STURGEON BAY. The judicial seat of Door county, is a prosperous incor- porated city on an inlet of the same name, which, with a canal 3 miles in length con- nects Green Bay with Lake Michigan, thus shortening the passage from the south into Green Bay, by 150 miles. It was set - tled in 1850, is rapidly increasing in wealth and importance, and now contains 4 saw mills, 2 planing mills, a furniture factory. a flour mill, a brewery, a foundry and ma- chine shop, an elevator, 2 banks, & well equipped and efficient fire department. 6 churches and good schools.
