She is survived by her daughter Frances Sinks of Lake Isabella; sister Marie Smith of Topeka Kansas; son Donald Robertson also of Topeka, gr- andaughter Diana Mckee of Wichita and great-granddaughter Bree McKee of Wichita. Mra. Robertson's late husband Lee passed away in 1942. Clare Robertson attended the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella and was a member of the Tonganoxie (Kansaa) Christian Church.


Clare Robertson was active in Christian work in Tonganoxie and raised three children there after the death of her husband without receiving public assistance of any sort. During WW Il Clare worked at the hazardous task of explosivea packer for the Hercules Powder Com- pany. She was an active member of the Rebekah's in Kansas and was honored recently by the president of the United States upon reaching her 99th birthday.


Born June 17, 1883 in Lamont, Kan- sas, the oldest daughter of the 14 children of Jake and Frances Peters, Clare L. Robertson was 99 years young. Interment at the Hubble Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie, Kansas. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.

Funeral services were held at Eter- nal Valley Memorial Park and Mor- tuary on October 18, 1982 for Lulu F. Jones, who passed away at home in Longview, Lake Isabella.


She was born May 28, 1902 in Hart County, Kentucky. She is survived by a. daughter, Irene Francom of Longview, a sister Stella Jackman of Laramie, Wyoming, and a brother Oliver Hodges of Louisvilla, Ken- tucky, sister Dora Hodges. Three grandchildren, Barbara D. Flynn, Donna M. Kaminsky, and Jimmie R. Logadon, all of Littlerock, Cal. Ten great grandchildren and one great, great, grandchild. Nieces and nephews in Oregon, Oklahoma, Ken- tucky and Cal. Interment at Garden of Memory, Eternal Valley Memorial Park.


Rose Smith


We regret to announce the passing of the wife of Al Smith, Sr. Citizens Representative for the Kern River Valley. Rose Estelle Smith passed away Oct. 7th, 1982. Graveside aer- vices were held at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Bakersfield on Oct. 11. She is survived by her husband, Al Smith, 2 daughters in Bakersfield, one grand-daughter, her mother and brother.

Lucille E. Baxter


A memorial service was held at the Lake Isabella Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's witnesses for Lucille Edna Baxter of Bodfish. Mrs. Baxter passed away Nov. 2 at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa.


She is survived by her husband Jim Baxter of Bodfish. Born March 19, 1906 in Ohio, Lucille E. Baxter was 76 years of age.

Powell Tate


Powell Tate of Lake Isabella, for. merly a resident of Morro Bay, passed away Nov. 3 at Greater Baker- sfield Memorial Hospital.


He is survived by his sister and brother in law Annie and Dave Loyd of Lake Isabella; brothers Harold Tate of Los Angeles and Hardy Tate of Sun City.


Powell Tate was a veteran of the U.S. Army who fought in France during WW I. He was also involved to the founding of the American Legion.


Born Jan. 28, 1893 in Calloway Coun- ty Missouri, Powell Tate was 89 years of age. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


Vincent C. Ryan


A funeral mass was held at St. Helen's Catholic Church in South Gate for Vincent Cornelius Ryan of Wofford Heights. Mr. Ryan passed away Nov. 6 at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield.


He is aurvived by his wife Betty of Wofford Heights; sisters Veronica Trinajestich of Wofford Heights; Evelyn Bishop of Arizona; Marianne Ryan of Arizona; and Winnifred Dahlgren of Blythe.


Mr. Ryan served in the U.S. Navy aboard the battleship Arizona before the sinking of that ship at Pearl Har- bor. He was retired from Civil Service for the U.S. Navy at Terminal Island, California.


Born Dec. 22, 1909 in Omaha, Nebraska. Vincent C. Ryan was 72 years of age. Interinent at All Souls Cemetery, Long Beach.

Paul L. Cook


A funeral will be held Saturday Nov. 13, 2:00 p.m. at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Paul Laverne Cook of Lake Isabella. Of- ficiating will be Rev. Dave Snow Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Lake Isabella.


