WINNECONNE. A flourishing vil- lage on the Wolf tiver, incorporated in 1886, is on the northern division of the C., M. & St. P. Ry, in the township of same name, Winnebago county, 13 miles north- west of Oshkosh, the county seat. First settled in 1849, it now contains Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Methodist and Catholic churches, public schools, steam saw mills, feed and planing mills, an opera house capable of seating 500, a large num- ber of special and general stores and a weekly newspaper, the Local. Boat build- ing is extensively carried on. Oshkosh is the location of the nearest bank. Lake Winnebago and the adjoining lake, Poy-
