The gathering of Obituaries in book form was compiled throught the efforts of the Clan Diggers Genealogical Society of the Kern River Valley, with the permission of the publishers of the 'Kern Valley Sun' newspaper. Mamie F. Hendricks
Memorial services were held Thursday, November 17, 1994 at the Library in Lake Isabella for Mamic F. Hendricks of Lake Isabella. Mamie was born August 17, 1913 in St. Joseph, Missouri and passed away November 9, 1994 in Mt. Mesa.
Mamie was married to Steve Hendricks in 1932 and had 49 years together until he passed away in 1981. She was a clerk at the U.S. Post Office in San Jose for 20 years before retiring in 1978. Mamie was a member of the NARF, Senior Nutrition, the Clan Diggers and the NSDAR.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Alice and Cecil Dale of Lake Isabella; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Judy Hendricks of Mt. View, Calif .; also many neices and nephews and grand neices and grand nephews. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary
NSDAR
The Kawaiisu chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a memorial service for Mamie Hendricks on Nov 17 at the Library in Lake Isabella. The service was presented by Marian Adkins, Regent. Attending the service were her sister, Alice and Cecil Dale of Lake Isabella and family, brother-in-law John and Marie Hendricks of Mt. View, Calif., and family; and three neices, Mamme and Mike Markieviez of Albuquerque, N.M. and family, Janet and Robert Gibson of San Jose and family, and Cherrie Rubnankara and son of Sacramento. Also present were many friends and members of the NARF, Clan Diggers, NSDAR, and Senior Nutrition. Mamie was a charter member of the Senior Nutrition organization. Nadelle Getting announced that Mamie's name would be placed on a plaque at the Senior Center in Lake Isabella. Mamie was an active and faithful member of our chapter. The offices she held in four years as a member were Chaplain, Registrar, Lineage Research, Membership and press book chairman. During the memorial service red, white, and blue carnations were placed by our members. The hall was decorated in red, white, and blue. Refreshments were served by Phyllis Piper and Marge Laskowski.

ISABEL PEREA
Services at the Garden Chapel of White's Funeral Home in Azuza. California were held December 31, 1980 for Isabel Perea, 92, who died December 27, 1980 at Glendora, California.
Mrs. Perea, born June 25, 1888 at Onyx, survived her son by just six days.
Rev. Robert F. Loya officiated at the services, and concluding services were at Oakdale Momorial Park in Glendora.
CLAUDE L. PEREA
Services were held Friday, December 26 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel, Glendora, California for Claude L. Perea, born October 18, 1908 in Weldon, He was 72.
Pastor Dan Benedict of the Covina United Methodist Church officiated. Internment was at Oakdale Memorial Park.
ALBERT RAY MASSA
At the request of the deceased, no funeral services will be held for Albert R. Massa of Bella Vista, who died in December. A private cremation was held December 29 and the ashes scattered.
Mr. Massa was a native of Segar City, Oklahoma born March 30, 1901. He was an engineer for many years, last affiliated with the US Forest Service.
Prior to his goverment work, he worked for the Union Ice Company in Bakersfield and in the Los Angeles area.
He was a 50 year member of the Sun Garden Masonic Lodge, F&AM at Fresno.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Massa, two sons, Earle Massa and Alvin Massa, a daughter, Janice Tatley, brother William Massa, two sisters, Bessis Grafft and Grace Moore, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the
Shriners Crippled Children Hospital. Arrangements were by Centurian Memorial Enterprises in Bakersfield.

GORDON STAUFFER
Gordon Stauffer, age 72, a resident of Southlake, passed away December 28, 1980 at the Kern Valley Hospital Mt. Mesa. A native of Gordon Nebraska where he was born on November 1, 1908 he moved to California where he had resided the past 29 years with one year in Kern County. Most of his adult life was spent as a foundry worker for Harvey Aluminum Co. making aluminum castings. Mr. Stauffer is survived by his wife Thelma of Southlake, and a daughter Suzanne Augustyn of Lomita. There was one granddaughter Carrie Augustyn, Lomita. After cremation the ashes were scattered beside Lake Isabella. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.
ALFRED RICHARD MAY
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 5, 1981 at Graveside in the Kern River Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights, for Alfred Richard May. age 70, of Lake Isabella, who died in Bakersfield Community Hospital on January 1, 1981. Masonic Lodge 827 officated the services. A native of Pittsburg, Kansas, he was born January 31, 1910. Most of his adult life was spent as an engineer for Douglas Aircraft Corporation in Aerospace engineering. Mr. May is survived by three sons. Richard H. May of Reseda, Bruce May of San Luis Obispo, Craig May of San Luis Obispo, a daughter Jean Brown of Los Osos, a brother Joe May of Mesa , Arizona. There were nine grandchildren.

