravel the same.


And the polls may be closed as early as four and one- half o'clock in the afternoon of said day.


And you are directed to serve this warrant by posting attested copies in ten public places in this town seven days at least before the day of said meeting.

official ballots for School Committee only, and receipt taken for the same. Also 2 voting lists containing the names of 1,034 male voters and 221 woman voters. The ballot box was opened and exposed to view, the register set at zero, and voting commenced at 7:10 o'clock A. M.


Closing of polls.


On motion voted that the polls be closed at 5 o'clock, at which time they were closed and the ballot box regis- tered 915; the ballot box did not register correctly. The voting list compared and found to agree with the following result :


Number of male voters checked, 812; women voters, 115.


After the canvas of ballots the tally sheets, voting lists and ballots were sealed up and delivered to the Town Clerk. The moderator then made the following announcement :
