The matter of learning to draw and paint calls into use many faculties : First, one has to think and judge in va- rious ways; of the size and shapes of the objects to be drawn; the placing on the paper, otherwise called composi- tion; this means training of the eye to see shapes and colors correctly, then the handling of materials gives facility to the hands.

If after all they have learned good taste, which is the ability to discriminate, in choosing the good from the bad; a good design from a poor one; the appreciation of a good

picture, to see beauty in the landscape and surroundings; a valuable thing has been acquired which will stand by them through life.

Respectfully submitted, HARRIET J. FORD.
