REPORT OF BOARD OF HEALTH.

During the past year Scarlatina and Diphtheria have been more than usually prevalent in many of the larger towns and cities of the State, and Duxbury has had several cases. In all, eleven cases of Scarlatina, one of Diphtheria and one of measles have been reported. All, however, have been of rather a mild nature, and no deaths have occurred.

During the past year the Board has taken up the practice of placarding houses where contagious diseases exist, and only removing the placard when the disease is at an end and the house has been properly disinfected. In this way, some- times much danger of spreading the contagion can be pre- vented, and the Board would respectfully request the cordial support of the townspeople in promptly reporting (as required by State law) all suspected cases of contagious disease to this Board, that suitable means may be taken to prevent the spread of such diseases.

During the year the Board has ordered the abating of several nuisances ; vaults, cesspools, etc., ordered cleaned.

During the summer a number of seals and various other dead animals were washed ashore in the bay and ordered buried.

N. K. NOYES, SAMUEL P. SOULE, HENRY H. LEWIS, Board of Health.

TO THE CITIZENS OF DUXBURY.

Gentlemen :-

At your wish, as expressed by vote, I have served you for twenty-one years continuously as Selectman, Assessor, and Overseer of the Poor, and now, looking at the subject in all its bearings, am satisfied that it is time for me to decline further service, and in doing so wish to say that during this long service (although perhaps I may have sometimes failed in judgment,) it has been my constant care to serve you hon- estly, faithfully, and to the best of my ability. I have endeavored to do my whole duty without fear or favor.

Sincerely thanking you for the confidence you have reposed in me, also for the uniform kindness which every one with whom I have met has accorded me, I remain,

Truly yours, SAMUEL P. SOULE.

DUXBURY, Feb. 1st., 1895.