Harold Edward Yazell passed away January 4 at the Kern Valley Hospital. Mr. Yazell was regional sales mamager for many years with the Minute Maid corporation in the Riverside area. He is survived by his mother Mrs. Effie Belcher of Long Beach, twin sons Harry of San Yacinto and Gary of Minnesota, daughters Loretta and Carolyn of San Vacinto, two brothers ,
seven sisters and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held Graveside at the Kern River Valley Cemetery, members of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lake Isabella Lodge 498. Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery. Born in Springfield, Illinois September 9, 1919. Harold Yazell was 61 years of age. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.
HERBERT HERMAN WITT
Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday January 12, 1981 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, California, for Herbert Herman Witt, age 64, of Wofford Heights, California, who died in Kern Valley Hospital in Mt. Mesa on January 7, 1981. Elks Lodge 2358 of Wofford Heights, will officiate. Interment will be in Kern River Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights. A native of Ripon. Wisconsin, born June 10, 1916, he lived in Kern County 18 years, and in California for 35 years. He was an Engineer for Bemco, Inc. most of his adult life working in refrigeration engineering. He is survived by his wife Bessie, a son Ron Witt of Hollywood, two sisters, Evelyn Lunderville of Glendale, and Sally Haase of Post Falls, Idaho. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Robert L. Hansard
A resident of Wylie, Texas, Robert L. Hansard passed away in that city January 1, 1981.
Mr. Hansard retired from the motion picture industry in 1962 and moved to Mt. Mesa, where he resided until 1973. He wes instrumental in the building of Kern Valley Hospital and was a member of the original Board of Directors.
He is survived by his wife Gladys, also of Wylie, and by son Jack, Don and Bill of Los Angeles, a Daughter. Mrs. Kaye Courcier of La Habra, California
Interment was at Parkview Lawn. Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bakersfield at noon Monday, January 5, 1981 with the Rev. Bud Brye Grace, Baptist Church, officiating.
Opal Rengers
Mrs. Opal Kengers, 81, died in San Joaquin Community Hospital January 12, 1981.
Mrs. Rengers, a native of Arkansas, was born November 18, 1889, and spent much of her life in St. Louis, Missouri. She moved to Southern California in 1946 and to the Longview area in 1974. Most recently she was a resident of Mt. Mesa Mobilehome Park.
She is survived by three sons, Ray, and Robert of St. Louis and Gene Rengers; daughters Marian Juhnke of Bend, Oregon and Mary Lou Ubar- dille of Temple City, California.
Bessie M.D. Hillan
Services were held at 5 p.m. Mon- day evening, January 12, 1981 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mt Mesa for Bessie Mary Dudman Hillan, who died at Kern Valley Hospital in Mt. Mesa January 8,198].
A native of Ogden, Utah, she was born October 8, 1902 She lived in Kern County 15 years and in California for 35 years
She is survived In one sister, Geraldine Collins of Thousand Oaks. California, and four brothers, Earl Dudman of Utah, and Lames, Lewis and Eliner Dudman of the I.os Angeles atti.

ORVILLE H. REECE Born January 1. 1905 in Mo. passed away January 7, 1981 at Willowlake Convalesant Hospital, Long Beach. He moved to California in late 1930's Worked for Studebaker Co., Sargent Engineering then into Real Estate. He retired and moved to Lake Isabella in 1966.
He is survived by a daughter and three grandchildren and two great grandchildren of Las Vegas, Nevada, a stepdaughter and two grandchildren of Cerritos, California.

