bond placed with a fidelity or guarantee company and appropriate a sum of money to pay for the same.


Article 9. To see if the Town will authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to bor- row money after January 1, 1925, in anticipation of the revenue of 1925.


Article 10. To see how much money the Town will appropriate for the use of the Tree Warden to care for the shade trees of the Town.


Article 11. To see if the Town will vote to accept the provisions of Chapter 81 of the General Laws and make an appropriation therefor.


Article 12. To see if the Town will indemnify the Commonwealth of Massachusetts against any and all claims for land, grade and drainage damages which may be caused by or result from the laying out, construction or reconstruction of any State Highway in the Town during the present year, and will authorize the Board of Selectmen to sign an indemnity agreement in behalf of the Town, or take any action with respect thereto.


Article 13. 'To see if the Town will vote to apprapriate the sum of $150.00 for the payment of land damages on Lincoln Ave.


Article 14. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of $550.00 or any other sum to complete the laying of Water Mains on Lincoln Ave.


Article 15. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of $450.00 or any other sum to connect the Water Mains of Plainville with those of North Attleboro at the Town Line on West St.


Article 16. To see if the Town will vote to have a plate made of the Town and to appropriate money for the same.


Article 17. To see if the Town will vote to make an appropriation to provide new quarters for Town Offices and determine how the same shall be raised, or act in any manner relative thereto.


Article 18. To see if the Town will vote to make an appropriation for the purchase of additional Road Build- ing Machinery and determine how the same shall be raised, or act in any manner relative thereto.

Article 19. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate the sum of $1500.00 to be used to improve and rebuild School St., between Spring and George, or do or act in any manner relative thereto.


Article 21. Petiton-To see if the Town will raise or appropriate the sum of one thousand dollars to be used to continue permanent Sidewalks on East Bacon St., or do or act in any manner relative thereto.


Article 22. To see if the Town will appoint a Com- mittee to look into the advisability of a Building to be used for a Fire Station, Town Offices and Public Library and to recommend a site for same.


Article 23. To choose any committee, to hear the report of any committee and act thereon.


Hereof fail not to. make due return of this Warrant with your doings thereon to the Town Clerk, in con- formity with the Public Statutes, at or before the time of said meeting.

Proceedings of the Twentieth Annual Town Meeting


Town Hall, Plainville, Mass., March 3, 1924.


Pursuant to the above warrant the Twentieth Annual Town Meeting was held in the Town Hall, it being the 1st Monday of March, A. D. 1924.


The meeting was called to order by the Town Clerk, reading the Warrant and return thereon.


Article 1. Election of Moderator. Unanimously voted that Fred W. Northup cast one ballot bearing the name of Hosmer F. Keeney for Moderator. Meta A. Schubert, acting as Teller, the ballot was cast and Mr. Keeney was declared elected.


Article 3. Nnanimously voted, on motion by Rufus King, "That the reports of the Selectmen and other Town Officers be accepted, as printed."


Article 4. Unanimously voted, on motio by M. M. Rines, "To postpone action on all Articles, in the War- rant, that call for appropriations, to an adjourned meet- ing to be held in the Town Hall, this evening at 8 o'clock."

Article 6. Free use of the Town Hall. Unanimously voted, "That free use of Town Hall" be granted to :

Article 9. Unanimously voted on motion by E. W. Pink. "That the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to borrow money from time to time, in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning Jan. 1, 1925, and to issue a note or notes therefor payable within one year, any debt or debts incurred under this vote to be paid from the revenue of said financial year."


Article 23. Unanimously voted, on motion by E. W. Pisk, "That a committee of 3 be appointed to interview the Union Light and Power Co., to see if rates for lights can be reduced."

Unanimously voted, on motion of T. E. A. Fuller, "That a committee of five be appointed to bring in nominations for Advisory or Financial Committee to the adjourned meeting this evening."

At 9:30 o'clock A. M. the polls were declared open.

At 10 o'clock A. M. voted a recess be taken.

At 1.55 P. M., unanimously voted to commence the count of ballots, the ballot box registering 176 ballots cast therein.


At 3.55 P. M .; unanimously voted to close the polls, ballot box indicating 183 ballots cast therein, 183 ballots were cast, and 183 names were checked upon the check- lists used.

