May 3, 1874 - A group of Baptist met and elected S. N. Goldsby Moderator and Abram Onderdonk Clerk, forming the Baptist Church.


May 18, 1874 - Frank Bassett and Alice Scruby were married at Wheeling.


June 7, 1877 - Ira Jackson Anderson married Alice B. Harvey.


1879 - Mr. William Devis opened a mercantile business for two years. after his arrival in Wheeling in 1872 from Dunkirk, N.Y., he then leased the Bower House for 3 yrs. and now is farming south of Wheeling.


1880 ?- Dr. J. S. Gish marries Miss Mary Babb.


Feb. 29 1884 - Passing of Mr. Gage, husband of Mary Elizabeth (Swarts) Gage, who lived in Wheeling many years. She was born in Easton, Pa., Oct. 3, 1829 and married Simeon C. Gage in 1848. Children. Ella S. Hayden and Adelbert D. Gage, She came to Wheeling in 1856. (She married Henry Sheets in 1897 and lived in Wheeling many years. )


Jan. 5,1889 - Dr. W. A. Swope and Miss Estella Head were united in matrimony at Chillicothe last Tues evening. They will make Wheeling, Mo. their future home.


Sept.10,1889 - Mr. R. A. Tharp marries Miss Neva Platt at home of bride's parentso


Apr. 12, year- Mrs. Harvey Calloway, age 72, died April 12. She was unknown attended by Dr. J.P. March, with Dr. Morris of Eversonville, consultation doctor.


July 14, 1890 -A large group from Wheeling, went by train to the new fair grounds at Chillicothe for a picnic. They took. No. 20, a local freight home about 5 P.M. The whistle of an approaching train shoed that a collision was going to take place. Many hurried and jumped, but Mrs. G. Bu Roberts was crushed. She was born Nov. 18, 1850 and married Feb. 7, 1865. She leaves husband and 3


children. Burial at Wheeling Cemetery.


Dec. 31 - Henry Shiflett, 24 yrs. old, died of typhoid fever, was to have married Miss Roberts last month, but delayed because of sickness.


Jan. 30, 1891- Mrs. Charlotte Dickinson Peugh, age 50 dies of dropsy of the heart. She married Capt. Peter P. Peugh Feb. 23, 1870 soon after he came here to reside.


May 1891- Mr. James Bivens, head salesman for Mr. S.A. Stone sold the following Newman Organs in Wheeling area. May 5 - A. J. Brunk, Wheeling $105,00. May 19. Levi Willis Eversonville, $130.00 May 26, L. E. Collins, Wheeling $115.00.

June 27, 1891 - Miss Ida Coleman, 18 yr. old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Coleman died at her home in Wheeling. Death was due to an accident, she was watching a baseball game at Wheeling, with her hand resting against a fence, a foul ball crushed her hand resulting in blood poisoning and death. Funeral at Wheeling Christian Church. Burial at Wheeling Cemetery.


Sept. 1891 - The apple market is brisk here. Edgerton, Scruby and Wiley; Gould & Gould, Gregg and Fell are shipping as fast as they are brought in.


Dec. 1891 - Dec. 1891 (Wheeling Whispers) The new paper mill will soon be in operation. Charley Beckwith is building a house on his farm 12 miles north east of town.


Dec. 23, 1891 - Miss Nellie M. Morrison and Howard C. Mclain, both of Wheeling were issued marriage license.


Dec. 25, 1891 - Rev. M. Jones, M. E. Minister, married Miss Emma Walter- son and Mr. Fred Sorby. They will live in K.C.


Dec. 29, 1891 - Rev. M. Jones was presented a fine gold watch and chain by M.E. Congregation. Was a token of our high esteem. During a recent revival, about 40 were joined to the church.


Dec. 30, 1891 - The Rev. M. Jones, M. E. Minister married Miss Nettie Spooner and Mr. S. Timmons. They will live in Ohio.


Dec. 30, 1891 - Frightful railroad collision near here between two freight trains. Three persons killed and many cattle literally roasted alive. Edward Gilmore, one of those killed. Henry M. Hazen of Meadville, another.