Hjelmeland of Riverkern, Ca. who passed away at the Hilltop Convalescent Hospital in Bakersfield, Ca. on January 12, 1981. Services were officiated by Pastor Tim Ander- son of the Lutheran Church. Samuel Monroe Wilcox
Graveside services were held in the Kern River Valley Cemetery on Wed- nesday, January 21, 1981 at 2 p.m. for Samuel Monroe Wilcox, age 78, of Lake Isabella, who died at Kern Valley Hospital on January 18, 1981.
A native of Cairo, Georgia where he was born on April 1, 1902, he spent most of his adult life as a truck driver for Colonial Stores Company. He is survived by his wife Mary of Lake Isabella, daughters Myrtice Layfield of Campton, Ca., Fay Davis of Lawn- dale, Ca., Hazel Carter of Phoenix, Arizona. Sons: Sanuny Wilcox, Carl Wilcox of Clearwater, Florida, David Wilcox of Sun Valley, Ca., Curtis Wilcox of Torrange, Ca. Sisters: Nellie Kendig of Warwick, Georgia, Effie Johnson of Miami, Florida. There were 21 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Services were officiated
by Reverend James O. Hux with inter- ment in Kern River Valley Cemetery.

Graveside funeral services were held Thursday January 29, 1 p.m. at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Frank F. Becker, 59, of Kernville.
Mr. Becker is a WW Il Army Veteran and is survived by his wife Esther, daughter Kathleen Gail Ellena of los Gatos, two brothers Joseph and Andy Becker both of New York, one sister Agnes Greico and two granchildren, Susan and Victoria. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.

Services were held Friday, January 23, 1981 at 2 p.m. in the Valley Mor- tuary Chapel in Lake Isabella, California for Catherine K. Fraga, age 84, of Riverkern, California who died at Parkview Julian Convalescent Hospital in Bakersfield, January 21, 1981.
Mel Hetrick of Jehovah's Witnesses officiated, Interment was in Inglewood Cemetery, Inglewood, California on Tuesday, January 27. 1981 and there will be no services in Inglewood.
A native of New York where she was born on January 17, 1897, she had resided in California for the past 60 years and was in Kern County for five years. Catherine Fraga is survived by a sister Anna La Rock of Riverkern, California. She also leaves a very close friend, Mr. Jones Tarwater of Riverkern, Ca. Her entire adult life was spent as a housewife.

California for Agnes Anne Kuhns, age 70, of Wofford Heights, CA., who passed away at Santa Barbara Cot- tage Hospital, Santa Barbara, CA., on January 27, 1981. She was born in Ault, Colorado on March 18, 1910 and was a real estate broker most of her adult life.
The services were officiated by Reverend Fred Warren of Four Square Church with interment in Kern River Valley Cemetery In Wof- ford Heights, CA.
She is survived by her husband L. John Kuhns of Wofford Heights, sons Richard Kuhns of Santa Barbara, CA., and Robert Kuhns of Wofford Heights, CA., a brother James McEwen of Orum, Utah and a sister Dorothy Cutshaw of Denver, Colorado. There were five gran- dchildren and five great gran- dchildren.

A memorial service was held for Richard Allen Clark, age 19, of Weldon, California who died at Kern Medical Center, Bakersfield, CA., on January 26, 198), Services were held at the Valley Mortuary Chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 1981, of- ficlated by Reverend Don Roulsten of United Methodist Church of Weldon, CA.
Born in Foxboro, Massachusetts on April 20, 1961 he graduated from Los Alamitos High School in 1979. Since graduation he had worked as a walter for Denny's Restaurants in Los Angeles, California.
Richard Allen Clark is survived by his parents Richard and Ruth Clark of Weldon, CA., a brother James Clark who is currently in the U.S. Navy, three sisters Carrol of Fullerton, CA., Cynthia of Hawalian Gardens, CA., Linda of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Services were held Monday, January 19, at Mettleer Family Mortuary in Garden Grove, Calif ornia for Harold Allen Kron, who died January 15, 1981. Officiating at the services was Dr. Miles Acker. Kron was born December 19, 1954. He is survived by his mother, Margie Hawkins of Kernville, a sister, Merrilie Halman of Garden Grove, and a brother, John Baker of Colorado.
While living in the Kern River Valley Harold, better known as Hal. attended both Woodrow Wallace Elementary and Kern Valley High School.
MAUD S. GRIFFIN
Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday Feburary 9, 1981 in the Highland Chapel, United Methodist Church, Lake Isabella, for Maud S. Griffin, age 89, of Mt. Mesa, CA. who passed away at the Valley Convalescent Hospital, Bakersfield, CA. on February 5, 1981.
A native of Venango, Nebraska where she was born on Sept 11, 1891, she had been a medical
technician for the Nebraska Depar- tment of Health most of her adult life. She had resided in Kern County for 22 years and had been in California for 38 years.
Services were officiated by Pastor Donald Roulsten of United Methodist
Church. She is survived by a daughter, Alberta Peterson of Weldon.

