Article 3. (Acceptance of Legislative Act - Pensions. )
VOTED: That the provisions of Chapter 670 of the Acts of 1955 of the General Court, entitled "An act relative to increasing the amounts of pensions, retirement allowances and annuities payable to certain former public employees," and which was ap- proved August 11, 1955, be and hereby are accepted.

Article 4. (Additional Appropriation - Town Hall. )
VOTED : That the additional sum of five thousand five hund- red ($5500) dollars be and hereby is appropriated for equipment and furnishings, and for the alteration and reconstruction of the present interior of Robbins Memorial Town Hall to provide for the rearrangement of Town Departmental Headquarters; said sum to be taken from available funds in the Treasury and expended under the direction of the Town Manager.
There being no further business under Article 4, the Modera- tor declared it disposed of.
Article 5. (Petition to the Legislature, Re: Disposition of Land. )
VOTED : (Unanimously) That the Board of Selectmen be and hereby is authorized and empowered on behalf of the Town to petition the General Court for authority to sell, convey or otherwise dispose of a certain parcel of land hereinafter described, which is now part of the public parks within the Town, to the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Boston for the use of St. Agnes Catholic Church and School of Arlington. If said authority is granted by the General Court, the Board of Selectmen, acting on behalf of the Town, is hereby authorized and directed to sell said land hereinafter described to the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Boston for the use of St. Agnes Catholic Church and School of Arlington for the sum of twelve thousand and fourteen and 24/100 (12,014.24) dollars subject to the following terms and conditions:
1) In the event said sale is not completed within one year from the date when offered for sale by the Board of Select- men, said land shall revert to the control of the Park Depart- ment of the Town of Arlington;
2) Said land shall be used by St. Agnes Catholic Church and School of Arlington for High School purposes only and said school shall be built within five (5) years from the date of transfer of the land, or title to same shall revert to the

Town as part of its public parks upon reimbursement to the grantee of the purchase price of said land;
3) The Town of Arlington shall not be held liable for any damages suffered by the grantee in the use of the land; and 4) Said land shall be conveyed subject to reservation by the Town of an easement over same in the location of existing storm drain structures now located on the property including Mill Brook culvert for the repair and maintenance of its storm drain system.

GREETING :
In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Arlington, qualified to vote in elections, to meet at the polling places desginated for the several precincts in said Town on
MONDAY, THE FIFTH DAY OF MARCH, 1956 at seven o'clock in the forenoon, to act on the follow- ing Articles, namely :
Article 1. To elect by ballot the following Town Officers: A Moderator for three years; one Selectman for three years; one Assessor for three years; one member of the School Committee for one year; three members of the School Committee for three years; one member of the Arlington Housing Authority for five years; also, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 43A of the General Laws, in each precinct the number of Town Meeting Members as hereinafter specified: in Precinct 1, one such mem- ber for one year and five such members for three years; in Precinct 2, six such members for three years; in Precinct 3, three such members for two years and four such members for three years; in Precinct 4, one such member for two years and six such members for three years; in Precinct 5, six such members for three years; in Precinct 6, one such member for one year, one such member for two years and five such members for three years; in Pre- cinct 7, one such member for two years and five such members for three years; in Precinct 8, one such member for one year and six such members for three years; in Precinct 9, one such member for one year and six such members for three years; in Precinct 10, two such members for one year, two such members for two years and six such members for three years; in Precinct 11, one such

For these purposes, the polls will be opened at seven o'clock A.M. and remain open until eight o'clock P.M., at each of the poll- ing places designated, viz: Precinct One, in the East Arlington Branch Library, entrance on Massachusetts Avenue; Precincts Two and Four, in the Hardy School Building, entrance on Lake Street; Precincts Three and Five, in the Junior High School Building East; Precinct 3, entrance on Tufts Street; Precinct 5, entrance on Fost- er Street; Precincts Six and Eight, in the Town Hall; Precincts Seven and Nine, in the Russell School Building; Precinct Seven, entrance on Medford Street; Precinct Nine, entrance on Mystic Street; Precincts 10A and 12A, in the Cutter School Building, entrance on Robbins Road; Precincts 10B and 12B, in the Brackett School Building, entrance on Eastern Avenue; Precinct Eleven, in the Highland Hose House, entrance on Massachusetts Avenue; Precinct Thirteen, in the Peirce School Building, entrance on Park Avenue North, Heights; Precinct Fourteen A, Park Avenue Con- gregational Church, entrance on Paul Revere Road; Precinct Fourteen B, in the Brackett School Building, entrance on Fayette Street.
You are, also, required to notify and warn the said inhabitants to meet at the Town Hall, in said Town on Monday, the nine- teenth day of March, 1956, at eight o'clock in the evening, at which time and place the following articles are to be acted upon and determined exclusively by town meeting members, in accord- ance with, and subject to, the referenda provided for by Chapter 43A of the General Laws.
Article 2. To choose and appoint all other usual Town officers not hereinbefore mentioned, in such manner as the Town may determine.

