To see if the Town will make an appro- priation under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, for the original construction of public ways in the Town, the laying out of which is accepted at this meeting, including land damages and the cost of pavement and side-walks laid at the time of said construction ; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relating there- to.


Article 19. To see if the Town will authorize the acquisition by purchase, eminent domain or otherwise, of any land, easements or rights therein, including an ease-

ment or easements in land adjoining the location of any or all public ways, the laying out of which is accepted at this meeting, consisting of a right to have the land of the location protected by having the surface of such adjoining land slope from the boundary of the location; make an appropriation for such acquisition; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relating thereto.


Article 20. To see if the Town will make an appro- priation or appropriations to pay debts, obligations and/or expenses incurred prior to January 1, 1933 and more par- ticularly will appropriate the sum of eighty-five hundred (8500) dollars or any other sum in connection with snow and ice removal; the sum of eight thousand, eight hun- dred eight and 99/100 (8808.99) dollars or any other sum in connection with the Public Welfare Deparment for Wel- fare Aid; the sum of three thousand, seventy-five and 90/100 (3,075.90) dollars or any other sum in connection with Soldiers' Relief; or take any action relating to all or any of the foregoing.


Article 21. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of two thousand, one hundred forty-seven and 87/100 (2,147.87) dollars or any other sum to defray the ex- pense of setting stone bounds as shown upon various Board of Survey plans heretofore approved by the Board of Survey, the said amount having been deposited with the Town Treasurer, as required by the Board of Surve Rules and Regulations ; or take any other action relating to such stone bounds or such deposits.


Article 22. To see if the Town will make an appro- priation for repairing leaks in the walls and/or roof of the new High School building; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any ac- tion relating thereto.

Article 23. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of ten thousand dollars, (10,000) or any other sum, to be expended under the direction of the Board of Select- men on Town work for employment of the poor; deter- mine in what manner the money shall be raised and ex- pended; or take any action relating thereto.

series of Musical Concerts to be given at various periods of the summer months in selected districts of the Town. That this money be expended under the direction of the Board of Selectmen in conjunction with a Board to be appointed by them.

Article 28. To see if the Town will accept the gift of the late Dexter Rawson Fay contained in his trust agreement with N. Emmons Paine dated December 6, 1922, and in his will in the following language: " I give and bequeath the sum of two thousand (2000) dollars to the Town of Arlington in memory of my father, Walcott Fay, and my mother Sarah Rawson Fay; said sum to be held by the Town of Arlington as a perpetual trust fund and the income only to be used for the purchase of books for the Arlington Public Library situated in said Town, save that said Town, as trustee, is requested and author- ized out of the first income accruing from said fund to place in said library some memorial of this benefaction in the name of my father and mother"; will so place in said library such memorial; or will take any action in any way relating to said gift, agreement or will.


Article 29. To see if the Town will accept, as a gift from the "George Washington Memorial Committee", the permanent Christmas Tree, now planted on the Cemetery Department lot at the junction of Broadway and Massa- chusetts Avenue.

Article 30. To see if the Town will accept the gift of the Arlington Girl Scouts of the Scion of the Washing- ton Elm, now located upon the Town House Grounds ; make an appropriation to pay for the transportation and setting of said tree, determine in what manner the money

Article 31. To see if the Town will accept the gift by the Misses Ida and Caira Robbins, provided for in the will of the late Josephine Robbins Wallace, of the clock, now located in the Hearing Room, in the Robbins Memorial Town Hall; or take any other action relating thereto.


Article 32. To see if the Town will accept the gift by the Atlantic National Bank of Boston, Mass., of the portrait of the late Nathan Robbins, now located in the Hearing Room, in the Robbins Memorial Town Hall; or take any other action relating thereto.


Article 33. To see if the Town will authorize the Board of Public Works to sell, convey or otherwise dispose of any or all of the three (3) horses owned by the Town and now under the control of said Board; or take any action relating thereto.

To see if the town will sell, convey, or otherwise dispose of all or any of the buildings on the land of the Town, known as the old town yard, on Sum- mer Street and all or any of the equipment on said land; make an appropriation or appropriations for the purposes aforesaid; and for grading the said land; determine in

Article 36. To see if the Town will rescind its vote passed on April 22, 1889, relating to perpetual care of lots in the town cemetery, which reads as follows: "Voted that the Town will receive a sum not less than two hund- red dollars on each lot in its cemetery, in consideration of which the town will take perpetual care of said lot from the income of said sum, and that non-residents be re- quired to deposit said amount at the time of purchase"; will amend Article II of its by-laws relating to "Care of Burial Grounds and Lots" by altering Section 1 thereof so as to read as follows: Section 1. The Town will accept and forever hold in trust, money or securities which may hereafter be deposited with the Town Treasurer for the perpetual care, preservation, improvement, or embellish- ment of any public or private burial place, or any graves therein, agreeably to the provisions of the statutes of the Commonwealth; and will so accept for such care, preser- vation, improvement, or embellishment of any lot therein containing two hundred or more square feet, such sum not less than two hundred dollars ($200) as the board of cemetery commissioners may determine, and of any lot therein containing less than two hundred (200) square feet, the sum of one dollar ($1.00) for each square foot of such lot.


Article 37. To see if the Town will rescind its vote passed on April 3,1929 under Article 42 of the warrant for the annual meeting of that year whereby the Town voted that the Selectmen be authorized and empowered on behalf of the Town to purchase or take in fee by emi- nent domain or otherwise acquire for the purpose of con- structing thereon a school building, a certain parcel of

land containing about two and three quarters (2 3/4) acres bounded by land of Jacob H. Adamian, of J. Howe Il Crosby, of John Gomatos et al, of Ella J. Langley, and of Charles E. Cooke, shown on a plan on file in the office of the town engineer entitled "Plan of Land, Arlington, Mass. Owned by John Goma- tos et al, Proposed to be taken for school site, Scale 1" = 40', Feb. 1929, J. M. Keane, Town Engineer ", and ap- propriated for the purpose the sum of three thousand (3000) dollars; or take any action relating to said vote, appropriation or land.


Article 38. To see if the town by vote of the Town Meeting Members, at the regular town meeting, will in- struct the Selectmen, or other officials of the Town of Arlington, to give preference to residents of the Town, in all construction work and improvements to be made, for and by the town, and especially to the unemployed, who are receiving welfare assistance, unless otherwise restricted by law.

Article 39. To see if the Town will further change the map entitled "Town of Arlington, Massachusetts, Zoning Map, prepared under the direction of the Zoning Committee by John P. Fox, Consultant on Zoning, March, 1924" which map showing the districts of classes was adopted at the adjourned meeting held May 15, 1924, of the Annual Town Meeting of 1924, by including in the fourth or Business District, the land on the southerly side of Summer Street between Washington Street and Brattle Street to a depth of One hundred (100) feet ex- cept that wherever such depth of One hundred (100) feet would extend beyond the Northerly line of Brattle Street only the actual depth between the southerly line of Summer Street and the Northerly line of Brattle Street
