Rosalie Benson Peterson


A memorial service was held Mon- day August 2 at 1:00 p.m. for Rosalie B. Peterson of Lake Isabelis. Mrs. Peterson passed away July 29 at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa. She is preceeded in death by her husband Harry deceased in 1941. She is sur- vived by her daughter Rosalie P. McMahan of Lake Isabella. Rosalie Peterson came to California at age 8. She grew up in the Los Angeles area and attended USC and college that was later to be known as UCLA. Upon graduation she taught elementary school in Los Angeles. At the outbreak of WW II, she entered government service as a civilian worker and ultimately retired in 1964 from Naval Weapons Center China Lake. In 1968 she moved to the Kern River Valley. Born May 14, 1886 in Dahlonega, Iowa, Rosalie Peteraon was 86 years of age. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


Herbert Ellous Kirby


A funeral service was held Aug. 5 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, for Herbert E. Kirby of Onyx. Officiating was Reverend Donald Roulsten Pastor of the Weldon United Methodist Church. Mr. Kirby passed away at his residence on the morning of August 2. He is preceeded in death by his wife Edna, deceased in 1981. He is survived by his daughter Hazel McEwein of Onyx; Nancy Nichools of Canebrake; Velma Pratt of Arizona; Barbara Grace of Redon- do Beach; Billle Kemp of San Bruno; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grand children. Born Nov. 14, 1899 at Neely's Landing, Cape County, Missouri, Herbert E. Kirby was 82 years of age. Interment at Inglewood Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

JAMES E. WILSON


James E. Wilson, 72, passed away Saturday, August 7 in Lancaster. Jim was a long time resident of Wofford Heights, a valley realtor and the first Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in Wofford Heights. Graveside Memorial Services will be held Friday, August 13 at 10:30 am at the Kern Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights, Jim was born October 7, 1910 in los Angeles.


He is survived by one sister Kathryn Seminario of Wofford Heights, two daughters, Eloise Weaver of Quartz Hill, California, and Phyllis Childers of Goodman, Missouri, one son, Robert Wilson of Quartz Hill, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren


In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made in Jim's name to the Elks Major Project for Crippled Children as Jim was very active in Elks functions for many years.


GEORGE RICHARD WILLIAMS


Private services were held for George Richard Williams who passed away at Long Beach Community Hospital July 23. Born March 9, 1927 in Trinidad Colorado, Mr. Williams was 55 years old .


He is survived by wife Dorothy of Midway City; son Michael, daughters Tammy Lynn Williams and Sandra Gene Ellis.


The Williams were residents of Kern River Valley from 1973 to 1977. During this time they owned and operated Dam Korner I in Lake Isabella.


Mr. Williams formed and presided as President of Kern Valley Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of Kern Valley Search and Rescue. Williams was a veteran of World War II and Korean Wars. He was retired from McDonald after 30 years. Arrangements by Teek Family Mortuary, Westminster.

Of- ficiating at the mass and at the rosary will be Monsignor Denis Doherty. Mr. Justice passed away Aug. 9 at Kaiser Hospital Panorama City. He Is aur. vived by his wife Alvera of Bodfish; daughter Carol Ann of Bodfish; sisters Alice Whitley of Ohio; Nella Goodall of Tennessee; Charlotte Hoover of Florida; Ruth Turner of Washington State; niece and nephew Laura and Dale Grusell of Baker- sfield; and eight grandchildren. Born February 13, 1913 in Delbarton, West Virginia, William H. Justice was 69 years of age. Interment at the Kern Valley cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


Orin Duane Brown


Orin D. Brown of Wofford Heights passed away at his residence August 7 after illness. He is survived by his wife Jeannie of Wofford Heights and by "Kemo," "Yank," and "The Bluebird." Mr. Brown was a pilot whose interest in aviation extends back to the 1940's. He was recently honored by a barbecue held in his behalf at the Kern Valley Airport. Born October 26, 1919 in Venice, Callfonria, Orin D. "Brownie" Brown was 62 years of age. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

A funeral service was held Monday Aug. 16 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Irene Reeves of Wofford Heights. Of- ficlating was Reverend Linda D. Inlow Pastor of the Highland Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Reeves passed away Aug. 11 in Bakersfield. She is preceeded in death by her son F. David Reeves and Ls survived by her husband Forney A. Reeves of Wofford Heights.


