REPORT OF TRUSTEES OF PUBLIC LIBRARY.

The records of the Library Trustees for the past year, while containing no unusual or especially notable events, indicate a steadily increasing use and appreciation of the institution by our citizens. The Library has attained a high standard in every way, and it has been the duty of the Trustees to maintain it. We have endeavored by the careful use of means at our disposal, in the ac- quisition of the best books selected from the lists of new publica- tions, by the maintenance and renewal of standard works and by supplying our Reading Room with a liberal assortment of the best current periodicals, to do this.

The care of our beautiful and dignified Library building and grounds has received our best attention, that externally the institu- tion may indicate the value in which learning and intelligence are held in this town.

Reference to the Librarian's statistics shows a steady increase in the Library's circulation. A comparison of last year's figures with those of five years ago shows an increased circulation of some 3,000 volumes, or 60 per cent. With our present advantages and facili- ties a notable increase is assured, and to this end the Trustees will spare no effort.

The Annual Report of the Librarian is herewith submitted.

ARTHUR G. BENNETT, Chairman. A. WAYLAND CUTTING, Secretary. FRANCIS SHAW. LESTER R. GERALD .. ALFRED A. CARTER.
