REPORT OF THE Tree Warden

Again this past summer the United States Department of Agriculture field scouts collected samples of many elm trees in Wilbraham which were suspected of having the Dutch Elm Disease. This year, the same as last, two elm trees were found to have the Dutch Elm Disease, making a total of four elms removed for having this dreaded tree disease.

Twenty new Rock Maples have been purchased for road- side planting. These trees are being planted to replace old trees removed or in areas lacking shade trees. During the past year thirteen large, old and dying trees were removed. Most of these trees, being large and in a dangerous condition, were removed by the Northern Tree Expert Company.

For the past six years the Elm trees have been sprayed to control the Elm Leaf Beetle and the Elm Bark Beetle, carrier of the Dutch Elm Disease.

Respectfully submitted, ERNEST M. HAYN

Visiting Nurse Association

The program for 1947 was similar to that followed in 1946.

The Well Child Conference, held the week of April 28- May 2nd was well attended. Dr. MacLean gave each child a thorough physical examination, and with the mother's per- mission, gave a small-pox vaccination to many of the group.

Mrs. Ray Palmer, Dental Hygenist, examined their teeth for dental defects, and Miss Marjorie Morrison of the Spring- field Nutrition Service Bureau discussed the nutritional needs of each child with his parents. Miss Marion McLenahan, Physical Therapist for the Springfield Visiting Nurse Associa- tion spent a day at the Conference for consultation on posture, feet, proper shoes etc.

Volunteers provided transportation as needed and assisted with the Conference routine.

Follow-up visits were made by the nurse in her visiting program, and the defects were followed up by a member of the Child Welfare Committee.

We feel that this year's Conference has had very satis- factory results.