1891 - Those attending the 46th birthday party of Mrs. H.S. Norman were W. J. Littrell and wife, H. Bird and wife, J. A. Wiley and wife, H. P. Scruby and wife, A. E. Norman and wife, E. Jones and wife, H. Mclain andwife, H. M. Morrison and wife, E. Scruby and wife, Wm. Scruby Sr., Warren Wait and wife, F. P. Baker and wife, Miss Lillie Carter, Minnie Parks.


1892 - Wheeling Whispers reports Mr. W. L. Middleton was in Chillicothe Tuesday afternoon and made extensive purchases for a new restaurant in Wheeling.


Jan. 1, 1892 - Dr. J. B. Freeman was fired upon from the heavy timber south of Wheeling. Said to suppress profess- ional evidence in a case before circuit court.


Feb. 25, 1892 - Miss Minnie Parks and Volney Howe were married in the home of H. S. Norman.

June 21, 1892 - Mrs. T. B. Slocum's barn about 1/2 mile west of Wheeling was struck by lightning and burned on the evening of June 21st, during a severe electrical storm.


July 21, 1892 - Miss Mary Whitebread and Mr. William V. Littrell of Wheeling township were married in residence of Dr. J.C. Gish of Chillicothe, by the Rev. M. L. Bibb, pastor of Baptist Church.


July 28, 1892 - The family of Mrs. M. N. Spooner of Wheeling received a dispatch last evening from K.C., that she is dying of cancer. Her family went up this morning.


July 29, 1892 - Mrs. Spooners age about 50, died Friday. Funeral M. E. Church, Rev. Sapp, conducting.


1892 - More Newman Bro. organs sold in Wheeling. J. D. Grant, $140.00, Moss Bros. $150.00, E. A. McQuillin $115.00, Wm. Brandt $115.00, Willis Clark $85.00.


Feb. 21, 1893 - Nellie Mclain died at the home of her parents Wm. H. and Sarah Mclain in Wheeling on the 21st day of Feb. 1893 of consumption, age 19 yrs. Wm. H. Mclain, her father and brother, J. E. Mclain are seriously ill.


Oct. 17, 1893 - Arthur Haynes married Bessie Ross.


Nov. 11, 1893 - Miss Minnie Campbell married John Cover, both of Wheeling at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Williams.


Dec. 14, 1893 - About 8 P.M., Josina Clem, wife of J. G. Clem of Wheeling, age 78 yrs., died of capillary bronchitis. She leaves her husband and four children, H. C. Clem, Mrs. S. Hawkins, Van P., and James Clem of Wheeling.


Dec. 19, 1893 - Tuesday, Carrie A. Seely died - beloved wife of Lester E. Seely. She was born 1857 and married Sept. 1871. She leaves a son, 17 year old Mort Seely. A baby girl head rests upon her mother's arm.


May 11, 1894 - Bodies of murdered Meeks family were found.


June 23, 1894 - Taylor Brothers captured in Ark.


Apr. 11, 1896 - Taylor Brothers escape Carrollton jail. Bill was


recaptured and was hanged April 30, at Carrollton.


July 11, 1894 - John Lawler, 70 yrs. old, died at his residence north of Wheeling of stomach trouble. He leaves a wife and family of grown children.


1895 - Miss Mary Goff marries James E. Adams at home of brides father, Mr. John Goff. Miss Cornie Clem was maid of honor and Mr. T. M. Collins was best man.

Mar. 27, 1895 - Miss Cornelia Clem and Mr. Tolbert Collins were married by Rev. Jeffreys of the M. E. Church.


May 29, 1895 - Judge Joseph Slagel died at the home of his son, Lee, in Wheeling, Mo. Of a family of 12 children, he was the youngest. He studied a time for the ministry. He came to Livingston County in 1839 and for 4 yrs. operated a general store at Cox's Mill on Medicine Creek, which he purchased and ran until 1860. He married 5 times. Jan. 27, 1832 to Catherine Long of Ohio, died July 6, 1841; Nov. 22, 1843, Catherine Stone, died Aug. 24, 1844; May 5, 1845 Sara Littlepage, died Sept. 1846; 1848, Miss Crawford - 1849, and 1869, Mrs. Lottie P. Ellis. His funeral was held at Wheeling Christian Church and burial at Slagel burying ground.


June 16, 1895 - Miss Alice Bradford of Richill Township and Arthur Avery of Wheeling Township, were married at Baptist Parsonage.


Dec. 15, 1895 - The six year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Moran died of diptheria.


