Special Town meeting, Sept. 19, 1955


a special town meeting of the voters of Boxford was held in the Harry L. Cole School on Monday, Sept. 19, 1955. The meeting was called to order at 8 P.M. by William J. Greenler, Jr., the moderator and a short prayer was offered by Rev. Charles L. Atkins. The following action was taken :


art. 1


Voted to appropriate from Surplus Revenue the sum of 2,400 to meet the State and County allotments for highways, said money when reimbursed to be credited to Surplus Revenue.

Voted to appropriate the sum of 504.98 refunded from insurance to repair boiler damage at the aaron Wood School.

Voted to appropriate the sum of 151. 93 refunded from insurance to the expended for the repair of the stage curtain at the Harry J. Cole Schol,


art. 4 Voted to accept the sum of 192.50 from the Parent- Teachers association and appropriate the said sum for the purchase of kitchen equipment for the Harry L. Cole School ..


Voted to transfer the sum of 26.95 from the Memorial Day appropriation to the more House account.

Voted that the town adopt the following by - law : No person shall operate upon any pond, lake, or other waterway within the town, a motor boat having an outboard or inboard motor

Voted to amend Subsection 4 of Section XI of the zoning by-law , by striking out one acre and substituting two acres, and striking out two hundred feet and substituting two hundred and fifty feet, by striking out " said house not to occupy more than twenty per cent of the area " and by adding the provision : lots laid out by recorded deed or conveyance or shown on any duly recorded plan, or plan which has been approved by the Planning Board, complying with by law provisions if any applicable at the time of such recording or approval , may be used so as to read : land laid out after the adoption of these bylaws shall provide for each develling of the following minimum lot areas and dimensions : for a one-family dwelling, not under two acres and at least two hundred and fifty feet frontage except lots laid out by recorded deed or Conveyance or shown on any duly recorded plan, or plan which has been approved by the Planning Board , complying with by-law provisions of any applicable at the time of such recording or approval may be used. Passed by hand vote 94 yes, 13 no.


Resolved: that the meeting declare itself in favor of transferring the postal facilities of the East Boxford Post Office to a R, F. D. route out of the Boxford Post Office with its members drawn from the E. Boxford Post Office and the George town and Topsfield R. F. D Routes, with Gerald Brisbais, The present C. The voters of Buxford met at the Harry Lee Cole School on March 5, 1956, for Their annual town meeting with William J. Greenberg, Jr., presiding as moderator. Rev. Charles atkins opened the meeting with a short prayer. The action taken was as follows.

art. 1. Voted to accept reports of the Town Officer and Committees as printed in the Town Report. Prof. Franklin Roberts gave a report on the work of the Regional High School Committee in its negotiations with Middleton and Topsfield .


art. 2. Voted to adopt the budget as printed .


art. 3 Voted to appropriate the sum of 500 for the maintenance of Road Machinery, said amount to be transferred from the Road Machinery Fund.


art. 4 Voted to appropriate 2,000.00 for the Reserve Fund, said amount to be transferred from Overlay Reserve.


art. 5 Voted to authorize the Town Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen , to borrow money from time to time, in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1956 , and to issue a note ar notes therefor, paying within one year, and to renew any with or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17 , Chap. 44 of the General Laws

The polls were opened at 12:00 noon by the Moderator, William & Greenler, Ja. The ballot box was opened, shown to be empty, then closed and locked. The custody of the key was given to the Constable Walter H. Gamans the polls closed at 8:00 pm. The ballot box then registered 165. The check les't showed the number of ballots cast to be 165. The ballots were then counted, publicly declared, and recorded as follows: moderator for one year
