TOWN OF SAUGUS ANNUAL TOWN MEETING MARCH 10, 1937


The meeting was called to order by Herbert P. Mason, Moderator, at 8:10 P. M.


The salute to the flag was given.


All Town Meeting Members not previously sworn in were qualified.


By unanimous consent the reading of the warrant was waived.

John J. Bucchiere at this time offered a resolution which was unanimously adopted at 8:26 P. M., as follows:


Whereas;


Our present Congressman William P. Connery, Jr., has called for a survey to be made within the Town of Saugus, for the erection of a new Central Post office building by the Federal Post Office Department, and whereas the success or failure of this request is dependent upon the report made by the Federal Postal Inspectors, we, therefore, members of this Town meeting do resolve, that it be the sense of this meeting that the Federal Post Office Department build a new Central Post Office in the Town of Saugus, Massachusetts, copies of these resolutions be sent to Congressman William P. Connery, Jr., Postmaster General James A. Farley, U. S. Senators David I. Walsh and Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., Gov. Charles F. Voted : That the town authorize the School Commit- tee to make application for a P. W. A. grant for the purpose of remodeling, enlarging, renovating and constructing addi- tions to the present High School plant, including the taking of any necessary lands. 9:15 P. M.

Voted: That the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is, authorized to borrow for ordi- nary maintenance expenses of the Town, and for payment of Revenue loans, the sum of One Hundred Thousand Dol- lars ($100,000) ; but in no event a sum in excess of the amount of tax titles taken or held by the Town, and to issue a note or notes of the Town therefor, all in accordance with the Provisions of Chapter 49 of the Acts of 1933, as most recent- ly amended by Chapter 281 of the Acts of 1936.