Jess Irving Beaudreau
Memorial services for Jess Irving Beaudreau were held January 30 at Valley Mortuary Chapel.
Mr. Beaudreau was a WWI Navy veteran who crossed the Atlantic 17 times in convoy. He was retired from nearly 30 years of service with the Beverly Hills Fire Department.
Survivors include his beloved wife Pamela, and many nieces and nephews in the East.
He was born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin February 18, 1899. He was 81 years of age at the time of his death January 28 in Bakersfield.
James W. Brown
A resident of the Kern River Valley since 1974, James W. Brown of Onyx died February 2, 1981 at Kern Valley Hospital.
Born June 3, 1908, in Seymour, Iowa, he Is survived by his wife Dorothy M.G. Brown, mother Hazel Lee and a sister, of Rogue River, Oregon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, a stepdaughter and a step-grandson.
He served for six years with the 88th Observation squadron of the United States Army. Mr. Brown retired from Rockwell International's Aerospace Division in 1970.
No memorial services were held; arrangements were by Hillcrest Mor- tuary.

PAUL ERNEST KARGE Services were held Friday, February 13, 1981 at 2 p.m. Graveside in the Kern River Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights, CA., for Paul Ernest Karge, age 65, of Kernville, Ca. who passed away in the Kern River Valley Hospital on Feburary 11, 1981. Mr. Karge was born in Elgin, Illinois on June 19, 1915 and has lived in California for 30 years and in Kern County for 18 years. Most of his adult live he was an Inspector for the M&B Plating Company, Torrance, CA, and worked in the Kern River Valley as a bus driver at Woodrow Wallace School. He was a Veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army in HQ Com- pany of the Seventh Armored Division.
Reverand Donald Roulsten of the United Methodist Church officiated at Graveside in the Kern River Valley Cemetery. Mr. Karge is survived by his wife Rosa of Kernville and a brother George Volmer of Elgin, Illinois.

Services were held Friday. February 13, 1981 at 11:00 a.m. m the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, Ca., for George Alvin Lowry , age 67, of Woflord Heights, Ca., who passed away at Bakersfield Com munity Hospital on February 11, 1981.
Mr. Lowry was born in Jefferson, Texas on September 1, 1913 and had lived in California for 50 years an in Kern County for 30 years. Most of Ins adult life was spent as a pipefitter and he was a member of Local 250 in Gar- dena, Ca. He was a Veteran of WW li serving in the U.S. Army.
Reverend Donald Roulsten of the United Methodist Church officiated the services, and burial is in East Memorial Gardens, Texarkana. Arkansas. Mr. Lowry is survived by two uncles, Oval Morgason ut Texarkana, Arkansas and ZT. Morgason of Dallas, Texas; and a niece Marie Clark of Bloomfield, Ca.

BURNELL DIETRICH PROEHL
Services were held on Friday, February 20, 1981 at 1 p.m. at Graveside in the Kern River Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights, Calif- ornia, for Burnell Dietrich Proehl, age 65, of Bodfish, who passed away in the V.A. Medical center, Long Beach, on February 15, 1981. He was born in Paulina, Iowa on November 29, 1915, was a supply Supervisor of Photographic Materials for the U.S. Government most of his adult life and lived in Kern County 36 years and in California 38 years. He was a Veteral of WW II serving in the
U.S. Navy.
Pastor Tim Anderson of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Lake Isabella, officiating. Mr. Proehl is survived by his wife Virginia and a brother Henry 0. Proehl of Bradshaw, Nebraska, He was well known in Ridgecrest where he worked at China Lake Naval Weapons Center.