Mr. Cook passed away at Mercy Hospital Bakersfield Nov. 8. He is survived by his wife Martha Ann of Lake Isabella; sons Ralph, Jimmy Lee and David all of Illinois; stepson Verlan Morgan of Orange; step- daughter Wava Nelson of Huntington Beach; niece Frances Hunt of Bellflower and three grandchildren.


Mr. Cook was a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II who served in combat in the Phillipine Islands. Born July 14, 1919 in Murphysboro, Illinois, Paul L. Cook was 63 years of age

Funeral services for Burel Mulkey, 78, Lake Isabella, were held today, November 24, 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lake Isabella.


Reverand Donald Roulston, paator of Weldon United Methodist Church, officiated.


Burel passed away at his home Saturday, Nov. 20 following a long

illness. A long-time resident and for- mer World Champion bronc rider, Mulkey was born May 25, 1904, un Clyde, Idaho. He made his home in Salmon, Idaho, until he began his rodeo career.


Burei was the 1937-38 World Cham- pion Bronc rider and the 1938 All- Around World Champion Cowboy. He will be remembered as one of the


greatest all tune bronc riders. He was inducted uito the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City in 1965 and into the Kern County Bob Elias Hall of Farne In 1970.


Mulkey retired from the rodeo scene some 40 years ago. He became a rancher and cattleman in the Lake Isabella area. He was employed by the Department of Agriculture as a brand inspector in the mountain areas. Mulkey was last employed by William Joughin, area cattleman and labr! develop.


Burel is survived by his wife, Mer- hle, daughter and son-in-law, Myrna and David Sweeney and one gran- ddaughter, Natalie Sweeney, all of Lake Isabella; two sisters, Edith Diven and Maude Robbins, Boise, Idaho, ano several nieces and nephews


Pall bearers were John Wofford, Bill Joughin, Glen Alexander, John McNally, Dale Creighton and Bruce Hafenfeld

Of- ficiating was Reverend Timothy An- derson Pastor of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Lake Isabella. Chambers passed away Nov. 9 at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Nesa. He is survived by his wife Denise and daughter Misty of Southlake; parents Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Chambers also of Southlake; sister Barbara Ann Helbert of Lakewood and brother A.L. Chambers of La Verne.


Freddy Chambers was a veteran of the United States Air Force who ser- ved during the Vietnam conflict. Born October 3, 1947 in Compton, California Freddy Wayne Chambers was 35 years of age.

A memorial service was held Mon- day Nov. 15, at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Joe Lighthizer of Lake Isabella. Of- ficiating wes Reverend Rob Langguth Pastor of the Kernville United Methodist Church.


Mr. Lighthizer passed away Nov. 10 at the Kern Medical Center, Baker- sfield. He is surlved by his wife Honey of Lake Isabella; son Craig of Tujunga; daughter Nancy Heck of Benicia and four grandchildren. Joe Lighthizer was a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II who was involved in the preparation and performance of U.S.O. shows for American troops. He was a professional vocalist who enter- tained in the New York area for several years. Mr. Lighthizer was past commander of American Legion Post 377 of Sunland-Tujunga. He was a member of the Kern River Valley Moose and the Eagles.


Born April 30, 1917 in Canton, Ohio, Joseph E. Lighthizer was 85 years of age. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Harold Roy Cook


A funeral service was held Nov. 20 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, for Harold R. Cook of Wof- ford Heights. Officiating were officers of Kern River Valley Elks Lodge No. 2358. Mr. Cook passed away Nov. 17 at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield.


He is survived by his wife Carol, of Wofford Helghts; son Donald of Mammoth Lakes; and cousins Orri and Everette Beale of Davenport, lowa.


Mr. Cook had resided in California since 1941 and had lived in the Kern River Valley for the past 20 years. Before retirement he had been an auto mechanic. He was a member of KRV Elks Lodge No. 2358 and the Kernville Lions Club


Born August 4, 1914, in Union Coun- ty, lowa, and raised in Creston, Iowa, Harold R. Cook was 68 years of age. Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery.

Louise Dunning of Lake Isabella passed away Nov. 18 at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa. She is sur- vived by her husband, Clifton of Lake Isabella; son Bill Merriam of Upland and two granddaughters.


Born Oct. 30, 1907, in Rutharford County, North Carolina, Mary Louise Dunning was 75 years of age.