Dec. 14, 1895 - Samuel J. Gish died - age 73, at the home of his son, Dr. James Gish.


Jan. 28, 1896 - Miss Mattie Turner of Sheldon, Iowa, marries John B. Norman of Wheeling Township .


1896 - The 5 yr. old son of Dick Chrisman and wife, living near Wheeling, was accidentally shot near Collier's Mill, about 5 o'clock by a son of Bill Wilson. He died about ll o'clock.


1896 - Harry Clem of Fort Scott, Kans., spent Decoration Day with his wife and children in Wheeling.


May 28, 1896 - Miss Cay Fredericks and R. E. Ishmael, both of Wheeling were married by Elder F. D. Pettit.


June 30, 1896 - Miss Elizabeth Kappus marries Joseph Smaltz at Leopolis Catholic Church.


July 4, 1896 - Mrs. S. A. Field was murdered by her husband, 22 miles Northeast of Wheeling. Mother, Mrs. Sarah Thomas, is positive daughter did not consent to the killing of herself and son. She and Fields had been married 6 yrs. last Oct. The murders and suicide took place in a pasture adjoining the house. The Field Family was staying with Mrs. Thomas and her son at the time, boy expressed concern, but mother said everything alright, but upon investigation at the foot of a little hill in pasture behind a log, were the three corpses. Mrs. Field was 32 yrs. old.

July 6, 1896 - Wheeling had a large 4th celebration with people for miles around gathering for political speeches and basket dinner. So much food was left, 75 or 80 people stayed over the next day.


July 20, 1896 - A thirty-four page booklet containing the "Ordinances of the Village of Wheeling", being printed by the "Wheeling Sun", will soon be distributed, There are twenty ordinances, with several sections under each that will go into effect and be in force on the 30th day of July, 1896, Frank Smiley, Clerk and G. B. Arnold, Chairman .


Sept. 2, 1896 - Miss Mary L. Ishmael and Albert Hidy were married.


Sept. 8, 1896 - Miss Jennie Brown and Mr. James Green, both of Wheel- ing, married at 4 o'clock Sunday by Rev. J. H. Skidmore. Mr. Green is connected with Scruby, Baker and Co.


Nov. 3, 1896 - Columbus C. England, 53 years, died at home 6 miles North of Wheeling at 10:30 P.M., with cancer of the stomach. He was born Nov. 28. 1843, near where he died. His father was from Tenn, and mother from Ohio. First wife was Miss L. F. Jones, married June 12, 1864 and had 3 children, one son, T. B. England, and 2 daughters, Married Miss C. A. Moore, Dec. 26, 1875 and had 3 daughters, Funeral held at Harmony Church close to his home and buried within one mile of his birth place.


Nov. 15, 1896 - F. R. Sheets and Mrs. M. E. Gage, past middle age, were married.


Dec. 20, 1896 - Arthur P. (Rufus) Botts, 24 yrs. of Meadville and Maggie B. Harlan age 24, of Wheeling, were married by Rev. J. F. Mesner of the M. E. Church. Floyd Botts, brother of groom married Georgie Goldman.


1897 ?- Miss Josephine Calvin and Walter Gish were married at the home of the brides parents, by Rev. J. E. Denham.


1897 ?- Wheeling lost one of her best citizens, when Dr. Freeman went away . Presently in Moberly. Left before Jan. 17, 1898.


1887 - Dr. W. W. Edgerton of Wheeling has purchased the Wiley Hirsh & Co. Stock of Groc. Hardware, queensware, etc., subleased the building occupied by them and will continue the business at the old stand.

1897 - Miss Emma Powers marries Mr. Paul Higgins at the home of the bride's parents, 4 miles north of Wheeling.

Jan. 3, 1897 - Miss Nellie Spooner and Robert H. Bailey were married at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. Steve Timmons Sunday. Mr. Bailey is one of Wheeling's business men. They were married by Rev. J. F. Mesner.


Jan. 12, 1897 - Death of John M. Davis of Wheeling. He came to Wheeling Feb. 1891. He married Mrs. Alice Boone Sept. 19, 1881 and leaves two children, Clarence, 13 yrs. old and Viola, 7 years old.


Jan. 20, 1897 - Miss Roxie Fredricks and Mr. Joe Walkup were married at the residence of the bride's parents by Elder M. L. Smith. 25 relatives and friends attended. The groom wore his most pleasant smile. There were many presents and a big supper.