To hear and act on the reports of the committee under vote of the Town passed March 24, 1944, on Advanced Programming and Budgeting; of the committee under vote of the Town passed March 15, 1946, to investigate, consider and recom- miend alterations, additions or other changes to the Building Code; of the committee under vote of the Town passed March 28, 1951, to investigate and consider the matter of a Fire Prevention Code for the town of Arlington; of the committee under vote of the Town passed March 26, 1952, to investigate, consider and make recommendations for the purchase or taking by eminent domain, or otherwise, of a suitable site and for the construction of a new building or reconstruction of an existing building to be used for garaging Town-owned vehicles; of the committee under vote of

the Town passed March 31, 1952, to investigate and consider the Pennsylvania Real Estate Tax Plan; of the committee under votes of the Town passed March 20, 1953, and March 24, 1954, to investigate, consider and make recommendations to the Town relative to the construction and operation of refuse disposal in- cinerators; of the Joint Planning Committee under vote of the Town passed March 23, 1953; of the committee under vote of the Town passed March 15, 1954, to investigate and study the ade- quacy of the present school buildings within the Town and the future locations of new school buildings; of the committee under vote of the Town passed March 22, 1954, to procure plans and estimates for the construction of a school building in the area of North Union Street; of the committee under vote of the Town passed March 24, 1954, to procure plans and estimates for the construction of a school building in the area of Florence Avenue, George and Renfrew Streets; of The Parmenter School Addition Committee under vote of the Town passed March 24, 1954; of the committee under vote of the Town passed March 24, 1954, to investigate, study and consider various entrances at the Arlington Heights Reservoir Beach and Playground; of the committee under vote of the Town passed March 24, 1954, to investigate, consider and make recommendations as to the swimming conditions at the Arlington Heights Reservoir Beach; of the Pierce School Play- ground Improvement Committee under vote of the Town passed March 25, 1955; of the Arlington Brotherhood Committee under vote of the Town passed March 28, 1955; of the committee under vote of the Town passed March 28, 1955, to investigate, study, consider and make recommendations of amendments to Chapter 503 of the Acts of 1952, entitled "An Act Establishing a Town Manager Form of Government for the Town of Arlington"; of the committee under vote of the Town passed March 28, 1955, to study, investigate, consider and make recommendations for the revision of the Town's By-Laws; of the committee under vote of the Town passed March 28, 1955, to investigate, study, consider and make recommendations of amendments to the Town's By- Laws as deemed necessary in regard to the acquatic activities and allied conditions on Spy Pond; and of other Town Boards and officers and of the Finance and other committees heretofore ap- Dinted.
Article 4. To see if the Town will authorize, ratify and con- firm the payment to the County of Middlesex of amounts assessed upon or otherwise payable by the Town under Warrant issued by the County Commissioners in accordance with Chapter 500, Sec- tion 1, of the Acts of 1943, for: (A) the Town's share of the maintenance, operation and repair of Middlesex County Tuber- culosis Hospital during the last preceding calendar year, including interest on temporary notes issued therefor in accordance with Sections of Chapter 111 of the General Laws applicable thereto; (B) the Town's share of any and all other expenses in connection with said Hospital including expenses under Section 25G (6) (a) of Chapter 32 of the General Laws, inserted by Chapter 400 of the Acts of 1936; or take any action relating to said Hospital or any other thing therein mentioned.
Article 5. To see if the Town will authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money

from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1957, and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes that may be given for a period of less than one year in accord- ance with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws.
Article 6. To see if the Town will make an appropriation or appropriations to pay the claims or charges of Symmes Arlington Hospital including such claims and charges for aid, relief or care furnished prior to January 1, 1956, to persons falling into distress and standing in need of immediate relief; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relating thereto.
Article 7. To see if the Town will make an appropriation of a sum or sums of money to be expended under the direction of the Town Manager, said appropriation to be for the purpose of payment of architectural fees and for equipment and furnishings and to be added to that appropriated under Article 54 of the 1946 Annual Town Meeting for the purpose of erecting an addition or additions to the present Robbins Memorial Town Hall and the al- teration or reconstruction of the present interior of said Robbins Memorial Town Hall to provide for the rearrangement of Town Departmental quarters; determine in what manner the money shall be raised; or take any action relating to any or all of the fore- going.
Article 8. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate a sum or sums of money to be expended under the direction of the Town Manager for the purpose of replacing the two present steam boilers in the existing Boiler Room of the Robbins Town Hall with two boilers of sufficient capacity to properly heat the addition. Replace present oil burners, construct new brick bases, combustion chambers and new fresh air intakes. Re-vamp the immediate boiler-room piping and valves and other work relating to the Heat- ing System; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended or take any action relating thereto.
