RESOLVE OF LEGISLATURE


IN RELATION TO THE EARLY YORK DEEDS.


Resolved, That the Maine Genealogical Society, agreeing to supervise the copying, attesting, editing, indexing and publishing of volume fourteen of the public records of this state in the register of deeds for York county, in the same manner as the thirteen preceding volumes already published, except that, on account of its increased size, it is not re- quired to be leaded, nor to have the tabular index, the governor and council shall purchase for the state four hun- dred and fifty copies of said volume at five dollars per volume; and the state librarian shall cause one copy of said volume to be placed in cach registry of deeds in this state ; and the remaining copies to be distributed or exchanged at the dis- oretion of said librarian.

To in New England Cordwainer sendeth Greeting Sargent Know ve that sª William Grow & Joanna his Wife for & in Consideration of One Hundred & Twenty Pounds current Money to him in Hand well & truly paid by Diamond Sargent of York Tailor & the Receipt whereof the sd William Grow doth acknowledge himself therewith tully paid well satisfied & contented & doth hereby acquit exonerate & discharge the so Diamond Sargent of all & every Part & Payment thereof have given granted bargain- ed sold alienated enfeoffed & conveyed & do by these Pres- ents give grant sell convey & fully freely & absolutely make over & confirm unto the sd Diamond Sargent & his Heirs and assigns for ever To say one Traet or Parcel or Tenement of Land lying & being within the Township of York being the Quantity of Thirty Aeres upon the South West Side of York River & is that Traet of Land I the sd William Grow bought of Samuel Donnell as by Deed on Record may ap- pear lying & joyning to Rogers Mill Pond so called & is bounded as followeth viz Beginning at an old dry Hemlock Tree standing upon the North or North West Side of sd Mill Pond marked on Four Sides & runs from thence bound- ed by sº Pond as the usnal Flowing thereof is with Water nearest upon a West & by South Course to a White Ash Tree marked on Four Sides & runs from thenee upon a North & by West Point Twelve Pole to a Bass Tree marked on Four Sides & from thence North East Seventeen Poles to a White Ash Tree & from thenee West North West One Hundred Poles & from thence runs North East & by East Twenty one Poles & from thence East & by South nearest One Hundred & Seventy Poles to a small Hemlock Tree marked on Four Sides & runs from thenee South & by East Sixteen Poles to the dry Hemlock Tree First Bounds stand- ing by s Mill-Pond however roputed to be bonnd Together with with all the Right Title Priviledges Advantages there- unto belonging fully Rights Profits or Priviledges that may hereafter redound into the same unto him the sª Diamond Sargent & to his Heirs & Assigns for ever To have and to hold

To land Trader sendeth Greeting Know ve that the sa Compton James Brickell for & in [2] Consideration of the Sum of Twenty Five Pounds to him in Hand well & truly paid by John Compton of Boston in the County of Suffolk & Province aforest Mariner hath bargained & sold & by these Presents doth freely fully & absolutely grant bargain sell aliene enfeoffe convey & confirm unto the st John Compton his Heirs & Assigns for ever The One Half Part of One Eighth Part of several Tracts & Parcels of Land situate lying & being in Casco Bay in the County of York & Province aforest which were the Estate of David Phippen formerly of Casco Bay aforest Deceased the One Fourth Part of which descends to Anna Groen Wife of John Green of Salem in the County of Essex & Province aforest as she is a Daughter & Heir of the sa David Phippen Deed viz The One Half Part of One Eighth Part of a certain Tract or Par- cel of Land formerly sold by Wavaad Button & Nannaad- conit Indian Sagamores to Francis Neal George Felt & den- kins Williams & assigned & conveyed to their so Father David Phippen which Tract of Land is bounded as follow- eth viz On the North East Side of Pesminskitt River To be- gin where Mr George Munjoys Land bought of sa Sagamores endeth upon the same side of the River and so to run down by the Side of the River to the Falls & so along by the Side of the River within Four Score Poles of John Wake- field alias Wakelies Dwelling House or Place where sª House formerly stood, & six Miles up into the Country Together with proportionable Part of the Wood & Timber & Privi- ledge of the River & Falls & all other Profits & Priviledges thereto belonging Also the One Half Part of One Eighth Part of another Tract of Land in Casco Bay aforest contain- ing Sixty Acres more or less which was formerly granted by the Town of Falmouth to one Philip Lewes & by his Heirs conveyed to the sd David Phippen Deed Said Land is bound- ed Westerly by the Land laid out to Jon" Orris Southerly

The Deposition of Hannah Hobbs aged Seventy Nine Years testifieth & saith that upwards of Sixty


Hannah Hobbs Years agon Mr Roger Plaisted was in Posses- Test sion of a certain Saw Mill on Asacubedoc Falls otherwise called the Great Works in Berwick by Improving s0 Mill in Sawing & in Planting & linprov- ing a considerable Quantity of Land adjoyning & that the sd Plaisted was put into the Possession of the Premises by Mr Eliakim Hutchinson of Boston & after the Decease of the sd Plaisted the Premises aforest remained in the Possession of several of the sd Plaisteds Sons & One Thomas Doubty till William Spencer Deed & Walter Allen was in the Im- provement of the Mill & Premisses aforest who improved the same for some Time all which the aforesd the aforesa Persons improved as aforesd from & under the afores' Hut- chinson (till about Twenty Years 'gon) John Plaisted & John Ilill Esqrs purchased the same of the aforest Hutchin- son as I have been informed & has been in the Improvement of the sanie by themselves & Elisha Plaisted Esgr & Mrs Mary Hill till this Day, & further saith not
