James Valentino


Funeral Mass was held Jan. 5 at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Wofford Heights for James Valentino of Southlake who passed away Dec. 30 at the Kern Valley Hospital, officiating the Mass and Rosary held Monday evening was Monsignor Denis J. Doherty.


Mr. Valentino is survived by his wife Anna of Southlake Estates; son James Valentino, Jr. of Houston, Texas; brother Anthony Valentino of New York and sister and brother-in- law Stella and Frank Mizerik of Lake Isabella; sisters Sylvia Nullet, Rose Morrison, and Josephine Allen all of New York. There are three gran- dchildren.


Born in the Borough of Manhattan, City of New York, State of New York, May 10, 1906, James Valentino was 75 years of age.

Evelyn Amanda Miller


Evelyn Amanda Miller of Baldwin Park, California died December 31, 1981, a former resident of Kernville. Survived by daughter, Martha Rose Shafer of Covina, California.


Graveside Services were held Tuesday, January 5, 1981 at the Ker- nville Cemetery, Kernville.

Albert Pearson Fikel


A funeral service was held Wed- nesday January 13 at Valley Mor- tuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Albert P. Fikel of Wofford Heights. Of- ficating were officers of the Kern River Valley Elks Lodge. Mr. Fikel was stricken at home and was deciared dead on arrival at the Kern Valley Hospital in the early evening of January 10.


He is survived by his wife Ellyn of Wofford Heights; a daughter Donna of Tuscon; one Grandson Jerry Fikel lives in Lakewood.


Albert Fikel was a Charter Member and founder of the Kern River Valley Elks Lodge; a Charter Member of the Kern River Valley Masonic Lodge. Albert Fikel served in the U.S. Navy during WW I and was a member of the WW I Barracks ot the Kern River Valley.


Born In Portland, Indiana March 11. 1897 Al Fikel was 84 years of age. In- terment at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

A funeral Mass was held Monday Jan. 11, 1982 at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Wofford Heights for Harold E. Obenland ol Tradewinds Tract, Weldon. Monsignor Denis J. Doherty officiated.


Mr. Obenland passed away January 6 at the Kern Valley Hospital. He is survived by his wife Myrtle of Tradewinds; daughters Cecilia Backus of Phelan, California and Laurie Silvus of Anaheim; one son Michael of Los Angeles and five Grandchildren.


Born in Birmingham, Alabama July 3rd, 1905, Harold Obenland was 76 years of age. Interment at the Kern River Valley cemetery Arrangemen- ts by Valley Mortuary.

Ben B. White of Kernville passed away Jan. 10 at the Kern Valley hospital, Mt. Mesa. Mr. White is sur- vived by his daughter Mrs. Jane Gen- try of Caledonia, Michigan; a sister Lucy Dunlap of Suitan, Washington; a niece Elda Gossler of Hoquiam, Washington and two grandchildren.


Born in Granite Falls, Minnesota. July 31, 1897 Burton (Ben) B. White was 84 years of age. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Burial services were held in Norco, California, January 11 for Jeff D. Aldridge who died January 7 in River- sıde.


Born in Arkansas, January 29, 1904, Aldridge was 77 years old.


Aldridge is survived by his wife Ethel of Mt. Mesa. Brothers Novell Malcolm of Kernville; BIII Aldridge and David Aldridge of Orange. California. He leaves two sisters, Lydell Maxwell, of Oklahoma and Shirley Frazier of Riverside as well as 26 grandchildren and 15 great gran- dchildren.


Aldridge was known to his many friends and fellow worshipers at the Church of Christ in Lake Isabella, as well as to his C.B. friends who knew him as "Cherokee."

Robert Leroy Hearn


Full Military rites were held Friday January 15 at 2 p.m. at the Mish Funeral Home, Shafter for Robert Leroy Hearns, 63, Bella Vista Tract, Lake Isabella, who died January 12 at Kern Valley Hospital.


Rev. Ken Mitchel lead the congregation in Christian services, and the military added the Color Guard and Firing Squad at the graveside rites in Shafter Cemetery.


Born August 21, 1918 in Oklahoma, Mr. Hearn lived in California and was a truck driver for over 35 years. He was last affiliated with the Shippers Transit Transportation Co. Hearn was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He received his education in Oklahoma, prior to entering the ser- vices.


Survivors include his wife Jessie Jewell Hearn of Lake laabella. Brother William of Oildale, James of Weldon, Bill of Mentone and Richard of San Luis Obispo. Sisters are' Rosa Jackson of Henrietta, Texas; Maggie Radford of Pinedale, Bertie Osborn of Shafter, Velma Gladen of Roseburg, Oregon and Nancy Neal of Colorado City, Colorado. Mr. Hearn had several nieces and nephews.

Ellyn Irene Fikel


A memorial service was held Wed- nesday Jan. 20 at Valley Mortuary Chapel Lake Isabella for Ellyn Fikel of Wofford Heights.


Officiating was Reverend Dave Snow Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella and Women of the Moose Lodge No. 498 Lake Isabella.


