Well Child Clinic and Visiting Nurse Association Report
The entire Nursing and Health Program for the year of 1949 has proved very successful. The Well Child Conference was held the week of May 2nd through 6th. Dr. Hazel Richards and Miss Dorothy McCall, R.N., conducted the Clinic.
Mrs. Ray Palmer and Mrs. Bernice Chapin, Dental Hygienists, examined the children's teeth for dental defects, and Nutritionists Mrs. Norman Fountain of the Western Massachusetts Electric Com- pany and Miss Margaret Parsons (now married) of the Hampden County Improvement League, discussed dietary and nutritional prob- lems with the parents, who proved to be most interested and coopera- tive in these respects.
Miss Luella I. Young, R.N., of the Hampden County Tuberculosis and Public Health Association gave Patch tests to all the children. There were no positive reactors.
As in the past, volunteers provided the transportation as needed, and assisted with the Conference routine. Mrs. Carl Nelson, Chair- man of the Child Welfare Committee, worked diligently arranging the schedules and transportation needed. To her we owe many thanks for her willing cooperation and assistance in making the Conference a success.

WELL CHILD CLINIC AND VIS. NURSE REP. (Cont.)
The demand for nursing visits has shown a large increase, espe- cially in the orthopedic field.
406 cases were given services with a total of 1339 visits made to the homes for nursing and maternity care. 874 visits were also made in Infant and Child Health Supervision.
4234 days, including 41/2 days in the Conference, were spent in working with the parents of infant and preschool children. In making these visits the parents were found to be interested and anxious to cooperate with the recommendations rendered for the better health of their children.
I wish to again thank Miss Helen Boden and Mrs. Carl Nelson and her committee, for their never-ending assistance and willing cooperation in making the Community Health Program for 1949 a success.
Respectfully submitted,
The Visiting Nurse Association of Springfield DOROTHY MCCALL, R.N.