Jan . 22, 1897 - William Bathgate passes. He was born in Scotland 57 years ago and came to America in 1867 and to Wheeling in 1868. His wife died in 1892.


Feb. 24, 1897 - In memory of Wm. J. Littrell, who departed this life, Wheeling Sun.


1897 - Marriage of Miss Una Carpenter and Mr. Chas. Higgins at 8:00 Wednesday.


Mar. 18, 1897 - Mrs. Susie Harris, 45 yrs. old, wife of W. B. Harris, died 3 miles south of Wheeling. She was the daughter of Elijah Harvey. Sister of Mrs. T. F. Spencer, Mrs. Geo. Gish and Mrs. F. J. Anderson, all of Wheeling and Elizabeth Botts of Meadville, Geo, W. and Elijah D. Harvey. Husband and 6 children survive her. Ser- vices were held at Wheeling Baptist Church.


Aug. 21, 1897 - Judge Samuel Forrester, 71 yrs. old, succumbs to a severe attack of stomach and kidney trouble Sat., at 2 o'clock. He was born in Glasgow, Ky,, in 1826, immigrated to Livingston Co., in 1856. First wife died in 1895. Funeral at home of brother-in-law, Geo. Gish. Burial at Macedonia Cemetery. He has been county Presiding Judge and Wheeling merchant.


Dec. 20, 1897 - Mrs. Mary J. Floss, 88 yrs. 8 months, 20 days, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Geo. Real. She had 4 children.

1898 ?- Mrs. Minnie Watson, age 25, wife of C. N. Watson, residing 7 miles southwest of Wheeling, died of pneu- monia after 4 day illness. Services were held at Wheeling Baptist Church, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


1898 - Mr. and Mrs. E. B, DeLematre left for Okla. Tuesday afternoon for a weeks visit with relatives. The lumber yard will be in the charge of Mr. Whitebread during their absence.


1898 - Ed McLain's new grocery store is enjoying real good trade, since he got in new quarters near the post- office and has ample room. His business is growing rapidly and he and his clerk, Mr. Brown, are kept busy early and late.


before 1898 ?- Marriage of Joseph L. Carlyle, son of Rev. Carlyle of Norville and Miss Lula Smith of Wheeling was quietly consumated.


Jan. 3, 1898 - Editor Chas. F. Dodds of Wheeling "Sun" attempted to shuffle off this mortal coil. His door was forced, where he was found in great pain. Dr. Swope was called who gave him medical relief for poisoning. He said he was a financial failure.


Jan. 5, 1898 - Miss Cora Ishmael and Louis I. P. Doty were wed at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Ishmael in Wheeling.


Jan. 5, 1898 - Miss Ethel Pearman of Linn Co. and Mr. Calvin Tracy of Wheeling were married at the bride's home.


Feb. 11, 1898 - Mrs. Virgil Botts, 25, dies at home, 3 miles east of Wheeling at 2 o'clock. Funeral was held at Wheeling Christian Church, conducted by Pastor D. S. Lyon. Burial in Wheeling Cemetery. Consumptive sufferer.


Feb. 20, 1898 - The Rev. J. T. Messner, pastor of the M. E. Church of Linneus married Prof. Alfred White and Miss Mattie Waydlick, Wedding took place at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Waydlick, 8 miles north- west of Wheeling. Jessie Dimitt provided the music. Miss Waydlick is sister of John, formerly principal of our schools.


Feb. 20, 1898 - Miss Laura Billingsly and Robert H. Chittick were married at the home of bride's father, Wm., six miles Northeast of Wheeling.


Feb. 21, 1898 - Miss Ada Lemon and Fred G. Hornicker were married in Chillicothe.

Feb. 22, 1898 - Geo. B. Dunn died at his home of consumption, age 61 yrs. (Grand Army of Republic). Services were held at Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Howard, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Mar. 8, 1898 - Miss Della Crawford and Mr. J. P. Roe, Jr., were mar- ried at the residence of the editor of the "Link" in Wheeling.


Mar. 15, 1898 - Mrs. S. J. Winterowd died at her home 4 miles northwest of Wheeling, after a long illness. Services were held at Wheeling Baptist Church. Burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Mar. 19, 1898 - Mrs. Switzer received a draft for $700.00 back-pension from Uncle Sam.