Earl Frederick Bixler, Jr.


A memorial service was held at the Kern River Valley Masonic Temple, Kernville, for Earl F. Bizler, Jr. of Squirrel Valley. Officiating were of- ficers of Kern River Valley Masonic Lodge No. 827. Mr. Bizler was stricken at home and passed away at the Kern Velley Hospital on Nov. 18.


He is survived by his wife Mildred of Squirrel Valley; son Brent of Goleta; daughters Janet Clark of Hacienda Heights; Clara Frazer of Fallbrook and six grandchildren.


Earl Bizler was a mason and a member of Corona Lodge No. 324 of Pasadena, California. He was also a member of the Al Maliakah Lodge of the Shrine of Los Angeles. Donations to the Shriners Crippled Childrens Hospital in memory of Earl Bixler, Jr. will be appreciated by his family.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 23, at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, for Amy May Childs of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Father David Graham, pastor of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Kernville.


Mrs. Childs passed away Nov. 20 at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield. She is Survived by her husband, Leonard of Wofford Heights; daughter and son- in-law, June and Robert Camarano of Studio City and one sister Alma McGrath of New Jersey.


Mrs. Childs was a member of the British Social and Athletic Club. Born August 15, 1906, in London, England, the daughter of Arthur and Bertha Ward. Amy May Childs was 76 years of age.

Officiating was Monsignor Denis J. Doherty, pastor of St. Jude's Catholic Church, Wofford Heights. Baby Christina passed away at Kern Medical Center, Bakersfield, on Nov. 18. Mrs. Bye passed away at her home in Lake Isabella on Nov. 15, She is preceeded in death by her husband Harry O. Bye deceased in 1976 and survived by her daughter and son in law, Jo Anne and Gene Tingley of Reseda; sisters Gerry Jensen of Glendale, Arizona; Lorraine Hauglan of Grand Rapids, Minnesota and three grandchildren. Pearle Bye was a founding member of the VFW Auxiliary in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and a member of the AARP here in the Kern River Valley.

Allen R. "Chris" Christopher


A graveside funeral service was held at the Kern River Valley cemetery, Wofford Heights for Allen Roti Christopher of Kernville. Of- ficiating was Reverend Timothy An- derson, Pastor of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Lake Isabella.


Mr. Christopher passed away at Mercy Hospital Bakersfield on Nov. 26. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Roberta of Kernville: son Carl of Bakersfield; brothers James and John of Chatsworth; brother Gilman of Mesa, Arizona; sisters Marilyn Butler of La Habra; Alice Bowman of Northridge; Lillie Mayberry of Granada Hills. Allen Christopher's mother Mrs. Marie Christopher resides in Chatsworth


Mr. Christopher is preceeded in death by his father Gerhard John Christopher and brother Claire Christopher. Allen R. Christopher was a 25 year member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 761 He and his family had moved to Kernville in May, 1977 having been weekend visitors to this valley since 1954.


Born March 30, 1925 in Letcher, South Dakota, Allen "Chris" Christopher was 57 years or age. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


Leo C. Davis


On Tuesday November 30, a funeral service was held at the Valley Mor- tuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Leo Clement Davis of Squirrel Valley. Of- ficiating was Reverend Dave Snow, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella.


Mr. Davis passed away in Woodland, Yolo County on Nov. 25. He is survived by his wife Ruth of Squirrel Valley; orother Lawrence Davis of Burbank; step-brothers Bob of Arizona and Williamn of Oregon; sister Angela Davis of Sepulveda.


Leo Davis was a member of the KRV Moose Lodge No. 498 and the Douglas El Segundo Rod and Gun Club. At the time of his death Leo Davis was acting Rangemaster of the Rifle Range here in the Kern River Valley.


Born June 5, 1910 in St. John Oregon, Leo Clement Davis was 72 years of age. Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery. Arrangemen- ts by Valley Mortuary.

Woodrow Allen Snuth passed away at the Kern Medical Center Baker- sfleld on the morning of Nov 29. Mr. Smith was a resident of Larsen Tract Southlake.

