On motion of W. B. Hale it was voted that the name of Wm. B. Hale be erased from the jury list.


Voted : That Wm. D. Leahy's name be added to the list of jurors.


Voted : To accept the list of jurors.


Article 3. Voted : That the town build a suitable school building on the Memorial Hall lot (so-called). The total cost, in- cluding construction, furnishing, equipment and grading, shall not exceed $16,000.


Article 4. Voted : To lay this article on the table and take up article 3 again.

Under article 3 it was voted that the construction of the build- ing be left with the School Commitee.


Voted : To take up article 4.


Voted : That the Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized to borrow a sum not exceeding $16,000, and issue notes or bonds of the Town therefor, payable in lawful United States (gold coin) money, payable $2000 each year for eight years, with interest not exceeding 4 per cent. per annum, payable semi-annually.

During the voting the ballot box was, by the unanimous con- sent of the Selectmen and Town Clerk, opened twice for the pur- pose of taking out the ballots and sorting and counting the same. First at 1.30 P. M., when the box registered 918, and again at the close of the polls, 4.30 P. M., when the total number of ballots cast, according to the box, was 918. (The ballot box cancelled all ballots cast, but failed to register. )

The excess of the number recorded by the ballot clerks over the number registered by the ballot box, was due to the box fail- ing to register.


The tellers having canvassed the votes given in, and found the total number of ballots cast to be 1684, of which 2 were found defective, and so marked, the remainder having been sorted and counted, declaration thereof was made in open meeting, and re- corded as follows :

The business of the meeting being accomplished the returns were filled and signed by the Selectmen and countersigned by the Town Clerk, then sealed in open meeting and delivered to the Town Clerk, to be forwarded to the Secretary of the Common- wealth.


The ballots cast and the list of voters used at the polls and by the ballot clerks, were then sealed up and endorsed by the Selectmen and a majority of the election officers. The ballots were then delivered into the custody of the Town Clerk and the check list retained by the Selectmen, in conformity with law in such cases made and provided. The unused ballots remaining, all soiled and cancelled and certified by the ballot clerks to be such, were secured in an envelope, sealed, and delivered to the Town Clerk, as provided by law.


At 11.30 P. M. it was voted to dissolve the warrant.

On the above date the Selectmen met in the Selectmen's room in Town Hall building, for the purpose of recounting the votes cast a the Nov. 6, 1894 (state election) for Representative to the General Court of Massachusetts.


Walter S. V. Cooke and Chas. W. Carroll acted in their own

behalf, and Thomas McCooey acted as representative for Michael Tuite.


Chas. W. Carroll and Thomas McCooey protested against proceeding with the recount, on the ground that the reasons given were not sufficient for a recount, and also against the time of filing the petition.


The Selectmen proceeded with the recount, which resulted as follows :


On block No. 9, Michael Tuite lost one vote. Blanks gained one.


On block No. 15, Chas. W. Carroll lost one vote. Walter S. V. Cooke gained one vote.


On block No. 24, Chas. W. Carroll lost one vote. Blanks gained one vote.


On block No. 31, Michael Tuite lost one vote. Horace C. Adams gained one vote.


On block No. 33, Michael Tuite lost one vote. Fred E. Pettengill gained one vote.

In compliance with section 198 of chapter 417 of the acts of 1893, we, the undersigned, Clerks of the Towns of Mendon, Mil- ford, Hopedale and Blackstone, said towns comprising the eleventh Worcester Representative district, have met at the Town Clerk's room in said Town of Mendon, and examined and compared the returns of votes cast in each of said Towns for two Representa- tives to the General Court, to be holden in Boston on the first Wednesday of January next.


Said returns were made to us as by law required, and were given in at legal meetings held in said Towns for that purpose on the sixth day of November, A. D. 1894, and were for the follow- ing persons, namely :
