Mr. and Mrs. Sheppard's Twenty- Fifth Wedding Anniversary.


Over Three Hundred People Pay Them Their Respects-Many Costly Presente Givea.


Yesterday was the twenty-fifth an- niversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mra. W. D. Sheppard and about 300 of the leading citizens of Springfield peld them their respecta and renewed their friendship.


Mrs. Sheppard and her charming daughter, Min Fannie, received the young people in the afternoon, and there was a constant stream of car- riages going to and from the elegant Sheppard residence on east Walnnt street.


In the evening the older friends of Mr. and Mrs. Sheppard gathered at their home and extended hearty con- gratulations on their twenty-five years of married bliss and wished their. neaith and prosperity for the future

of .the. valley were more extensively used than any other flower. One notable feature was the presence of many aged friends of Mr. and Mrs. Sheppard. Many were there who scarcely ever go to a social function.


The refreshments were the choicest und daintest which could be procured and were of course highly enjoyed. Music of a high order of excellence was furnished by Day's mandolin club.


It took nearly a whole room on the recend floor to hold. all the presente received. A large portion of them were sent by Mrs. Sheppard's brothers and sisters, who reside in New England. fine silver clock was given by the ladies of the First Baptist church to Mrs. Sheppard.


Three of the guests last night, Mr. and Mrs. I. D. Sheppard, of this city, aud Mins R. N. Sheppard, of New Jer. sey, were present at the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Sheppard at Tewksburyy. Mass., twenty-five years ago. Mr. Will Sheppard, the only son. is attending Harvard university and could not attend.


W. D. Sheppard is one of the leading financiers of the city, and I always among the leaders for progress, for im- provement or for charity. Mra. Shep- pard is counted among the ladies of the city who are constantly doing acts of kindness and helping others. 'She is a leader in society and counts her friends by the score.