Mar. 19, 1898 - Cards are out announcing the marriage of Miss Minnie Lee Collins to Dr. L. P. Carlyle to be wed March 23.


Mar. 19, 1898 - James Constant delivered hogs to our city buyers Tues. Taggart and Nay.


Mar. 1898 - Dr. L. P. Carlyle and Miss Minnie L. Collins were married at Wheeling.


1898 - Reuben Richardson, who was hit by a train, died Sunday. His head and right arm were frightfully mangled and he never regained consciousness, but lived almost 24 hrs. He had been in south part of town delivering a load of wood to Elder Beggart and tried to cross ahead of a train, but engine hit front of wagon, one horse was killed.

2, 1898 - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Glore, 70 yrs. old, wife of E. O. Glore, died at her home in Wheeling, of cancer. Ser- vices were held at Wheeling Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Lyons, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.

May 28, 1898 - Roy Nay, a grandson of Uncle Loss Nay, died of stomach trouble. Burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


June 1, 1898 - Mr. Manly Mitchell and Mrs. Anna D. Ferry were united in Holy Bonds of Matrimony at the residence of the bride. Rev. Denham officiating.


July 6, 1898 - Miss Theo Thornburg and John Mace were married at the home of the bride's parents. Rev. Eliott of Chillico- the officiated. Mrs. H. P. Scruby played the Wedding March.


Aug. 3, 1898 - Miss Gertie M. Beaird and Oley E. Botts married at home of parents north of Wheeling.


Aug. 25, 1898 - Henry Nay and wife celebrated their 56 wedding anni- versary.


1898 - Wilbur Gish, local boy, has been employed to superin- tend the mechanical dept. of the "Link". He has been in printing business about 10 yrs.


1898 - Miss Ella M. Albertson marries Mr. Benjamin F. Fort, both of Wheeling.


1898 - George R. Dimitt and little son, Leslie, left for a few days visit with relatives in Paris, Ky., Monday. It is Mr. Dimitt's first visit to his old home for several years,


Nov. 8, 1898 - Mrs. Abbie Shaub, wife of Nathan Shaub, who lived 3 miles south of Wheeling, died Tues. She leaves husband and 3 month old baby. Services were held at Wheeling Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Howard. Burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Dec. 29, 1898 - Mrs. Kate Warren, wife of our esteemed citizen, J. D. Warren, passed away after an illness of five years.


1898 - Marriage of Miss Jennie Brown and Mr. James Green, both of Wheeling, occured at 7 o'clock Wed. evening, Rev. Pitts officiating. Mr. Green connected with the firm of Scruby, Baker and Co.


1898 ?- C. O. Wilson and Mrs. D. K. Bootz and Justice J. B. Moran, also married at Grandstand, with their beautiful nickel plated stove on a pedestal in the rear of the bridal party. Ceremony very, very short.


1898 ?- Wedding of B. V. Hughes and Miss Susie Brant came off on schedule at the fair grounds at Chillicothe, before a throng of people.

Oct .. 11, 1899 - Julia Ann (Gish) Lowry died at her home Northeast of Wheeling, age 72 yrs, 4 mo, 15 days, of chronic rheumatism, on the anniversary of her father's birth. She was married at the old Gish home in 1857 to A, M. Lowry. She leaves 8 children. Services conducted by Rev. Biggart. Burial in Ogan Cemetery.


Apr. 4, 1899 - Miss Elva Real and B. F. Hobbs were married at K.C. She is the daughter of Geo. Real.


July 24, 1899 - Henry Nay dies of old age. £ He was born in Marion Co., West Virginia, Feb. 22, 1822, He married Miss Elanore Hess, Aug. 25, 1842. Children, Mrs. Phoebe Belshe, wife of Jas., John, Mrs. Maliala Patterson, wife of William P., Jennie Watson, wife of H. A. Watson, F. D., J. E. , J. R., and A. E. Nay. He helped execute John Brown.


October 1899 - Charles Harvey and Miss Lola Botts were married in Meadville.


1899 ?- Virgil Botts and Ida Belle Littrell were married at Chillicothe, Tues. at 10 o'clock by Judge Umphalbaugh.


1899 - Miss Effie Paul of Eversonville and Frank L. Switzer of Wheeling, both are 19tyrs. old, are married.


