COPY OF PRINCIPAL VOTES

ANNUAL MEETING

February 7, 1927

Elected :

Fred F. Dill, Moderator.

Voted :

To waive the reading of the reports of the Town Offi- cers and to hear the report of the committees.

William B. Higgins reported for the committee on Town Dumps as follows:

In So. Eastham land has been purchased of Edward E. Knowles for that section of the Town and dump located. In Eastham center a change in the proposed location of dump had been made from the so-called Patterson property co land of Alfred L. Oliver on the west side of the Town road in a northerly direction from the home of the said Oliver now under construction. Mr. Oliver has agreed to sell one acre of land to the Town for the sum of $50.00 for that pur- pose. It was voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $50. 00 for the purchase of said land for the said dump.

Owing to the inability of the committee to locate the owner of the land in No. Eastham which is now being used for a dump they were unable to take definite action relative to locating a permanent dump at that point at this time.

Mrs. Sarah A. Smith reported for the committee rela- tive to naming and listing the Town's roads and streets.

63

The committee has made investigation and find there are twenty-seven roads for which signs will be needed and ask- ed for one more member (preferably a carpenter) to be added to that committee, whereupon Harvey T. Moore was appointed, the said committee then reported the estimated cost to the Town of signs, posts and labor for placing the signs would approximate $200.00. The Town then voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $200.00 for this purpose and the committee was authorized to carry out its recom- mendations. Fred F. Dill reported for the committee on Town landings. Owing to the inability of committee to come to-terms with the various land-owners it seems im- possible to obtain said landings by this committee.

We recommend that a committee be appointed with au- thority to purchase these sections now under considerations for Town landings.

Voted to give this committee now standing full power and authority to purchase land as stated above. Mr. Wil- liam B. Steele in open meeting offered to give land to the Town for a road 33 feet wide from the Town road to Cook's Brook, so-called, for a Town landing, provided the Town will lay out a road to said point.

Joseph W. Ryder reported for the committee relating to opening a channel from the Salt Pond to Salt Pond Bay so- called.

The committee upon investigation found the cost would, in their opinion be prohibitive in so far as the work involv- ed would require the services of a dredger and the figure reported by Freeman C. Hatch a member of the committee as the lowest he could obtain for the work was $20,000.00.

64

Voted that the Supervisor of Soldiers' and Sailors' lots with the aid of the Selectmen confer with the Department of Public Works to take steps which will stop the driving of vehicles over the World War Memorial grounds. Report of the Town Officers accepted.