Mrs. Reeves was employed in the newspaper industry before moving to the Kern River Valley and worked for the classified departments of the San- ta Monica Outlook and the Glendale New-Press. Born November 25, 1915 in Carnegie, Allegheny County, Pen- nsylvania, Irene Reeves was 66 years of age. Interment at Valhalla Memorial Park Burbank. MALCOLM S. BIXBY


A graveside funeral service was held August 23 at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Malcolm S. Bix- by of Larson Tract. Officiating was Reverend Rob Langguth, pastor of the Kernville United Methodist Church. Mr. Bixby passed away after being stricken at home on the morning of August 21.


He is survived by his wife Ruby of Larson Tract, Weldon; mother Peggy Irvin of Bakersfield; daughter Susan; three grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; two nephews and one niece. Born June 19, 1910 in Salisbury, North Carolina, Malcolm Bixby was 72 years of age. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


CHESTER LEE "CHET" DUNLAP


Chester L. Dunlap of Las Vegas passed away August 11, the victim of a vehicle accident on Highway 95 near Mercury, Nevada. Chet Dunlap was a former resident of the Kern River Valley. Graveside funeral services were conducted at the Kern River Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights, where Chet Dunlap was laid to rest next to his father Robert Dunlap, deceased in 1975.


Mr. Dunlap is survived by his daughters Judy and Jan of Oregon; Lorrie of Utah; son Ronnie of Oklahoma and his friend Pat Whitley of Las Vegas and her family. At the time of his death, Chet Dunlap as an operating engineer em- ployed at the Nevada Test Site near Mercury. Born May 28, 1931 in Moberly, Missouri, Chester Lee Dunlap was 51 years of age. William Forrest "Bill" Decker


A funeral service was held Tuesday August 31, at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, for William F. "Bill" Decker of Lake Isabella. Of- ficiating were officers of the Kern River Valley Elks Lodge No. 2358. Mr. Decker passed away August 28 at San Joaquin Community Hospital, Baker- afleid.


He is survived by his wife Rosemary of Lake Isabella; daughter De Ann Packman of Norwalk; sons Michael of Fullerton; Mitchell of Anaheim; brothers Charles Decker of Downey, California, and Hugh Decker of Lake Isabella; sister Frances Toland of Lake Isabella, and one Granddaughter.


Bill Decker was retired from Mc- Donnell-Douglas Corp. and was a member of Elks Lodge No. 2358 and KRV Moose Lodge No. 198.


Born May 26, 1916 in Coles County, Illinois, Bill Decker was 66 years of age. Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

A graveside funeral service was held at the Kern River Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights, for Lucy Milligan of Larsen Tract Southlake. Officiating was Reverend Bob Langguth, Pastor of the Kernville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Milligan passed away August 30 at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa.


She is survived by her husband Franklin D. Milligan of Larsen Tract; sister Mary Daniels of Florida, brother Anthony Hoelitzli of Buffalo, New York and Niece Antonia Dem- pster of Geneva, New York. Mr. and Mrs. Milligan were owners of restaurants In the Long Beach, Bellflower, Hawalian Gardens area for 30 years before moving to the Kern River Valley 13 years ago.


Born June 5, 1886, in Meriden, New Haven County, Connecticut, Lucy Milligan was 88 years of age. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Lawrence Weade Sherwood


A funeral service was held at the Valley Mortuary Chapel on Wed- nesday Sept. 8 for Lawrence W. Sher- wood of Lake Isabella. Officiating were officers of Kern River Valley Masonic Lodge No. 827 of which Mr. Sherwood was a charter member.


Mr. Sherwood passed away at bis residence in Lake Isabella Sept. 5 He is preceeded in death by his first wife Elsie A. Sherwood deceased in 1955.


He is survived by his wife Lou Ellen of Lake Isabella; son Loyd Sherwood of Newport Beach; stepson Richard See of San Diego; daughters Madeline Wilson of Paradise, California; An- nette Edwards also of Paradise; step- daughter Evelyn Lanza of Lake Isabella; twenty one grandchildren and airteen great-grandchildren.


Mr. Sherwood apent most of his life as a rancher and nurseryman in Fullerton. He was a past master of the Temescal Masonic Lodge No. 314 of Corona, California.


Born June 11, 1894 in Riverside, Californ ia, Lawrence Sherwood bad resided in the Kern River Valley for the past 20 years and was 88 years of age at the time of his death.

Joshua Wayne Chesnut


A graveside funeral service was conducted at the Kern River Valley Cemetery on Thursday Sept. 9 for in- fant Joshua Wayne Chesnut. Of- ficiating was Pastor Russell Wolfe of the East Bakersfield Nazarene Chur- ch.