Joseph Henry Bournival
A memorial service was held on Thursday, February 19, 1981 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Judes Catholic Church, Wofford Heights, California, for Joseph Henry Bournival, age 68, of Lake Isabella, who passed away in Kern Valley Hospital on February 16, 1981. He was born in Manchester, New Hampshire on April 10, 1912 and worked as a welder at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard most of his adult life.
Father Mark Renner officiated the memorial service. Mr. Bournival is survived by his wife Florence, a son Robert of Santa Ana, and a daughter Pauline Brylowe of Lake Isabella.

ACCIDENT
Kernville Man Killed Tuesday
A Kernville man died at his home Tuesday night of gunshot wounds to the head following an argument, according to investigators from the Kern County sheriff's substation, Lake Isabella.
The victim, Melvin Glen Silva, 25, 43 Rogers Rd., Kernville, was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, Mar- ch 3, by sheriff's deputies who answered the call.
Suspect Horace William Deuel, 56, also living at 43 Rogers Rd., was arrested and charged with murder, according to the Kern County sheriff's substation report. Suspect Deuel was transported to the main jail in Bakersfield where he remains pending further investigation.
According to investigating officers, the two men lived together in the residence at 43 Rogers Rd. owned by Deuel. The shooting occured following an argument over a 12 gauge shotgun. Deuel, a former Orange County law officer, moved to the Kern Valley following his retirement.
Silva's occupation was unknown to the investigating officers. The vic- tim's parents, who live in the Los Angeles area, have been notified.
Sheriff's deputies involved in the investigation include Terry Thurman, Jim Grogan, Investigator Dave Cook, Sgt. Dennis Pensinger, Sgt. Norm Hylton and Dwight Pendelton.
Results of an autopsy by the Kern County Coroner's office are pending, according to Sgt. Norm Hylton.

Betty Robinson
Mrs. Betty Robinson, a long time resident of Kern River Valley, passed away February 22 in a Bakersfield Hospital.
She had moved from Los Angeles in 1937 with her husband, Vernon, and resided in old Isabella near Suhre's store.
After her husband's death in 1951 Mrs. Robinson had a small home bullt in Bodfish where she resided until the present time.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and was also a charter member of the Kawalisu chapter of the American Revolution of which her daughter, Dorothy Kirkwood, is Regent.

Isabella Man Killed In Two Car Accident
A two-car accident took the life of a 75 - year old Lake Isabella man Satur- day, February 28, according to the California Highway Patrol.
George Robert Beierle was turning onto Isabella Blvd. near the Kernvale Club when he collided with another vehicle driven by Velma May Allred, 63, Bodfish, according to the CHP report.
Beierle was taken to the Kern Valley Hospital where he later died. His wife, Lillian, who was a passenger In the car, was treated for minor injuries and released from Kern Valley Hospital.
Belerle's death brings this years total to three fatal collisions with
three people killed, compared to this time last year, when totals included two people killed.
On Friday, March 27 at 9:45 p.m. Carl Jones of Kernville was traveling northbound on Sierra Way near Rivernook Campground, when another vehicle, driven by Donna Carlton of Riverkern, crossed over the center line for unknown reasons.
Jones received minor injuries. His wife, Velva who was his passenger, suffered moderate injuries. Donna Carlton received only minor injuries after her car went off the road, turned over, and came to rest on Its top, ac- cording to CHP officials.
John Edward Wogomon
Services were held on Thursday, February 12, at 11 a.m. at the Rosedale Mortuary, Los Angeles, for John Edward Wogoman, age 76, of Paramount, CA, who died at the Kalser Hospital In Bellflower, CA, on February 9.
He was born in Elkhart, Indiana on May 6, 1904, and worked for over 30 years for General Motors in Maywood, CA, where he retired.
He Is survived by his wife Ethel Wogoman; sons Melvin Richard and Kenneth Eugene; daughter Susan Carole Harwell; seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, all of the Los Angeles area. He also leaves five brothers and two sisters.
He and his wife moved to Lake Isabella in 1969. They left the valley in the fall of 1980. He was a member of the 55-plus Club, Lake Isabella Bod- flsh Property Owners Association and the Road Runners Birthday club.