Date unknown - Miss Florence Manley married William H. Raymond, both residing in the neighborhood of Harmony Post office of this city,


Jan. 7, 1900 - Mrs. Elva E. Thomas married J. B. Patrick, who is associated with several businesses. One night at the restaurant, the groom arrived with Elder Ritz and then it was seen a wedding was going to take place.


1900 - A. E. Norman was visiting relatives near Wheeling Sat. and Sun. Mr. Norman has disposed of his interest in the Jenkins Manufacturing Co. of Browning and will likely buy a farm and locate near Wheeling in the spring.


1900 ?- Tuesday night fire destroyed Henry Cornwells Blacksmith and wagon shop in the east part of town, near the Christian Church. He came from Bedford 15 yrs. ago. Loss was valued at, $2000.00 and insured for one-half. Cornwell was a good woodworker and Henry Ishmael ran an up-to-date machine and blacksmith department. Shop was best equipped shop in northwest Missouri.


1900 - J. E. Mclain sold his stock of groceries, queensware notions and dry goods to Messrs. Jack and Henry Buckner.

July 1, 1900 - Till Babb died Sunday at 8:20 A.M. of cancer - suffered intensely over a year. He died at the Railroad Hos- pital in Topeka. Son of Joseph and Mary who sleep in the Wheeling Cemetery. Born 1854 and grew to manhood in Wheeling. Buried in Hannibal, Mo.


1900 ?- The "Elite" saloon will close its doors in our city Nov. 8, at the expiration of the first 6 month license. It has been running nearly 6 months but on account of not receiving business sufficient to keep up expen ses, will close.

1900 - William P. Albertson born in Indianna in 1838. In 1864 he married Miss Rosa H. Schwartz, having & chil- dren. Services were held in Wheeling Christian Church, conducted by Elder Ellett, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


1900 ?- Gay White, Luther Boone are attending school at Chillicothe Normal School. Miss Leona Mclain and Miss Florence Smith are attending Drake U. at Des Moines, Iowa.

1900 - Miss Ora Belle Cooper and Mr. James Walby were married at the home of the bride's parents 14 miles Southwest of Wheeling.


Mr. Dorra Kimmis and Miss Jennie Head of north of Wheeling were married at Methodist Parsonage at Meadville, Wed. afternoon at 4 o'clock by Rev. J. S. Wilson.


1901 - Bart Fort, son of John Fort, broke his arm Friday morning while playing black-man and fell on his left arm at school.


1901 - Elizabeth (Dreon) Warren was born in Ky. in 1824 in a few months she would have been 77 yrs. old. She came to No. in 1854 and married Thomas Warren Aug. 7, 1855. They had 4 children, two survive - Frank of Wheeling and Joseph of Cowgill. Elder Reitz and Elder Smith conducted services. Burial was at Wheeling Cemetery.


Feb. 9, 1901 - Jesse H. Thomas died at his home 6 miles Northeast of Wheeling of consumption, age 42 yrs, 5 months. He was the son of Mrs. J. A. Walker, of Wheeling.


Feb. 27, 1901 - Miss Maud Botts and Mr. William Goff were married at the home of bride's parents in Parson Creek Township, Rev. W. A. Biggart, officiating.


Apr. 28, 1901 - Aunt Sallie Crawford dies. She was wife of John Crawford, married 1880. She was Sarah Strickle, her first husband was Jacob Jenkins, who died Nov. 1865. She was 90 yrs. old. Rev. John Goff held services. Burial in Ross Cemetery, 8 miles North of Wheeling.


Apr. 29, 1901 - Preston Mitchell died as the result of an operation at 10:55 P.M. He was born Nov. 1, 1875 and married Miss Nellie Powell, who died last June, leaving Forrest, Ernest, and Nellie May. He was the son of J. T. and M. E. Mitchell. Services were held at Wheeling Christian Church, conducted by Elder M. L. Smith.


June 24, 1901 - Mrs. Julia Ann (Richardson) Roe formerly of Wheeling dies at home of her son-in-law Calvin Norton at Brook- field of dropsy. She was born in Mich., Oct. 19, 1842. She married Joel Roe in Iowa, when 18 yrs. old and had 8 children. Ross Ulysis was one of them.


Nov. 1901 - E. D. Carpenter appointed postmaster. E. A. Seely, our old Postmaster is again licking stamps and handing out mail.