Article 5, Sec. 1. Support of school unanimously voted on motion by F. O. Corbin, $18,700.00 be raised and ap- propriated for teachers' wages, care and fuel the cur- rent year.


Article 5, Sec. 2. School books and supplies. Motion by W. M. Fuller that $1,050.00 be appropriated for school books and supplies was lost, vote being doubted and standing vote taken, M. M. Rines acting as Teller, re- sulted in 86 voting in the affirmative and 28 in the negative. Motion by G. W. Wood, voted $950.00 for school books and supplies the current year.


Article 5, Sec. 3. School incidentals. Voted $1225.00, on motion by W. White, be appropriated for school inci- dentals the current year.


Article 5, Sec. 4. School Physician. Voted $100.00 be appropriated for School Physician.


Article 5, Sec. 5. Superintendent of Schools. Motion by F. O. Corbin, unanimously voted $620.00 be appropri- ated for Superintendent of Schools.

Article 5, Sec. 9. Payment of salaries. Motion by E. W. Pink, unanimously voted $1700.00 be appropriated for the payment of salaries the current year.


Article 5, Sec. 10. Current and incidental expenses. Motion by E. W. Pink, unanimously voted $3500.00 be appropriated for current and incidental expenses the current year.


Article 5, Sec. 11. For the support of the poor and Soldiers' relief. Motion by H. D. Kriegel, unanimously voted $2,000.00 be appropriated for support of poor and soldiers' relief the current year.


There being no objection, Article 11 was now taken up. Sylvester Smith making the motion, it was unanimously voted: "That this Town accept the provisions of Sec- tions 26, 27, 28 and 29 of Chapter 81, of the General Laws, and that the Selectmen be instructed to make necessary application to the Division of Highways."


Article 20 was now taken up, there being no objection. Geo. W. Wood moves to lay on the table, motion lost. Motion by A. L. Crowley, unanimously voted $1500.00 be appropriated for the repair of School street, between Spring and George streets.


Article 11 and Sec. 12 of Article 5 were now taken up together. Motion by W. E. Barden: "That the sum of $6,200.00 be appropriated for the repair of Highways the current year and that $700.00 of this be used for repair of walks, amended by C. H. Peasley that $200.00 of amount for walks be used for repair of walk on west side of South street, beginning at Cobb's Garage and running North." The amendment was unanimously voted. It was then unanimously voted: "That the sum of $6,200.00 be raised and appropriated for the repair of highways, in this Town, the current year and that $700.00 of this sum be used for the repair of walks."


Article 5, Sec. 13. State and Military Aid. On motion by E. W. Pink, unanimously voted the sum of $700.00 be appropriated for State and Military Aid the current year.

Article 5, Sec. 14. Memorial Day. On motion by W. M. Fuller, unanimously voted $100.00 for Memorial Day and this sum be placed in the hands of the Quartermaster of Geo. H. Maintien Post, No. 133, G. A. R.


Article 5, Sec. 15. Payment of interest. On motion by J. J. Eiden, it was unanimously voted the sum of $1,400.00 plus receipts be appropriated for the payment of interest the current year.


Article 5, Sec. 16. Fire Department. On motion by Chief R. F. Barton, unanimously voted the sum of $2,000.00 be appropriated for use of the Fire Depart- ment the current year.


Article 5, Sec. 17. Street Lighting. On motion by E. W. Pink, unanimously voted the sum of $2,000.00 for lighting the streets the current year.


Article 5, Sec. 18. Water Department. On motion by H. B. Thompson, unanimously voted the sum of $450 00 plus receipts for incidentals in Water Department the current year. On motion by H. B. Thompson, unanimous- ly voted the sum $3,000.00 be appripriated for pumping water the current year.


Article 15. On motion of H. B. Thompson it was unani- mously voted to appropriate the sum of $450.00 to con- nect the water mains of Plainville and North Attleboro at the town line on West Bacon street.


Article 14. On motion by H. B. Thompson it was unani- mously voted to approprite the sum of $550.00 to com- plete the laying of water mains on Lincoln Ave.


AArticle 5, Sec. 19, and Article 21 were now taken up to- gether. Motion by M. G. Day, "That $1,000.00 be appro- priated for laying of additional permanent sidewalks on East Bacon street under the Betterment Act," was amended by Sylvester Smith that the sum be $1,000.00 plus the receipts from abuttors. Amendment being ac- cepted by Mr. Day, it was unanimously voted to appro- priate the sum of $1,000.00 plus receipts to continue permanent sidewalk on East Bacon street.