Baby Joshua passed away at the Kern Medical Center, Bakersfield on Sept. 2. He is survived by his parents Randy and Linda Kay Chesnut of Lake Isabella; grandparents George and Ione Chesnut also of Lake Isabella and sister Jennifer. Born Aug. 2, 1982 in Bakersfield.

Cass John Burton


Cass John Burton of Wofford Heights passed away at his residence on Sept. 4. He is survived by his wife Doris of Wofford Heights; daughter Alice Connealy of Kernville and gran- dson Raymon Adams with the U.S. Marine Corps stationed In Tustin; and one alster Myrtle Fox of Lawndale, California.


Mr. Burton was retired from North American avalation and had lived in the Kern River Valley for 10 months. Born Dec. 23, 1909 in Oriens, Nebraska, Cass John Burton was 72 years of age.

Graveside service was held at Kern River Valley Cemetery Wofford Heights Tuesday Sept. 7 for Ralph M. Jackson of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Reverend Dave Snow Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella.


Jackaon passed away at his residence Sept. 2 in Lake Isabella. He is survived by his wife Margaret; sons Merle of Oak Creek, Colo .; Norbert of Crawford, Colo .; Roger of Mt. Mesa; daughtera Georgia Pollak of San Jose; Ethel Huffman of Yuba City; Charlene Richardson of Ceres, California; June Austin of Capistrano Beach; Marjorie Maples of San Mar- cos; Marilee Werner of Norwalk; sisters Iva Cotton of Eugene, Oregon; Marie Melee of San Bernardino; 22 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.

Christina Sene "Chris" Burlando


A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16 graveside at the Old Kern River Valley cemetery, Wofford Heights for Chris Burlando of Kernville. Officiating will be Reverend Rob Langguth, Pastor of the Kernville United Methodist Chur- ch. Mrs. Burlando passed away at the Antelope Valley Hospital Sept. 12 in Lancaster.


She is survived by her husband John of Kernville; slater in law Betsy Burlando of Kernville; brother in law Bill Burlando of Kernville; cousins Archie and Joyce Logston of Kernville and cousin Stan Logston of Needles near Mohave Valley, Arizona.


Chris Burlando moved to the Kern River Valley from Saugus in 1913. Sbe loved animals and raised cattle and quarter horses. In 1946 she married John Burlando, together they operated the Burlando Ranch in Ker- nville. Chris worked cattle, drove farm equipment and heavy trucks and cooked on roundups. She was the first person to import nursery plants to the Kern River Valley and this led to the beginning of the Burlando Nursery. Born July 26, 1908 in San Bernardino County, California, Chris Burlando was 74 year_ of age.

Martha Ellen Hackman


Services were held Monday for Martha Ellen Hackman, 68, who passed away September 8 at City of Hope. Martha was born August 24, 1914 in Los Angeles and realded the past seven years in Wofford Heights. Prior to that ahe resided in Trona for 42 years and was buried in Rand District Cemetery in Johannesburg, Callfornia. Rev. Glen Walker prealded with VFW rites by Trona Ladies Auxiliary of which Martha was past president.


Mrs. Hackman is survived by her husband Gleason J. Hackman of Wof- ford Helghts; two sons John and Roy Hackman, both of California; one brother, Howard Gill of Los Angeles; three sisters, Hazel Jorn, Alice Ginens and Louise Goodman, all of California, and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Josephine A. Harnage of Lake Isabella; sons Janes Hall Harnage Jr. of Newport Beach; Thomas David Harnage of Lake Forest, CA; five grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. James Hall Harnage was a Mason for more than 56 yearsfirst joining the Masonic Order in 1925 at Lodge No. 255 Talala, Oklahoma. Mr. Harnage was also a member of Beverly Hills Lodge No. 528, the Scottish Rite and the Shrine. Jim Harnage served as a police of- ficer for much of his adult life with the Beverly Hills, California Police Dept. Born Jan. 10, 1902 in Talala, Oklahoma, James H. Harnage was 80 years of age. Charles Dave Singleton


A memorial service was held at the Valley Mortuary Chapel September 27 for Charles Dave Singleton of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Reverend Dave Snow, Pastor of the First Bap- tist Church of Lake Isabella.


Mr. Singleton passed away sud- denly Sept. 24 in Kernville. He is our- vived by his wife Kathryn of Lake Isabella; son Jack of Maryland; daughter Betty Taggart of Torrance; brothers Roy and Guy Singleton of California; step-alster Dorothy Boyle also living in California; Aunt Virginia Lodge of La Canada and three grandchildren.


