SPECIAL TOWN MEETING July 23, 1934
On a warrant duly issued by the Selectmen and dated July 10, 1934, and signed by Peter J. Feeney, Eugene L. Murphy, John M. Mutch, Daniel Collins and Harry B. Butters, Selectmen of Norwood, the proper service of which warrant was duly attested by Lawrence P. Balduf, Constable of Norwood.
All of the requirements of the Statutes and By-Laws relating to Town Meetings having been complied with, the meeting was called to order by the Moderator, Judge James A. Halloran, the articles contained in the warrant and the action thereunder being as follows:
Article 1. To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by taxation and borrow and appropriate to be used with a sum or sums allotted by the Department of Public Works of the Commonwealth to meet the expense of the construction of a highway including land damages as laid out and relocated under the Orders of the County Commissioners of the County of Norfolk, and being an extension of existing Nahatan Street from Broadway to Pleasant Street, and a relocation of said Nahatan Street between Central Street and Broadway, or take any other action in the matter.
Tellers were appointed and sworn by the Moderator, and on rising vote, voting "yes" one hundred and six and "no" one, it was
Voted: That the sum of $60,500, be appropriated to be used with a suin or sums allotted by the Department of Public Works of the Common- wealth of Massachusetts, and to be expended under its direction, of which sum $6,500 shall be raised by taxation and $54,000 by borrowing; and further voted that with respect to the construction of that portion of said Nahatan Street as laid out by the County Commissioners and located between Broadway and Lenox Street the Selectmen are authorized and directed to request the Department of Public Works of the Common- wealth of Massachusetts to supervise, direct and approve the award by and provisions of a contract or contracts on bids under the provisions of Chap. 90 of the General Laws, and in a sumn not in excess of $75,000 the construction of the necessary underpass through property of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad Company, including retaining

walls in accordance with plans prepared by said Department of Public Works together with such excavation of the approaches to said underpass as may be necessary to bring the surface of that portion of the highway to subgrade.
Article 2. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, a new way as laid out and reported by the Selectmen and being an extension of existing Pleasant Street from Neponset Street to the new state highway, and to raise by taxation or borrow a sum of money and to appropriate the same to meet the expense of land damage and of completing the con- struction of said new way, said sum to be used with such sum or sums as may be allotted by the Federal Emergency Relief Administration, or take any other action in the matter.
Voted: To accept, and by borrowing the sum of $2,300 to meet the ex- pense of land damage and of completing the construction of said new way together with such sum or sums as may be allotted by the Federal Emer- gency Relief Administration.
Article 3. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, a new way, as laid out and reported by the Selectmen and being an extension of existing Fisher Street to Nichols Street, and to raise or borrow and ap- propriate a sum of money to meet the expense of land damages and of the construction of said new way, and the further expense of completing the construction of existing Fisher Street, said sum to be used with such sum or sums as may be allotted by the Federal Emergency Relief Administra- tion, or take any other action in the matter.
Unanimously voted to accept, and by borrowing the sum of $2,400 to meet the expense of land damage and of constructing said new way, and for the further expense of completing the construction of existing Fisher Street and said sum to be used with such sum or sums as may be allotted by the Federal Emergency Relief Administration.
Article 4. To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by taxation or borrow and appropriate for the construction of sewers, for sanitary purposes, and for surface drainage purposes, or take any other action in the matter.
Unanimously voted: By taxation the sum of $6,500 and by borrowing the sum of $18,000.
Article 5. To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by taxation for repairs of highways for the purpose of resurfacing Beacon Avenue, the same to be in addition to sums heretofore appropriated for said purpose.
Unanimously voted: By taxation the sum of $900.
Article 6. To see what further sums of money the Town will vote to appropriate from the receipts of the Water Department for the following

purposes, namely: (a) Repairs of, or replacement of pumping equipment at the Purgatory Brook Pumping Plant; (b) Construction of Water Mains.

Article 7. To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by taxation and appropriate in addition to sums heretofore appropriated for the following purposes, namely: (a) Maintenance of Municipal Office Building, including the expense of Carillon Concerts; (b) Purchase of new equipment in the Highway Department; (c) Reserve Fund; (d) Planning Board.

To see if the Town will vote to lease from Winslow Bros. & Smith Company a parcel of land situated on Washington Street and adjacent to Hawes Brook for use for public playground purposes, and to raise by taxation and appropriate a sum of money to meet the expense of the rent reserved under said lease, and the cost of improvement of said parcel by the construction of a swimming pool, said sum to be used with a sum or sums of money to be allotted by the Federal Emergency Relief Administration, or take any other action in the matter.
Voted: To so authorize the Selectmen, acting as Playground Com- missioners, and that the sumn of $1,200 be raised by taxation, of which $200 be appropriated to meet the expense of the rent reserved under said lease.
Article 9. To see if the Town will vote to lease a parcel of land situated adjacent to land purchased for playground purposes from Jennie F. Fales and to raise by taxation and appropriate a sum of money to meet the expense of the rent reserved under said lease for use of such premises for constructing and maintaining a swimming pool, or take any other action in the matter.
