Annual Town Meeting
FEBRUARY 28, 1948
Meeting called to order by the Moderator George W. Porter, at 1:05 P. M. A quorum declared present, the call of the warrant was read by the Town Clerk, the reading of the Articles being waived, and under
Article 1. William H. Lester and James W. Cesan were chosen fence viewers.
William S. Halladay and George H. Reed were chosen field drivers.
Article 2. Voted to accept the reports of the Town Officers as listed in the Annual Town Report, errors and omissions excepted.
Article 3. Voted that the care of Public Welfare be left in the hands of the Board of Public Welfare for the ensuing year.
Article 4. Voted to appropriate the sum of $300.00 for the proper observance of Memorial Day. The sum to be expended under the direction of the American Legion.
Article 5. Voted to appropriate the sum of $100.00 for Foreclosures of Tax Titles.
Article 6. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $600.00 for the payment of a proper charge of an Insurance Company for acting as surety on the official bond of its officers.
Article 7. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $1,300.00 for the Liability Insurance of its employees.
Article 8. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $3,150.00 for employment of a District Nurse and ex- penses of the Department. Voted to raise and appro-

priate the sum of $500.00 for a part time Doctor, and $1,000.00 for a part time nurse.
Article 9. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $200.00 for enforcement of the Dog Law.
Article 10. Voted to appropriate the sum of $233.80 for bills contracted in various departments in 1947 and not previously presented, same to be taken from the Excess and Deficiency Fund.
Article 11. Voted to authorize the Town Treasurer with the approval of the Board of Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1948 and to issue a note or notes therefor payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44 of the General Laws.
Article 12. Voted to transfer the sum of $2,500.00 from the Road Machinery Fund, and to raise and appro- priate the sum of $3,000.00 for the purchase of a new Highway Truck.
Article 13. Voted to transfer the sum of $5,000 from the Overlay Reserve to the Reserve Fund.
Article 14. Voted that the sum of $1,200.00 be raised and appropriated to meet the Town's share of the cost of Chapter 90 Highway Maintenance and that in addition, the sum of $2,400 be transferred from unappro- priated available funds in the Treasury to meet the State's and County's share of the cost of the work, the reimburse- ments from the State and County to be restored upon their receipt to unappropriated available funds in the Treasury.
Article 15. Voted that the sum of $6,000 be raised and appropriated to meet the Town's share of the cost of Chapter 90 highway Construction of Suffield Street, and that in addition, the sum of $18,000.00 be transferred from the unappropriated available funds to the Treasury to meet the State's and County's share of the cost of the work, the reimbursements from the State and County

to be restored upon their receipt to unappropriated avail- able funds in the Treasury.
Article 16. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $100 to be expended in the Town of Agawam by the Hampden County Trustees for aid to Agriculture in accordance with the provisions of the laws of the Com- monwealth.
Article 17. Voted that the salary and compensation of all elective officers of the Town as provided in Section 108 of Chapter 41, General Laws, as amended, effective from January 1, 1948 be set as follows :