Born August 18, 1916 in Los Angeles, California, the son of Dave and Ethel Singleton of Texas, Charles D. Singleton was 66 years of age. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella. Interment of ashes at Inglewood Park cemetery, Inglewood, CA.

Roy Lee Wheeler


Masonic rites were ·conducted graveside Tuesday, September 28 at Kern River Valley Cemetery for Roy Lee Wheeler, 65, of Trona, who passed away September 25.


Born October 3, 1916 in Fort Worth, Texas, Mr. Wheeler lived in Trona for the past 43 years. He retired from Kerr-McGee in 1975 after an em- ployment term of 36 years.


Mr. Wheeler served in World War II in the United States Navy.


Survivors include his wife Florence of Trona; son Roy of Lake Isabella; daughter Monica Carrasco of Ridgecrest; two half-brothers Johh Rich of Trona and Bill Lewis of Ridgecrest. Mr. Wheeler is also sur- vived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at Hillcrest Mortuary, Bakersfield Sept. 27 for Helen Hight of Wofford Heights. Officiating at the graveside service was Rev. Frye of Bakersfield. Mrs. Hight passed away Sept. 24 at Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa after a short Illness.


Som Aug. 6, 1914 in Enin, Okia .. Helen Hight was 68 years of age. She was owner, proprietor of Helen's Gift and Beauty Shop for the past 32 years and was post mistress for 22 years. She was preceeded in death by ber husband Merrill Hight four months ago.

Mrs. Spangler passed away at her residence in Onyx in the early morning of Oct. 3. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Walter Spangler of Onyx; daughters Kay Mersereau of West- port, Connecticut; Mary Lee Dair of Tokyo, Japan and three grand- children. Mrs. Spangler was a member of Shin Chapter of the Order of the Golden Slipper (a Masonic home club); a member of the Nobelet- tes (of the Shrine). Michael was the victim of a highway accident on State Route 178 between Lake Isabella and Paradise Cove, Oc- tober 3.

Benjamin Saunders Kerr


A funeral service was held October 12 at the Masonic Temple in Kernville for Ben S. Kerr of Lake Isabella. Of- ficiating was KRV Masonic Lodge 827. Mr. Kerr passed away Oct. 10 at Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa.


He is survived by his wife Rita of Lake Isabella, sister Ophelia Kerr of Lake Isabella and sister in law Ida Kerr also of Lake Isabella. Ben Kerr was an Army Veterans of WW I wbo was wounded in combat in France and received the Purple Heart.


Ben Kerr was a member of Garvan- za Masonic Lodge No. 192 and bad lived in Lake Isabella since 1965, born Oct. 10, 1900 in Murphysboro, Ilinols, Ben S. Kerr was 82 years of age.


Interment at the Kern River Valley cemetery, arrangements by Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.

William Lee Kissack


Born June 16, 1942 in Bakersfield, William Lee Kissack passed away Oc- tober 18, 1982 in & Bakersfield Hospital.


He graduated from Kern Valley High School in 1960 and attended Bakersfield College and Fresno State.


In 1982 he married Lynda Kibbe from Delano. They are the parents of 3 children; Scott, Dristene, and Kim- berly.


He was associated with his father, William W. Kissack, In ranching and construction, and was a member of Highland Chapel United Methodist Church.


In addition to his children and wife. Mr. Kissack Is survived by 2 sisters; Carolyn Kissack Hancock of Bolse, Idaho and Linda Elaine Kimsack of Mt. Mesa; his parents William and Grace Kissack of Mt. Mesa, and his parents-in-law; Irvin and Bes Kibbe, of Mt. Mesa.


In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship fund is being established at Kern Valley High School. Coo- tributions may be made to the High School in care of Mr. Bruce Farmer, vice principal.


A memorial service will be bald Thursday, October 21, 1982 at 1 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella. Conducting the service will be Rav. Linda Inlow, minister of Highland Chapel, and Rev. Don Rouisten, minister of Weldon United Methodist Church.

Clare Lavera Robertson


A funeral service was held at the Chapel of the Quisenberry Funeral Home Tonganoxie, Kansas on Satur- day Oct. 23 for Clare L. Robertson of Lake Isabella. Offiating was Dennis McKee Pastor of the Broad-Christian Church of Wichita. Mrs. Robertson passed away Oct. 19 at the Colonial Convalescent Hospital Bakersfield.