Mrs. Fikel passed away January 17 at Kern Valley hospital, Mt. Mesa. She is preceeded in death by her husband Albert P. Fikel who passed away January 10th, 1982.


Survivors include one son Al Ed- wards of Medford, Oregon; grandsons Michael and Gary Edwards and one great-granddaughter Dawn.


Ellyn Fikel has two brothers, Earl Neeley of Wofford Heights and Clinton Neeley of Medford, Oregon, sisters Lucille Welch of Nevada and Loretta Shoup of Medford.


Ellyn Fikel was a member of the ladies of the Elks and Women of the Moose. Born in Texhoma, Oklahoma May 23, 1907, Ellyn Fikel was 74 years of age.

He is survived by his wife Karen and two sons Jonathan and Joseph of Bodfish; mother and father Mrs. Lourain Lindsay of Wofford Helghts and Mr. James Wallace of Houston, Texas; three sisters Claudia Lyman of Bournte, Texas; Linda Carnathan of Bodfish and Mary Murray of Wof- ford Heights. Officiating at the mass and at graveside services was Monsignor Denis J. Doherty. Mr. Keating passed away January 11 at the home in Walker Basin. He is survived by his parents Mr. & Mrs. Thomas H. Keating, Sr. of Bal Harbour, Florida; daughter Linda of Detroit; brothers Walter of Detroit and Don of Kinston, North Carolina.

Bill Wettig of Wofford Heights passed away January 24, 1982. Born in New Albany, Indiana on January 23, 1905 he is survived by his wife Estella Wettig. A graveside funeral service was held January 30 at the Kern River Valley cemetery, Wofford Heights for Edward S. Baskins of Bodfish. Reverend Linda Inlow Pastor of the United Methodist Church Highland Chapel, Lake Isabella, officiated. Mr. Baskins passed away January 26 at his residence in Bodfish. He is survived by his son Ronald of Tujunga; daughter Marilyn of Los Alamitos; three brothers, Elmer of Lomita, Bill of Santa Monica, Esla of Long Beach; a twin sister, Edna Shriner also lives in Long Beach; one grandchild and five great grand children.

John Bruce Jones


A graveside funeral service was held Saturday Feb. 13 at Westminster Memorial Park, Westminster, California for John B. Jones of Lake Isabella. Mr. Jones passed away Feb. 12 at the Kern Valley Hospital.


Officiating at the services was the Lutheran Ministry of Santa Ana, California. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife Alta of Lake Isabella, daughter Helen May Warner of Mission Viejo, son Robert Lee Jones of Santa Ana and four grandchildren.


Mr. Jones was retired after 37 years of service with the Shell Oil Co. Refinery in Dominguez, California. Born in Laurel County, Kentucky Nov. 7, 1899, John B. Jones was 82 years of age.

Woodrow Wilson "Woody" Doremus


A funeral service was held at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella February 14, for Woodrow W. "Woody" Doremus of Lake Isabella. Officlating was the Reverend Elmon G. Edwards Pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church, Ouldale.


Mr. Doremus passed away Feb. 14 at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa. He was a member of the El Segundo Rod & Gun Club. The Moose and the Kern Valley Sheriff's Search and Rescue where he held the position of lieutenant.


Woody came to Kern County in 1930 and was a farmer in the Old River area until his retirement in 1975.


He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; sisters, Millie Bichner of Lake Isabella, Van Ness Mullins of Los Gatos and Ella Webster of Cof- feeville, Kansas; Brother Ed of Palmdale; sons, Jack and Charles of Bakersfield; step-sons, Bill Mead of Caraon, Sam Mead of Taft and Mike Mead of Bakersfield; 10 gran- dchildren and one great grandchild.


Born Sept. 17, 1912 in Batesville, Arkansas, son of Frank and Ada Belle Sade Doremus, Woody Doremus was 69 years of age.

Mrs. Young passed away February 16 in Bakersfield. She is survived by her husband Harold of Kernville, son Ronald of Kernville, three sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Saturday February 20 at Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, for Clyde M. Shain; officiating was Reverend Rob Langguth Pastor of the United Methodist Church, Kernville. Mr. Shain passed away February 16 at home In Lake Isabella.

Earl E. Dunn, 59 of Lake Isabella died February 8 in his home at Moun- tain View Trailer Park.


Born in Chili, Indiana, October 8, 1922, Dunn was a newer resident to Kern River Valley, having lived in the area only one year.


Dunn is survived by a son David, a daughter Barbara Durdocher, Houston, Texas and three gran- dchildren. Dunn also leaves a brother John and sister Betty both of Peru, Indiana.


Dunn lived an active life and served as Director of ARC, for over 14 years.

A memorial service was held at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Howard W. Jones of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Monsignor Denis Doherty of St. Jude's Catholic Church, Wofford Heights. Mr. Jones passed away February 16 at the Kern Valley Hospital Mt. Mesa.


He is survived by hia brother Don- ton Jones of Loveland, Colorado and niece Lois Brown of Kernville. Born August 2, 1912 in Nebraska, Howard W. Jones was 69 years of age.

