The attention of parents and others is called to the report off births, marriages and deaths. If any errors are discovered the town clerk should be notified, that they may be corrected. Blanks for making the return of births, marriages and deaths can be ob- tained of the town clerk. As custodian of the records of the town, I am pleased to say that they are in an excellent state of preservation, with the exception of the two volumes of Proprie- tors' records. They should be attended to at once ; the paper is quite brittle, in many places the ink has faded badly, and the binding of the second volume is very poor. The value of our town records cannot be computed. There are few towns in the state that can show an almost unbroken chain of records for 228 years. Ours are complete during that time, with the exception of the period from 1675 to 1680, when the town was destroyed and abandoned during King Phillip's war. I feel that it is for the in- terest of all to do what is required for their preservation.
Respectfully submitted,
HORACE C. ADAMS,
Town Clerk.

FOURTEENTH ANNUAL REPORT OF THE
TRUSTEES OF THE TAFT PUBLIC LIBRARY.
The Trustees of the Taft Public Library respectfully submit the following report.
The Library the past year has continued to be a source of en- tertainment and instruction. By the Librarian's report, submitted herewith, it will be seen that in 1894 the patronage of the Library increased about 10 per cent. over that of 1893. The books were examined Feb. 8, current, and the Library re-opened Feb. 9. The books were all accounted for, but the condition was not in all cases satisfactory. In families where there are many young children, greater care in the use of the books should be taken.
Attention is called to the fact that the books in the Library can be consulted by our citizens at any time when the Library is open, and at all other times by arrangement with the Librarian; and also to the following rule which the Trustees have felt called upon to pass. viz :
That no new book shall be kept out more than one week by any patron of the Library, until the popular demand for it has ceased, and said books shall be designated by a green label, which may be changed, and the book put under former rules at the dis- cretion of the Librarian.
Four copies of the Annals of Mendon have been sold the past year and three exchanged for histories.
The thanks of the citizens are tendered to all who have con- tributed books, magazines or literature of any kind to the Library the past year.
The Trustees recommend the appropriation of one hundred and seventy-five dollars for the use of the Library for the ensuing year.
JULIUS A. GEORGE, HORACE C. ADAMS, ERWIN A. SNOW, HENRY W. GASKILL,
Trustees Taft Public Library.
