SEVENTEENTH ANNUAL REPORT OF THE
TRUSTEES OF THE TAFT PUBLIC LIBRARY.
The trustees submit the following report : The board reor- ganized April 17, 1897 They have but little to add to the in- formation furnished by the report of the librarian, which follows. The annual examination of the books was made Feb. 8, current, and the books were all accounted for, and found in satisfactory condition. The library was reopened Feb. 12. The trustees have been so fortunate as to secure the services of Mrs. Sara F. Towne, as Librarian for another year. It is the practice of the trustees to keep only a small balance in the hands of their Treasurer ; the unusual amount so held at the time of making this report, is to pay for binding books, etc., that were in the hands of the binder at that time.
During the past year three copies of the Annals of Mendon have been sold and one copy exchanged for a History of Clinton, Mass.
The thanks of our citizens are tendered to all who have con- tributed books, magazines or literature of any kind to the library during the past year.
The Trustees have put off the furnishing of additional shelf room, until it seems impossible to do so any longer. During the ensuing year some provision of the kind must be made.
The Trustees recommend the appropriation of two hundred dollars for the use of the library the ensuing year.
JULIUS A. GEORGE, HORACE C. ADAMS, HENRY W. GASKILL, LIBERTY FREEMAN, ELMER E. SHERMAN,
Trustees of Taft Public Library.
