A memorial service was held Saturday May 9. 3 p.m. for Opal Hosbach of Lake Isabella who passed away May 7. Reverend (. Alton Thomas Pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church of Kernville officiated at the service held in the Valley Mor- Quary Chapel.
Mrs Hosbach is survived by her husband Carl of Lake Isabella, sons Charles of Pasadena and Jim of F.m. pire. California. Opal Hosbach was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Lewis S. Crolley passed away at home In Kernville on May 15. He is survived by his wife Eloise and step- sons Richard, Robert and Jack Keatinge; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Mr. Crolley was retired from 31 years as a motion picture prop man for MGM Studios. Born in Rochestar, New York September 24, 1886 Lewis Crolley was 94 years old.

Almer Joseph Williams
A funeral service was held Satur- day May 16 at Valley Mortuary Chapel for Almer J. "Al" Williams of Lake Isabella, who passed away May 11 at the Kern Valley Hospital.
Officiating were officers and mem- bers of Kern River Valley Elks Lodge No. 2358. Al Williams is survived by his wife Dolly of Lake Isabella, one sister Beatrice Thompson also of Lake Isabella, a brother George L. Williams of Salt Lake, daughters Joan Kelley of Benecia, Carolyn Small of Walnut Creek, Carla Lujan of Bain- bridge, Washington; stepdaughters Venita Bush of Lake Isabella, Marle Johnson of Onyx and one stepson Odell Stark of Lakewood, seventeen grandchildren and many great gran- dchildren.

Murdo George McIver
Services were held May 18 at Mumnaw's Funeral Home in Lancaster for Murdo George MeIver of Onyx. Mr McIver died May 12 in Bakersfield.
Mr. McIver was born in Hoople. North Dakota on January 5, 1893. He homesteaded in Antelope Valley in 1916. He was employed by the Depar- tment of Water and Power for the City of Los Angeles and worked in Mojave division of Los Angeles aqueduct for 34 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine McIver, July 25, 1980. Survivors include a son, Russell Melver of Kent, Washington and Adaughter Mary Jane Majors of Onyx, ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Paul W. Williams, 77 of Lake Isabella passed away May 24 at the Kern Valley Hospital. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife Rebecca of Lake Isabella.

Raymond Cordner Kleist
Raymond Cordner Kleist, was born on June 10, 1910 in Muskatine, Iowa, the son of William and Adella Kleist. Raymond is survived by his wife Louise Kleist of Kernville; one daughter, Shirley Langwell of St. Louis, Mo .; three step-daughters, Pat Banuelos of Van Nuys, CA, Doris Hof- fman of Lomita, CA and Janet Bryant of Lake Isabella. There are also 13 grandchildren and four great Gran- dchildren.
Raymond is survived by four brothers Bert Kleist of El Monte, CA .; Clarence Kleist of Wasco, CA; Merle Kleist of Manteca, CA and Earl Kleist of Stockton. There is also one sister, Irene Smith of Bakersfield.
Raymond came to California in 1920 and went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad. When World War II came along he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and was honorably disc- harged in 1945. After leaving the Navy he went to work for the City of Los Angeles in their Sewage System Department. He worked there for some 24 years and upon his retirement in 1971 he moved to Ker- nville, and here he has resided until his death on May 26, 1981 at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 16 days, at the Holiday Manor Nursetarium in Canoga Park, CA.
Raymond was a member of Ker- nville IOOF Lodge, 251 Kernville Rebekah Lodge No. 365 and the Loyal Order of the Moose, No. 498.

A graveside memorial service was held Monday June 1 at the Kern River Valley Cemetery Wofford Heights for Homer C. Crandall of Weldon who passed away at the Kern Valley Hospital May 29. Mr. Crandall had lived In the Kern River Valley 15 years and is preceeded in death by his wife Margie Marie who passed away April 5, 1980. Mr. Crandall had spent a Ilfettme as a wildcat ollfield driller and in plumbing construction. Homer Crandall is survived by two sons Ray of Orange and Bill of Anaheim, brother and sister-in-law Dick and Ada Moss of Weldon and one gran- dchild Janelle Marle. William Henry Kendrick
A memorial mass was held Wed- nesday June 10th at St. Jude's Catholic Church for Bill Kendrick 70, of Mt. Mesa. Father James P. O'Reilly of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Bakersfield officiated.
Interment services ware conducted at the Kern River Valley Cemetery by Father O'Reilly and VFW Post 7665, Luther Hopkins commanding, Fred Dobbs Chaplain.
Mr. Kendrick was a WW II Alr For- ce veteran and was retired from the U.S. Post Service. He is survived by his wife Donna of Mt. Mesa; brothers Jerome and Joe of Missouri; one sister Ruth Anderson of Winchester, California; two stepsons James Erickson of Torrance and Ronald Erickson of Corvalis, Oregon; eleven grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

Emma E. Berndt born November 29, 1898 in Germany, but a citizen of the United States, died at Lake Isabella on Monday, June 1, 1981.
She was the beloved mother of Mildred E. Newell of La Mirada, California, and Donald J. Berndt of Kalamazoo, Michigan. She is sur- vived by alx grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; a aister, An- namarie Buelow and a brother, Erick Kuss, both of Milwaukee, Michigan.
She was a weekend resident and visitor of the valley for the past ten years.
Memorial services were held at the Chapel of Memories, Norwalk, California on Saturday, June 6, 1981.