Drobatz was a WW II Army Veteran and a retired los Angeles police of- ficer. Most recently he served as but- cher at the Mt. Mesa Market. Andrew Drobalz was born Jan. 10 1916 in los Angeles, California and passed away Feb. 23, 1982 in Lake Isabella, at the age of 66 years.

Mary Marie Miles of Lake Isabella passed away March 21 at Mercy Hospital Bakersfield.


She is survived by her sister Irene Kuder of Lake Isabella and one brother Isaac A. Stewart of Arizona. Mrs. Miles is preceeded in death by her husband Walter Miles who passed away in 1973.

Services were held Saturday, March 6 at St. Peter Claver Church, Simi Valley for Marie Gibson, Lake Isabella, who died March 3 after a brief illness. Marie was 74 years of age.


Mrs. Gibson was born October 23, 1907 in Madison, Wisconsin, She lived in Lake Isabella for the past 15 years. Gibson is survived by her husband, Bill of Lake Isabella, a daughter Carolyn Kaltenback, Ventura,


brothers Frank Dotti, Oceanside, Ben Dotti, Seal Beach and Roman Dotti of Silver Springs, Florida. Mrs. Gibson also leaves five grandchildren.

Services were held Wednesday March 10 at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Mor- tuary Chapel for Lottie Helms, By, who passed away March 5 in Onyx. Reverend E.F. (Bud) Fry officiated.


Mrs. Helms Is survived by her husband Cleo, of Onyx, two sons Larry and Murray also of Onyx; two daughters Donna Scott, Corona and Jenna Lee Sims of Costa Mesa. Helms also leaves 17 grandchildren and y great grandchildren.

Mr. Briggs passed away March 17 in Bakersfield He is survived by his wite Mary June Briggs of Wottord Heights, son Robert Briggs of Los Alamitos, daughter Dianne Deming ot Vacaville and five grandchildren.


Bud Briggs was a member of KRV E'iks Lodge No. 2358 and was an Elk tor 25 years. He was also a charter member of the Douglas El Segundo Kod and Gun club, a past Noble Grand of Oddfellows lodge No. 439 of lowa, a member of the Good Sam Happy Hobo trailer group and a member of the United Methodist Church ot Kernville.

He is survived by his wife Clarice. daughter Cheryl Dennison of Lake Isabella, Marilyn Hall of Carson, son Daryl of Palmdale, brother Guy Hun- ter of Phoenix, sisters Ruth of towa and Lorna McNalley of Reno and five grandchildren.

A funeral service was held graveside at the Kern River Valley cemetery on March 18, for Charles 0. Willanson of Kernville. Mr. Lowell Leuck officiated. Williamson passed away March 15, He is survived by his wife Merilyn of Kernville, sons John of Kernville. Richard serving with the Navy in Adak, Alaska and Charles of Wilhts, CA. One sister Elizabeth Thrall resides in Point Arena, California. Mr. Williamson had one grandchild. Charles Williamson was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy and had been a district manager with Pacific Telephone company. Born in Stockton, California Jan.7 1925 Charles Williamson was 57 years of age. Arrangements by Valley Mor- tuary.


HARVEY MOFFETT HOTCHKISS


A funeral service was held March 19, at the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Harvey M. Hotchkiss of Weldon. Mr. Hotchkiss passed away March 15 in Mt. Mesa. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7665 officiated at the chapel service and at the graveside. Mr. Hotchkiss is survived by his wife Ardene of Weldon, one son Har- vey of Irvine, sisters Flora Hossfeld of Secorro, N.M., Mabel Jenkins of Redding, brothers Roe and George both of Kansas and three gradchildren. Born in Fort Scott, Kansas June 8, 1919, Harvey M. Hotchkiss was 62 years of age. Interment at the Kern River Valley cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Bula Lynn Howes


Intermient will be held in Dos Palos. California for Bula Lynn Howes, 77 of Oklahoma who died March 18. Cremation was conducted in Spokane Washington last week.


Born July 17. 1904 in Stigler. Oklahoma. Howes was a resident of Wofford Heights and Onyx during the 1960's.


Howes is survived by her daughter Vera Woods, of Bovill, Oklahoma; a son Joe Howes Jr of Ramona. California. a brother George Lynn of Wofford Heights: four grandchildren and six great grandchildren


Frank E. Kaufmann


A funeral service was held Wed- nesday March 31 by the Gates Kingsley Gates Mortuary, Arizona Avenue Santa Monica. for Frank F .. Kaufmann of Bodfish


Mr. Kaufmann passed away at his residence on the morning of March 28.


He is survived by his daughter Susan Victorine of Bodfish. Born in Indiana June 10, 1910, Frank Kauf- mann was 71 years of age

Craige C. Skinner of Lake Isabella passed away March 29 at the Kern Valley hospital, Mt. Mesa. He is sur- vived by his wife Gladys of Lake Isabella, sons Robert and Thomas.


Mr Skinner was a WW II Army Veteran and a member of KRV Moose L.odgo No 498


Born January 5, 1913 in Des Moines. Iowa, Craige Skinner was 69 years of age. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary.