Fred Leroy Warren


Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Wofford Heights Four Square Church for Fred Leroy Warren, 12, Wotford Heights, who died December 3. Rev. Fred Wymore will officiate, interment will


be private. Mr. Warren, a native of Waterloo, Iowa had resdided In Wof- ford Haights for aix and a half years. He was a minister for ten years, last serving with the Wofford Heights Four Square Chuch. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Artie Mae Daniel passed away at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield on Dec. 7. She is survived by her sister Ora Lee Craig of Onyx and niece Sally Zalkus of Grass Valley. Theodore O. "Ted" McCrea


A funeral service was held Friday Dec. 10 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Theodore Osborne "Ted" McCrea of Bodfish. Officiating was Reverend Linda D. Inlow, Pastor of the Highland Chapel United Methodist Church of Lake Isabella. Mr. McCrea passed away Dec. 8 at the Kern Valley hospital. He is survived by his wife Velma of Bodfish; daughters Mary Lou Riggs of Glendale; Marilee Stashuck of Fountain Valley; Patricia Raymond of Northridge; brothers Robert McCrea of Mt. Mesa; Herbert McCrea of Lake Isabella; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.


Mr. McCrea was an avid ham radio operator and was known by his call sign WA6 EOE. He was a mem- ber of the KRV Amateur Radio Club; American Radio Relay League; Western Country Cousins Amateur Radio Network and was heard every day at 9 a.m. here in the Kern River Valley with his famous words "good morning world." He W88 & lover of hunting and the out- doors and a member of the National Rifle Association. Born March 15, 1906 In Larwill, Whitley County, In- diana, Ted McCrea was 76 years of age. Claude Haney had been a Mason for 44 years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Muntebello, California Born March 31, 1903 in Shawnee, Oklahoma and raised in Wyoming, Claude D. Haney was 79 years of age Interment at the Kerp River Valley cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

OBITUARY


Vera Haynes


A memorial service for Vera Haynes will be held December 20 at 1.30 p.m. in Highland Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake Isabella. Mrs. Haynes passed away in a Bakersfield Hospital December 9 af- ær a lengthy illness. Graveside ser- wices were held in Chickasha, Oklahoma, December 13.


She had been a resident of the Kern River Valley for 25 years. She was a member of Highland Chapel Church where she was a conscien- Lious and enthusiastic church worker and the 55 plus club.


She is survived by three daughters, Naomni Horton of Bod- fish, Doris Peters of Fresno and Dorothy Gunningham of Inglewood, two grandchildren, Dr. Ronald Peters of Malibu and Charlsa Boone of Los Angeles, one great-grandson, one brother, Oscar Knowles of Chickasha, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews.


Albert Edgar Calderwood


A graveside funeral service was held Dec. 16 at the Kern River Valley cemetery for Albert E. Calderwood of Bodfish. Officiating was Reverend Dave Snow, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella. Mr. Calderwood passed wway Dec. 13 at his residence in Bod- fish. He is survived by his wife Mae of Bodfish; brother Walter Calder- wood of Brea; grandchildren Bert Duncan, Brenda Duncan; Kathleen Duncan and great grandson Timmy Gutieriez all of Torrance.


Born February 14, 1914 in La Habra, California, Albert Calder- wood served in the U.S. Army during WW II and moved to the Kern River Valley in 1971. He was 68 years of age. Arrangements by Valley Mor- luary.

Virjean E. "Jean" Thomas


A funeral service was held at the First Baptist Church Lake Isabella un Thursday Dec. 16 for Jean Thomas of Bodfish. Officiating was Reverend Dale Brown. Mrs. Thomas passed away at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa on Dec. 13. She Is survived by her husband Joseph of Bodfish; son Russell of Bodfish and daughter Barbara Wyly also of Bod- fish; grandchildren Kelly Wyly; Chris Wyly; Jennifer Thomas and Doug Thomas all of Bodfish. One sister Arlene Burris resides in Whit- tier.


Jean Thomas was a resident of the Kern River Valley since 1956 and had resided in Kern County since 1935 and was a graduate of Antelope Valley high school in Lancaster. She was active for many years in the Kern Valley Chamber of Commerce. Born June 24, 1923 in Hemingford, Box Butte County, Nebraska, Vir- jean Erlene Thomas was 59 years of age. Interment at the Kern River Valley cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.
