In connection with the work of the Department of Corpora- tions and Taxation, a list of Town Officials was forwarded to the Director of Accounts.
ANNUAL TOWN MEETING, MARCH 21, 1955
Pursuant to the Warrant of the Selectmen served according to law upon the inhabitants of the Town of Arlington by a constable of said Town, notices having been sent by mail by the Town Clerk at least seven days before the day of the meeting to the town meeting members elected and qualified to act in town meetings in Arlington under the provisions of Chapter 43A of the General Laws,

as amended, and published in the local newspapers, as required by the Town's By-Laws, the town meeting members met in the Town Hall, in said Town, on Monday, March 21, 1955, at eight o'clock in the evening. The Warrant calling the meeting was the notice sent by mail by the Town Clerk.
Lists of the duly qualified town meeting members were used at the entrances of the meeting place and were in charge of Philip T. Robinson and James E. Sweeney. The lists contained the names of two hundred fifty-three (253) town meeting members qualified to participate in and vote in town meetings in Arlington.
The check lists filed with the Town Clerk at the close of the meeting by the checkers showed that two hundred fourteen (214) members and eight (8) members-at-large attended the meeting.
Philip H. Burt, stenographer, was sworn by the Town Clerk to impartially and correctly report the proceedings of the meeting to the best of his ability.
The Moderator, Harold E. Magnuson, declaring a quorum pres- ent, called the meeting to order at 8 o'clock P. M.
The meeting was opened with the singing of "The Star Spangled Banner" by the assembly, accompanied by Mr. Augustus Mazzocca, trumpeter, and Mr. Walter E. Russell, pianist, both of the School Department, and prayer offered by Rev. Walter B. Ohman, Minister of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
The town meeting members who had not been previously sworn were thereupon sworn by the Moderator.
Mr. Thomas R. Rawson, Vice Chairman of the Board of Se- lectmen, presented the following resolution on the recent passing of Mr. Ernest W. Davis, which was adopted by a unanimous standing vote:
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS: Ernest W. Davis will walk no more on old, familiar scenes, and
WHEREAS: A lot of people still cannot bring themselves to say goodbye, and
WHEREAS: Memory has its own way of defying these mortal de- partures holding onto the people and things it loves, and WHEREAS: Ernest W. Davis was a real friend to many, a deep respected citizen to countless others, and
WHEREAS: He was an even tempered man and a fine fellow, in the best sense of that designation, and
WHEREAS: He was never inspired by desire for personal reward or public acclaim, and
WHEREAS: The story of the nice things he did so quietly, effec- tively and often, has ended and will not be told, and WHEREAS: His civic history in Arlington is so long and so well understood by all who knew him, that it establishes a lasting place in the affectionate remembrance of the community he served so long and well,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Board of Selectmen, in regular meeting assembled, does hereby cause to be recorded in the permanent records of the Town of Arlington, this resolution, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the name of Ernest W. Davis, as a Finance Committee Chairman, as a Chairman of a Board of Selectmen, as a Town Moderator, be permanently inscribed in the official records of the Town as one of the Arlington Greats in Civic Duty, and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED: That a copy of this resolution, properly inscribed, be delivered by the Selectmen to the widow as a memento of the high regard Ernest W. Davis was held by all who knew him; and the same resolution be presented to the Town Meeting for its concurral.

Article 4. (Assessment for County Hospital. )
VOTED: (Unanimoulsy) That payment to the County of Middlesex of amounts assessed upon or otherwise payable by the Town under Warrant issued by the County Commissioners in ac- cordance with Chapter 500, Section 1, of the Acts of 1943: (A) the Town's share of the maintenance, operation and repair of Middlesex County Tuberculosis Hospital during the last preceding calendar year, including interest on temporary notes issued there- for, in accordance with sections of Chapter 111 of the General Laws applicable thereto; (B) the Town's share of any and all other ex- penses in connection with said hospital, including expenses under section 25G (6) (a) of Chapter 32 of the General Laws inserted by Chapter 400 of the Acts of 1936; be and hereby is authorized, ratified and confirmed.
There being no further business under Article 4, the Moderator declared it disposed of.
Article 5. (Treasurer; Power to Borrow.)
VOTED: (Unanimously) That the Treasurer, with the ap- proval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to borrow money on and after January 1, 1956, in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1956, and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes that may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws and any amendments thereof; any debt or debts incurred under this vote to be paid from the revenue of the financial year beginning Janu- ary 1, 1956.
There being no further business under Article 5, the Moderator declared it disposed of.
Article 6. (Claims or Charges of Symmes Arlington Hos- pital. )
VOTED : (Unanimously) That the sum of eighteen thou- sand eight hundred thirteen and 37/100 (18,813.37) dollars be and hereby is appropriated to pay claims and charges of Symmes Ar- lington Hospital, including such claims and charges for aid, relief

or care furnished prior to January 1, 1955, to persons falling into distress and standing in need of immediate relief; said sum to be raised by general tax and expended under the direction of the Town Manager.

Article 7. (Additional Appropriation - Addition to Town Hall. )
VOTED: (Unanimously) That the additional sum of nine- teen thousand (19,000) dollars be and hereby is appropriated for the purpose of payment of architectural fees and for equipment and furnishings and to be added to that appropriated under Article 54 of the 1946 Annual Town Meeting for the purpose of erecting an addition or additions to the present Robbins Memorial Town Hall and the alteration or reconstruction of the present interior of said Robbins Memorial Town Hall to provide for the rearrangement of Town Departmental quarters; said sum to be raised by general tax and expended under the direction of the Town Manager.
There being no further business under Article 7, the Moderator declared it disposed of.
Article 8. (Amendment of Town By-Laws - Classification Plan. )
VOTED: (Unanimously) That the Classification Plan, known as Schedule A, under Table I and Table II, of Article 7C, of the By-Laws be and hereby is amended by deleting the following classi- fications:
