Nov. 1901 - J. G. Littrell has opened up a feed, grain and flour store and meat market.


Nov. 1901 - Uncle Tom Warren has had a cancer removed from his face.


Nov. 1901 - Henry Ishmael, our blacksmith, met with serious acci- dent when a lighted match set his bed afire.


1902 - Elmer Norman of North of Wheeling marries Miss Delia Johnston of Wellsville, Mo. Wednesday.


Jan .. 1, 1902 - Stephen Perrine, formerly in the employment of the Scruby Bro. Grain and Implement Co. was married New Years Day to Miss Mayme Beat, one of Wheeling township's finest young women.


1902 - Postmaster E. D. Carpenter received word Judge G. W. Benedict died.


1902 ?- Marriage of William Vogt, prominent young farmer north of Wheeling and Miss Bell Harvey, daughter of Elijah Harvey.


1902 or 1903? - Mrs. Mary, wife of Edward Grant, died at St. Marys Hospital, Sat. morning. She was 45 yrs. old, recently moved to Chillicothe from Wheeling Township.


Mar. 11, 1902 - Miss Mollie Cummings died of consumption. She was born near Eversonville in 1887 and died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Cummings.


1902 ?- On last Monday, J. H. Collins sold his stock of mer- chandise to R. A. Tharp, cashier of the Farmers and Merchant Bank and J. H. Dunn, the well known and weal- thy Meadville merchant. Mr. Collins has been in business here many yrs. Store later opened as Dunn and Tharp.

1902 ?- The Commercial Hotel burned. Fire was discovered at 10 o'clock Sunday. The entire Wheeling population was on the scene to fight the blaze. When it was seen the hotel was lost, efforts were concentrated on saving the J. B. Patrick's Livery Barn, which stood a few feet east of the burning building. Hotel was on Front Street just east of depot and owned by S. R. Ricket of Chillicothe. Ben Bright, Cofer Collins, Len Bassett, Frank Post, Joe Tompkins, and Sherm Gandy are credited with saving Barn.

Nov. 19, 1902 - Miss Florance Smith and Mr. Frank Gage were married at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Mclain in Des Moines, formerly of Wheeling.


Dec. 17, 1902 - Marriage of Otto Littrell and Corda Botts (colored) both of Wheeling.


Dec. 24, 1902 - Miss Gertrude Hamilton of Mooresville married Emerson Lowe ( son of Elmer Lowe).


Jan. 6, 1903 - Mrs. Mary Fitzpatrick, wife of John F. Sr., died at her home several miles north of Wheeling at 2 P.M.

Jan. 28, 1903 - Joseph Tompkins and Bertha Littrell were married by Rev. Ritz of Canton, at the home of the bride.


Feb. 3, 1903 - Geneva Tharp, wife of Richard A. Tharp, died in Colo. She was born Apr. 18, 1867 in Boone Co., Indiana, came to Wheeling in 1881. Married Sept. 10, 1889. Burial in Wheeling Cemetery. Daughters, Lela and Fay and son, Earl.


Mar. 3, 1903 - Mrs. Fannie E. Collins age, 72 yrs, died at home of her son, James Collins II, in Wheeling Tues. morning. Remains shipped to Tonyville, Ky.


Nov. 16, 1903 - Anna Calvin Gould, beloved wife of Edwin J. Gould, dies at Blueford, Ill. Formerly was of Wheeling. Her sister, Mrs. Josie Gish had been visiting in the Gould home. She was born in Mercer Co., Mo., July 20, 1.874 and married Edwin Feb. 14, 1894. She leaves 2 small sons, one 8 and other 2 years old.


Nov. 19, 1903 - Jane W. Wooldridge was born in Christian Co., Ky. and joined the Baptist Church when 16 yrs. old. She married R. G. Arnold Aug. 31, 1852 and united with Christian Church in Chillicothe, Mo., in 1857. She was a charter member of Wheeling Christian Church, which was organized in 1870. Services were held in Wheeling Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Ritz. Burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Dec. 17, 1903 - Mr. Fred Smith, age 27 and Miss Maude Young, age 18 were married at the residence of Rev. Gee. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reece Young of Wheeling. They will be at home 2 miles south of Wheeling.


1904 ?- Mr. H. Gilbeaut is Wheeling's new Railroad Agent.


1904 ?- Ross Harvey, who was formerly owner of the H. E. Tharp drug store in this city married Miss Kathryn Bailey of Meadville. He is in K.C. Many friends will be surprised .


1903 or 1904? - Benton Shiflett, bought the F. S. Woods Buildings installing nicest and neatest and completest meat market. W. V. Littrell the popular butcher will manage the market.


1904 - Many compliments were given Mrs. Minnie Timble for her write-up of the Chrysanthemum show in the Democrat.


Jan. 19, 1904 - Ruth, a baby girl, born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Tompkins Mrs. Tompkins, the former Miss Bertha Littrell.


1904 ?- Edward Morrison and Miss Lela Gage were married Wed. morning at Chillicothe by Probate Judge Umphalbaugh.


Jan. 24, 1904 - Sarah V. Tompkins died at home 5 miles southeast of Wheeling. 49 yrs. 5 months 12 days. She was the wife of Nanford Tompkins. Sister of H. S. and F. L. Smiley and mother of H. M. Tompkins and Mattie T., Anna Metz, Cora A., Frank C., and McKinly. She was born Aug. 12, 1854 and mother of ll children, some dead.


1904 - Gilbeaut came same time Christian Church hired Elder Newton.


Feb. 1904 - Barton H. Whaley of Wheeling and Annie Fitzjarrell of Hickman Mills were granted licenses to marry at K.C., Tues. Mr. Whaley is the senior member of the livery firm of Whaley Bro. in Wheeling.


Feb. 9, 1904 - Marton A. Parks and Mrs. Mary A. James, both of Wheeling, were married by Judge Umphalbaugh. Groom known as Buzz Parks. The bride is daughter of Mrs. R. S. Head, who lives north of town.


Feb. 19, 1904 - Frazy Francis Doty, born March 19, 1858 in Randolph Co., Indiana died at his home in Wheeling. He married Amanda Smith, Nov. 25, 1889 at her home in Sullivan Co., Mo. He leaves 4 boys and 4 girls, 1 boy died. Funeral at home in Wheeling, conducted by Rev. O. P. Bishop.


Mar. 1, 1904 - Miss Lottie R. Real, daughter of Geo. Real marries Mr. Andrew Everly. He receives the handsome salary of $1000.00 per year.


Mar. 12, 1904 - Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Shiflet had twin boys, one weighed 63 and the other 7 lbs. (one died April 2nd and the other April 6th).


Mar. 13, 1904 - The Rev. C. S. Dayhoff, pastor of the Methodist Church married Mr. David A. Watson and Miss Lucy A. Lowe, two of Wheeling's most popular young people at 3 o'clock Sunday. Mr. Eli James and Miss May Bird were attendants Mar. 14, 1904 - John N. Uhmacher was born in Wisconsin May 10, 1857 and died at his home near Wheeling. He came to near Sturges in 1869. He lived in Wheeling Community 11 yrs. He married Elizabeth Ogan Dec. 7, 1884 and had 3 children, two still living, he also leaves his father, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.


Jan. 14, 1904 - Wheeling Methodist Church members gave a party for Pastor S. C. Dayhoff at parsonage in Meadville.


Mar. 15, 1904 - Fay Wiley was born at Mountain Grove to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wiley.


Apr, 8, 1904 - A. M. Lowry, age 79 yrs. 8 months died. Services were conducted by J. H. Patterson. Burial in Ogan Cemetery.

Apr. 9, 1904 - Fredrick William Springer was born in Germany. He married Mary Sophia Deventer and the young couple came to America in 1849. They homesteaded on the county line near Wheeling in 1869. Children, William Henry, Mrs. Jennie Francis, John Eldore, Mrs. Lena Fell, Mrs. Adelaide Post and F. T. Springer.


May 1904 - Wedding at Wellsville, of Fred Lowe, son of Elmer Lowe of Wheeling, married Miss Lizzie Weckman, daughter of Fred Weckman, formerly of Wheeling.

Sept .28, 1904 - Miss Lena Buckner and Mr. Luther Boone, were married at the home of the bride's father, A. J. Buckner, in north part of Wheeling. Judge E. M. Tanner, officia- ting. £ He is the son of Mrs. Rebecca Davis of near town. They took a train to visit St. Louis World Fair, accompanied by Mr. Cofer Collins and Miss Myra Mace.


Nov. 20, 1904 - Herb Tharp, the druggist, spent Sunday with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Tharp in Eversonville.


Oct. 2, 1904 - At 12:30 Miss Cora Tompkins and Floyd Darling were united in marriage by the Rev. O. P. Bishop, pastor of Baptist Church.


Nov. 1904 - Miss Una Davis of Chillicothe is the guest of Miss Emma Ray Dimitt.


Nov. 20, 1904 - Andy Clark and Miss Etta Littrell were married Sunday afternoon at the Baptist Church by Rev. O. P. Bishop.


Nov. 16, 1904 - Miss Hattie Brenneman and Mr. Bert DeWitt, son of J.M. DeWitt, were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Brenneman, south of town. Miss Ella DeWitt played the Wedding march.


Dec. 19, 1904 - Adam Seely, 91 yrs. 2 months, 5 days passed away. He came to Wheeling in 1869. He is the father of Lester Seely. His daughter, who died several yrs. ago was the wife of James H. Morrison, who was our banker and whose daughter is Mrs. Ed Belsher. Erastus A. Seely, eldest son in deputy postmaster of Wheeling.


Dec. 24, 1904 - James 0. Phillips, age 24 of Meadville and Arabella May Bowen, age 21, were married in the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Bowen, East of Wheeling by Rev. C. S. Dayhoff.


Dec. 21, 1904 - Uncle George Wolfskill, 83 yrs. old, passed. James J. and George W., two of his sons died a few weeks ago.

Dec. 28, 1904 - Arthur Dailey, Harlan Slocum and John Walkup, students at William Jewell College at Liberty are at home for the Holidays.


1905 .- Mrs. Ella Shea, 63 yrs. old died at her home, east of Leopolis. She was native of Ireland. Burial in Leopolis Cemetery.


1905 - James Thomas, a sufferer for many yrs. of consumption, died Sunday. Lived 6 miles Northeast of Wheeling. He was baptized into Christian Church a week ago. He was born Feb. 3, 1.863 the son of J. A. Walker. He married Miss Elva Rickett, Jan. 10, 1888 and leaves one child, age 2 yr. Services were at Wheeling Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Lyon, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Feb. 4, 1905 - Mrs. Alice Jane Howe died at the home of her son, Volney J. Howe, two miles north east of Wheeling, Sat. Her husband, Lewis Howe, died same place 7 yrs ago. Was born June 25, 1826, had one son and 3 brothers. A. B. West of Wheeling. Services at Christian Church, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Mar. 2, 1905 - Nancy A. Smiley died in Wheeling. She was born in Adams Co., Ohio on May 13, 1820, was married 1841.


Mar. 3, 1905 - Mrs. Addie Norvel, age 27, died at the home of her brother-in-law, Samuel Mills in Wheeling, after a lingering illness of consumption, husband died 2 years ago, with the same disease. She leaves 2 boys, who are living with their grandfather ( James Norvell) near Humphrey. Buried in Smith Cemetery.


Nov. 30, 1867 - Wm. Davis Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Davis, who moved 1905 drown in Lake Erie, 38 years ago, was moved and interred in Wheeling Cemetery. He was a sailor and was 20 yrs. old when he drown.


1905 - Harry Spooner weds Miss Bertha Inderweisen.


1906 ?- Mahala Ishmael, eldest daughter of Mrs. E. Ishmael married Albert Hyde.


1906 - Mr. A. F. Bowen, Jr., son of A. F. Sr. and Miss Myrtle Harris, daughter of the late Wm. Harris, were married at high noon at home of the bride's sister, Mrs. David Sensenich in Wheeling.


1906 - A. F. Bowen received eight knife wounds at the hand of Wm. Summers. Summers and Charley Beckwith were quarrel- ing in front of Bowen's home. Summers was drunk and swearing. Bowen interferred because he didn't want his daughters to hear such language. Beckwith went home and Summers knifed Bowen, before going on. Dr. Swope was summoned to care for wounds.

1906 - John Phillips died at the home of his father, James Phillips about 2 miles east of here. He was 33 yrs. old and spent entire life in this vicinity. Services were held at Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. C. S. Dayhoff, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Feb. 14, 1906 - Jesse Alfred White suffered acute asthma complications with bronchitis. He married Mattie Waydelick Feb. 20, 1898 and had one son. Funeral at Harmony Chapel, bur- ial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Mar. 7, 1906 - Death of James A. Baldwin. He was born in Rodgeport, Boone Co., Mo. July 8, 1841 and died at his home in Wheeling 6:25. Came to Livingston Co. in 1883. He has suffered from consumption for several yrs. He leaves his second wife, the former Lucy H. Thomas and one son, James T. Baldwin. Prayer services at home, conducted by Elder Smith. Burial in Wheeling

May 27, 1906 - May Mitchel (Mrs. May Bootz) was born in Cass Co., Mo., and died of consumption after sickness of 18 months. She was near death at the time of her brother's death, was married about 8 yrs. ago and have one daughter. Services were held at Wheeling Baptist Church, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


May 13, 1906 - J. Willard Mitchell was born in Cass Co., Mo., Jan. 8, 1872 and died at home of his parents in Wheeling. Suffered about one yr. with consumption, lived here 15 yrs. Leaves his father amd mother and 2 brothers, Manley and Harvey of Okla. City, three sisters, Mrs. Frank Warren of Okla, City, Mrs. Danial Bootz ( see above) of Kansas and Mrs. Ed Thornburg of Wheeling. Services at Wheeling Christian Church, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


June 20, 1906 - Miss Frances Noore weds Claude Albertson in K.C. Friday.


June 27, 1906 - Miss Jessie Evelyn Dimitt weds Mr. John Lowry Walkup at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Dimitt, Wednesday evening. The ceremony was performed by Elder H. F. Ritz.


Oct. 28, 1906 - Thomas C. Warren died of cancer on his face caused by flying wood chips. He was born in Ky. 1827 and came here with his parents in 1833 and settled near Wheeling He married Miss Elizabeth Garwood in 1848, who died in 1852, leaving two children, Thomas W. Warren and Mrs. Sarah E. Stout. In 1852, he married Miss Elizabeth Dreon, who died 6 yrs. ago, their children are Joseph and Frank Warren. Services were held in Wheeling Christian Church, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.

Nov. 4, 1906 - Miss Mattie Tompkins and Mr. F. S. Littrell were married in the home of the bride's father, Man ford Tompkins. Wedding march was played by Cora Littrell. Mrs. Anna Metz of Putman Co. attended the wedding of her sister.


1906 or 1907 - Mr. and Mrs. Thichoff, station agent at Wheeling are moving to Palmyra in a few days.


Feb. 15, 1907 - Mrs. Harrison Bird dies with lung trouble, survived by her husband (See Feb. 11, 1909) .


1907 - W. H. Parr of Linneus married Minnie Stillabower of Wheeling.


June 4, 1907 - Mrs. Della Slocum, 38 yrs. 2 mo. 29 days, mother of Harlan Slocum, died of consumption. Funeral Monday at home, conducted by Rev. C. Mastin Pastor of Baptist Church.


Feb. 21, 1908 - Capt. P. P. Peugh died of pneumonia at his son's - Dr. Dewayne Peugh. He was connected with Alex Moble Manufacture of bricks. He came to Wheeling in 1870 and owned 340 acres.


1908 - Wm. R. Albertson (Claude's brother) age 29, and Livia Gillispie, age 21, two of Wheeling's popular young people were married in Chillicothe last Saturday by Judge Umphalbaugh.


May 18, 1908 - Miss Minerva Blair and Mr. John Cummings were married at Leopolis Church at 7 o'clock. Rev. Father Lawrence officiating.


May 18, 1908 - Mary Gish, 87 yrs. 5 months, died at the home of her brother, George. She was one of 12 children, daughter of. John Gish and Elizabeth James. Father and 6 sons and 6 daughters, came to Livingston Co. in 1850 and settled north of Wheeling.


Oct. 1908 - Elmer Lowe dies at his home in Wheeling, Tues. morning at 10:30 of a stroke of paralysis. Besides his widow, he leaves the following children, Herman Lowe of Colo., Emerson of Montana, Mrs. Lucy Watson of Coffeyville, Kans., Fred, Ace, Ruth and Martha of Wheeling. He was a native of Indiana and was 55 yrs. old.


Feb. 11, 1909 - Sudden death of Harrison Bird, unexpected. He was a long sufferer of heart disease. Survived by following children, Mrs. A. E. Norman, Mrs. W. . L. Warren, Mrs. Eli James, Miss Laura Bird and Elmer Bird. Services held at Wheeling Christian Church, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Apr. 8, 1909 - Miss Ethel Harris and Mr. F. C. Tompkins were married at 7:30 at the home of the bride's sister, Mr. and Mrs. David Sensenich in Wheeling. Rev. R. M. Webdell officiating.


1909 - Drs. Barney, Swope and Trimble amputated the left lower limb of Charley Botts. Gangrene spread from his toes,


Jan. 9, 1910 - Mrs. Emma Littrell, daughter of Joel Gish was born in Indiana in 1844, came to Wheeling in 1855, married W. J. Littrell in 1866. They had four sons, J.G., T. V., E. J. and F. S, and four girls Sadie, Ida, Maude and Etta. Funeral at the Baptist Church and burial in Wheeling Cemetery. Mr. Littrell died Feb. 24, 1897.


Jan. 10, 1910 - Tolbert Collins, a well known resident of Wheeling Township died at his home south of Wheeling Sunday morning at one o'clock of Bright's disease. He is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Cornelia Clem. Funeral at Wheeling Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Patterson, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


June 25, 1910 - Death of Mrs. Nellie (Spooner) Bailey. She grew up in Wheeling, being born north of town, Oct. 20, 1878. Children - Ruth and Lucile, two brothers, Charles and Harry Spooner and a sister, Mrs. S. A. Timmons of north of Theeling.


1911 - Mckinley Tompkins, 21 yrs. old and Roy Moore, 17 yrs. drowned Sunday afternoon while bathing. Floyd Haynes narrowly escaped giving his life to save friends. They were students at Elliott Business College. Accident happened in Iowa. Tompkins engaged to Grace Bright.


Feb. 18, 1911 - Death of Mrs. W. D. Edmundson. Funeral services at Wheeling Methodist Church by Rev. Yetters, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Feb. 27, 1911 - Rev. C. W. Murr, Methodist Church pastor, who left here 2 yrs. ago, died.


Mar. 22, 1911 - Wheeling young men wed Meadville Girls, double wedding. Harry White and Miss Frances Cloud. James Buckner and Niss Susana Seales.


1911 or 1912 - The County Court on Monday, accepted the resignation of J. W. James, Justice of the Peace for Wheeling Township and appointed E. M. Tanner to fill the vacancy .


Jan. 16, 1912 - Josiah Whitebread dies. He was born in Carbon Co., Pa., Jan. 3, 1836. He married Mary Adeline Fenster- macher, March 22, 1858. They had 7 children, one died in infancy. Ira Whitebread, Ida Frazier, Ada Whitebread, Mary Littrell and Henry Whitebread. They


moved to Wheeling July 1868. Services held at Wheeling Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. V. A. Yetter, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


June 27, 1912 - Mother of Howard Mclain of Wheeling, died at her residence in Wheeling. She was 76 yrs. old. Services at Wheeling Baptist Church. Burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Aug. 21, 1912 - Death calls Bridget Dooley at the home of her son, W. A. Kinsella. She fell from her porch, which caused her death. She was born in 1826 in Ireland, came to the U.S. when a young lady, She married Lawrence Kinsella in 1860 at St. Joseph. They had two daughters Mrs. James Lawler and Mrs. Frank Lawler and three sons, L. M. , Thomas Mina and Patrick, who died sever- al years ago.


1913 - Miss Frances Hawker weds George Brenneman at the home of the bride's parents, Amos Hawker, by Rev. Boyer of Christian Church.


Apr. 13, 1913 - Sudden death of Henry Norman, 74, dropped dead on the sidewalk in Wheeling going home from depot. Leaves three children, E. J. and A. E. Norman of Wheeling and Mrs. James Stewart of Louisana, a brother, John Norman. Born Sept. 25, 1839 in Wayne Co., N.Y. Came here in 1866 and settled on a farm near Wheeling. Burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Apr. 1, 1913 - Harry White, 25 yrs. died at his home in Wheeling of Tuberculosis of the hip after illness of 14 months. Came to Wheeling as a boy, from Ohio. He leaves his wife, one child, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh White and three brothers, Russell, Lysle and Eldred. Ser- vices were held at Wheeling Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Mitchell, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Jan. 31, 1914 - Dr. J. B. Freeman died at his home in Alpha, Mo. He married Mary Collins about 1854 or 55. In 1875 moved to a farm east of Chillicothe, later moving to Wheeling where he followed his profession. In 1906, he moved to Sturges where he served 2 terms in the State Legislature.


Feb. 16, 1914 - E. A. (Razz) Seely, 70 yrs. old, died of pneumonia. He has lived here 45 yrs. and was postmaster and assistant postmaster for 25 yrs. He leaves a brother, Lester Seely, nephews, Morton S. and Eldon and a niece, Mrs. Ed Belshe.


Feb. 23, 1914 - Miss Grace Bright marries Milo Bassett.


1914 - Stephen Perrine dies. He was born June 4, 1858 in Wisconsin. He was associated in business with his uncle, William Scruby. Jan. 1, 1902, he married Miss Mayme Beat, had two children, Robert Margaret - 11 yrs. and Nina Bell now 9 yrs. Burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


June 13, 1914 - Marriage announced of Miss Hazel Amelia McClelland to Hubert E. Smiley, June 13, 1914 at St. Louis. He is a junior member of Smiley Hardware Co. and is in charge of their interest in Linneus.


Nov. 12, 1914 - Miss Lillian Biggart of Wheeling marries Karl A. Dalpin.


Feb. 15, 1915 - Mrs. Lena (Buckner) Boone, 30 yrs. old, wife of Luther Boone, one of Wheeling's Merchants died at her home in Wheeling. Besides her husband she leaves a son, Stanley, father, A. J. Buckner and two brothers, Henry of Eversonville and James of Brookfield.


Feb. 21, 1915 - Miss Mary M. Hart weds Clyde Harpe, married secretly 2 weeks. Wedding at home of bride's sister, Mrs.J.H. Slocum near Wheeling.


May 31, 1915 - James G. Littrell and Pansy Thornton went to Liberty and were married by Dr. J. P. Green, president of William Jewell College. They will reside in Wheeling.


Oct. 20, 1915 - Amos Hawker, elder citizen of Wheeling, died at his home 1 mile S.W. of town of a stroke of paralysis. He was born at Marmington, W. Va., April 1, 1835 and came here in 1866. He married Mary L. Furbee. Services were held in Wheeling Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Henry. Burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Oct. 28, 1915 - James Tanner, 87 yrs., father of Gene Tanner, Wheeling barber, hanged himself to a tree. Dr. Swope was sum- moned, who cut the rope, he was dead.


1916 - Dell Norton passed away, he spent his entire life in- Wheeling. His death was caused by lead poison from paint he used in his work. One son and wife survive him.


Mar. 30, 1916 - Mrs. Henry Narr dies, leaving following children- Bert, Paul, Lulu, Ester and a baby Leland, 11 days old.


Apr. 30, 1916 - Death called Mrs. Mary Hawker at her home near Wheeling. Mary L. Burbee was born in Bassnetville, W. Va., Jan. 6, 1839. She leaves 7 children, James, Charles, Frank, Guy, Delia, Dora and Mrs. Geo. R. Brenneman. Amos Hawker died Oct. 1915, 1 daughter, Mary died Aug. 1915 and a son died in infancy. Adopted daughter, Harriet.

1916 - Mrs. Eliza Jane (Newburn) Powers dies. She was born March 3, 1845 and married Aaron Powers Jan. 18, 1866. She had Il children, Alvin, Edwin, Mrs. Emma Higgins, Martin, Anson H., Cyrus A., Archie M., and Elmer Powers. One sister was Cora Glore, mother of Mrs. Bill Seidel. She came to community in 1880. Died in Colorado, burial in Wheeling Cemetery.


Apr. 2, 1917 - Oliver Wiley, a prominent farmer passed away. He had three brothers, and one sister, Mrs. J. C. Kester. Brothers, are J. G., O. L., and J. A. Wiley. Burial in Parson Creek Cemetery.


Sept . 26,1917? - Miss Irene Cesar marries Herman Shiflet.


Sept.26, 1917 - A carbide explosion kills Thomas Botts on his farm south of Wheeling. A farm hand and Mr. Botts were filling a tank with carbide and it started to rain getting it wet causing the explosion. He is survived by his wife of the home, Mrs. Minnie Trimble, Mrs. Nannie Powers and Ida Post and son, Charley.


1917 - Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Patrick moved to a farm near Brookfield, Monday. Wheeling loses one of its best families, ran a livery business for nearly 10 yrs. They were proprietors of the restaurant, now owned by Boone and Bloss for 6 or 7 years.


Dec. 24, 1917 - Bert Narr and Stella Jones were married at the Chillicothe Court House, Judge Sam Rohur officiating. They were attended by Buel Warren"and Lulu. Narr.


Feb. 3, 1918 - Death of Dr. Edwin DeWitt Peugh. He was born at Wheeling July 21, 1873, only child of Peter P. and Charlotte Delight Peugh.
