Article 39. (Acceptance of Legislative Act - Levy of Special Assessment for Laying Water Pipes in Public and Private Ways.)
VOTED: That the provisions of Chapter 332 of the Acts of 1955 of the General Court, entitled "AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE LEVY OF SPECIAL ASSESSMENTS TO MEET THE COST OF LAYING WATER PIPES IN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE WAYS," as amended by Chapter 639 of the Acts of 1955, be and hereby are accepted.
There being no further business under Article 39, the Moderator declared it disposed of.
Article 40. (Sidewalks and Edgestones.)
VOTED: That the sum of twenty five thousand (25,000) dollars be and hereby is appropriated for the construction of permanent sidewalks and for the installing of edgestones in the year 1956; said sum to be raised by general tax and expended under the direction of the Town Manager.
There being no further business under Article 40, the Moderator declared it disposed of.
Article 41. (Reconstruction of Streets.)
VOTED: (Unanimously) That the sum of twenty four thousand five hundred (24,500) dollars be and hereby is appropriated for the relocation, alteration and widening, construction of, specific repairs upon and improvement of all or any parts of Massachusetts Avenue, between Cambridge and Lexington, within the Town, as now exist- ing or hereafter relocated, altered or widened, including land damages, if any, under the provisions of law authorizing the assess- ment of betterments or otherwise; said appropriation to be used with any sum or sums which may be allotted by the Commonwealth or County of Middlesex, or both, for such purpose or purposes; said sum to be raised by general tax and expended under the direction of the Town Manager.

Article 42. (Acceptance of Gift-M.T.A. Rails-Massachusetts Avenue.)
VOTED: (Unanimously) That the Town of Arlington does accept a gift to the Town from the Metropolitan Transit Authority of the tracks and track structures consisting of rails, rail fastenings, copper bonds, ties, ballast, track drains and connecting pipes and the paving between the rail of each track, including concrete paving base, in that part of the public way in the Town known as Massa- chusetts Avenue, from the Cambridge City Line to the Arlington Heights Terminal of the Metropolitan Transit Authority.

ADJOURNED ANNUAL TOWN MEETING, APRIL 2, 1956
Pursuant to the vote of adjournment of March 26, 1956, and written notices sent by mail by the Town Clerk, the town meeting members met in the Town Hall on Monday evening, April 2, 1956, to act upon the remaining articles set forth in the Warrant for the Annual Town Meeting.
Lists of the duly qualified town meeting members were used at the entrances of the meeting place and were in charge of Philip T. Robinson and James E. Sweeney. The lists contained the names of two hundred fifty-two (252) town meeting members.
The check lists filed with the Town Clerk at the close of the meeting showed that one hundred ninety-one (191) members and eight (8) members-at-large attended the meeting.
The Moderator, Lawrence E. Corcoran, declaring a quorum present, called the meeting to order at 8:05 o'clock P.M.
The meeting was opened with the singing of "The Star Spangled Banner" by the assembly, accompanied by Mr. Augustus Mazzocca and Mr. Walter E. Russell of the School Department, and prayer offered by Rev. Charles A. McCarthy, Curate at St. James' Church.
On motion of Selectman Greeley, it was
VOTED: That if all the business of the meeting as set forth in the Warrant is not disposed of at this session, when the meeting adjourns, it adjourn to Wednesday evening, April 4, 1956, at 8 o'clock.
The Moderator declared Article 44 to be the first item of business before the meeting.

Article 57. (Easements in Land.)
VOTED: ( Unanimously ) That the Board of Selectmen be and hereby is authorized and empowered on behalf of the Town, to pur- chase or take by eminent domain or otherwise acquire, easements in land adjoining the location of ways, the laying out of which is accepted at this meeting, consisting of the right to have the land of said location protected by having the surface of such adjoining land slope from the boundaries of said locations; that for this pur- pose the sum of eight hundred (800) dollars be and hereby is appro- priated; said sum to be raised by general tax and expended under the direction of the Town Manager.
There being no further business under Article 57, the Moderator declared it disposed of.
Article 58. (Committee - Re 150th Anniversary.)
VOTED: That the Moderator be and hereby is authorized and empowered to appoint a committee of five (5) citizens to investigate, consider and make recommendations for the proper observance of the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Incorporation of the Town of Arlington; said committee to report at the next special Town Meeting, if any, but not later than the Annual Town Meeting of 1957; and that the sum of two hundred (200) dollars be and hereby is appropriated for the use of said committee, said sum to be raised by general tax.

Article 59. (Quarters for Organizations in Old Town Hall.)
VOTED: (Unanimously ) That the Moderator be and hereby is authorized and empowered to appoint a committee of five (5) com- posed of an architect or engineer, a real estate operator, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and two other citizens who shall be registered voters of the town, to investigate, consider and make recommendations for the acquisition of suitable quarters for all orga- nizations now occupying the Old Town Hall; said committee to report at the next Special Town Meeting, if any, but not later than the Annual Town Meeting of 1957; and that the sum of one hundred (100) dollars be and hereby is appropriated for the use of said committee, said.sum to be raised by general tax.