Article 5, Sec. 20. Board of Health. On motion by F. W. Pink, unanimously voted $200.00 be appropriated for use of the Board of Health.

Article 7. Motion by W. E. Barden, unanimously voted $200.00 be paid to the Collector of Taxes for salary, this sum to be paid from salary account, the Town to pay all necessary postage and stationary, all fees and fines to be paid to the Town Treasurer.


Motion by H. E. Thompson voted that the Collector of Taxes use same method of collecting taxes as in the past year.


Article 8. On motion by W. E. Barden, unanimously voted to have the surety of the Collector of Taxes and other Town Officers, bonds placed with a Fidelity or Guarantee Company and to pay for the same from the current and incidental account of the Selectmen.


Article 10. On motion by F. E. Whiting it was voted to appropriate the sum of $1.00 for the use of the Tree Warden. The vote being doubted, a standing vote was taken which resulted in 29 affirmative and 16 in the negative. Motion carried.


Article 12. Motion by E. W. Pink, unanimously voted to lay Article 12 on the table.


Article 13. Motion by J. J. Eiden, unanimously voted the sum of $150.00 for land damages on Lincoln Ave.


Article 16. Motion by E. W. Pink, it was unanimously voted to lay Ariticle 16 on the table.


Article 17. M. M. Rines, reporting for the committee on new quarters, and giving a very clear report.


On motion by H. B. Thompson it was voted to lay Article 17 on the table.


Article 18. On motion by E .W. Pink it was voted to lay Ariticle 18 on the table.


Article 19. On motion by G. W. Wood, it was voted to lay Article 19 on the table.


Article 22. Motion by F. E. Whiting to lay o nthe table being lost and decision being doubted, a standing vote. resulted in 46 voting in the affirmative and 86 in the negative. Motion by H. E. Thompson, "That a committee of five be appointed, to consist of Chairman of the Selectmen, Chairman of the Library Trustees, Chief of the Fire Department and two other citizens, to look into site and new quarters to be used for Fire Station, Town

Offices and Public Library was amended by R. F. Barton that the remaining two citizens on the committee be named from the floor, also amended by W. E. Barden to have the words Public Library and Town Offices stricken from the motion. Mr. Barden's amendment being lost, Mr. Bartons amendment was voted. The vote was then taken on the names of Rufus King and Walter E. Barden which were voted.


It was then voted, "That a committee of five, this committee to consist of Chairman of Selectmen, Chair- man of the Library, Chief of the Fire Department, Rufus King and Walter E. Barden, be appointed to look into the advisibility of a building to be used for a Fire Station, Town Offices, Public Library, and to recommend a site for the same." Vote being doubted, a standing vote was taken and 88 voted in the affirmative and 27 in the negative.


Article 23. Unanimously voted the Advisory or Finan- cial Committee for the current year consists of Chairman of the Selectmen, Town Treasurer, John J. Eiden, Alexander Emerson, Walter E. Barden, George Stol- worthy and Frank O. Patton.


Voted to adjourn at 10:30 o'clock P. M.

ELECTION OF ROAD COMMISSIONER


Plainville, Mass., March 10, 1924.


At a joint meeting of the Selectmen and Road Com- missioners, held in the Town Office, Archie L. Walden of Pleasant street, was duly elected Road Commissioner of Plainville, to fill vacancy coused from resignation of John W. Wite. This election held under the provisions of Sec. 11. Chapter 41 of the General Laws.

PROCEEDINGS AT PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY


Town Hall, Plainville, Mass., April 29, 1924.


The Presidential Primary was held in the Town Hall this day.


Meeting called to order by the Town Clerk reading the Warrant and return thereon at 12 o'clock noon.


The Ballot Clerk, Meta A. Schubert and Fred W. Northup and Tellers, Elizabeth I. Mullen and Robert J. MacNeill, were duly sworn to the faithful performance of their duties, and the polls were declared open at 12.15 o'clock P. M.

ANNUAL REPORT


Forty-five votes having been cast, and forty-five names were checked on the check-lists used, the ballot box registered forty-five votes cast therein.


There being Forty-one Republican and Four Demo- cratic votes cast.


A canvass of the votes was then commenced which re- sulted as follows, viz .:
