There have been fourteen accident claims against the Town this year. Two have been settled as authorized by the Select- men, four have brought suit, and eight are in abeyance. Of the previous year's claims and suits, eight were abandoned by the claimants without suit and one at the time it was reached for trial, and one was settled as authorized by the Selectmen. There have been no verdicts against the Town.
There was one contract claim against the Town which was compromised by the plaintiff accepting the original offer made by the Town in accordance with the contract price, no extra amount being paid. There were seven claims against third persons for damages to property of the Town, and one held over from previous years. Seven of these have been collected in full and one is pending.
The claim of Pauline B. Crosby for damages for the taking of her land for school purposes was compromised as authorized by the Town Meeting and the Board of Selectmen.