OBITUARY
Kenneth E. Goodner
Kenneth E. Goodner passed away at Kern Medical Center Satuday June 13, 1981 after a brief illness. He was born in Maysville, Oklahoma on November 12, 1937. He is survived by his father, Horace and mother Edith who reside in California City; his brother Jim from Tehachapi and brother Bill and sister Wilma from Lancaster.
Other survivors include his four children Kenny, Chuck, Kelly and Ront; two grand daughters, Chrystal and Angel. He came from a large family and has numerous relations from Quartz Hill to Oklahoma.
He resided in Kernville for the past 54% years.
Services were held at Haley's Mor- tuary in Lancaster June 17 with graveside services following.
Howard Duane Keller
A memorial service was held at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Howard D. Keller of Lake Iaabella. Mr. Keller passed away June 16, at Wadsworth V.A. Medical Center in Los Angeles.
He is survived by his wife Helen of Lake Isabella, eleven brothers and sisters and seven children. Howard Keller was a retired Air Force Veteran who served during the Korean and Vietnam wara.

Services were held June 29 at Memorial Chapel in East Peoria Illinois for Lester Moore, 77 of Bod- fish, who passed away in Park View Junian Convalescent Hospital in Bakersfield on June 24.
Born July 22, in 1903 In Carlock Illinois, Moore was a resident of Bod- fish for the past two years.
He is survived by one son, Gary Moore of Bodfish, a brother Ralph Moore of Castleberry, Florida and two grandchildren.
Arrangementa were made by Doughty-Calhoun-O'meara of Baker- sfield. Following the services, Mr. Moore was buried at Swan Lake Memory Park in Peoria Illinois.

Services were held last Monday at Hillcrest Mortuary chapel for Ber- nadine Burlando, who died in River- aide. She was a truck driver for the past eight years for Consolidated Freightways.

Head-On Kills Two
Two persons were killed and three others injured in a head-on traffic collision which occured Monday af- ternoon on Burlando Road, near Ker- nville Cemetery, according to California Highway Patrol.
Gregory Georg Blake, 26, Lake Isabella and his passenger, Melinda Sue Carlton, 20 of Bellflower were killed instantly when Blake'a motor- cycle which was traveling north on Burlando Road struck the oncoming van in the southbound lane driven by Virginia Ann Chesney, 23 of Glendale.
According to CHP Officer Sam Carother's report, a witness stated he was in the northbound lane, whon Blake's motorcycle passed him and remained in the center of the road. As Blake approached a rise In the road, he crossed over the center yollow line, striking the oncoming van.
Chesney and her two passengers, Nancy Vasquez and Richard Vasquez of Montrose, were Injured in the collision, and taken to Kern Valley Hospital, where Chesney was tran-
sported to Kern Medical Center for her injuries.
Traffic fatals for 1981 now stands at eight killed in seven highway acciden- ts, as opposed to seven killed in six accidents last year at this time.
Saturday, July fourth a single vehicle collision on Sierra Way two miles from Kernville left two persons with moderate Injuries.
Brude Howard Downs, 17 of Canoga Park was traveling southbound on Sierra Way when, according to California Highway Patrol reports, took his attention off the roadway, at which time, his vehicle drove off the right side of the road, down an em- bankment. Downs vehicle rolled two times before coming to a stop.
Downe was ejected from the vehicle and thrown approximately 60 feet and received moderate injuries. His passenger, Harry Lamier, 18 of Chat- sworth was pinned Inside the vehicle and also sustained moderate Injuries. Both were taken to Kern Valley Hospital where they were admitted for their Injuries.

Roy L. Wharton, 81, of Lake Isabella passed away in Bakersfield July 11, 1981. Wharton was an owner of a retail store for 35 years before retiring.
Roy is survived by his wife Ger- trude of Lake Isabella, a son John of Caris Burges, Washington, a son Rocky of Clovis and a daughter Leah Brennan of Boise, Idaho. Other sur- vivors include 2 grand children and 1 great-grandchild.

Mr. Brady was a member of the Eagles and was a WWII veteran having served in the Army under the command of General Patton. He is survived by his sister Irene of Maywood and brothers Vincent of Culver City, Leonard of Dallas and Bernard of St. Joseph, Missouri. ROBERT MEEKER SCHICK
A graveside funeral service was held at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Bob Schick 70, of Lake Isabella. Reverend Rob Langguth pastor of the United Methodist Church, Kernville, officiated. Bob Schick was a semi-pro baseball player in his youth. He was catcher for the Columbus, Ohio minor league team. In tryouts for the major leagues, his back failed him and he became a painter and decorator. In Lake Isabella he opened the 178 Drive-In and did painting. He is preceeded in death by his wife Geraldine who passed away in 1976. Mr. Schick is survived by his son Robert of Lake Isabella, daughter Debbie Dockery of Kernville, 6 grand- children and 3 great-grandchildren. Isabella Woman Killed In Accident

A local resident died as the result of an automobile accident which oc- cured approximately one mile East of Mt. Mesa last Saturday.
Ruth Maxine Hess, 59, of Lake Isabella was killed when her 1974 Dat- sun was hit by a 1967 Chrysler driven by Kenneth Jasper Garrett, 35, of Weldon. Garrett was taken to Kern Valley Hospital and later transferred to Kern Medical Center. At last report Tuesday afternoon he was in serious condition. According to California Highway Patrolman, Verby Pierce. Cause of the accident was believed to be excessive speed of the Garrett vehicle. Garrett falled to negotiate a curve which caused his vehicle to cross into the Westbound lane colliding with Hess.
Investigation of the fatal accident is continuing, according to Pierce.

Henry P. Sherlock
Memorial Services were held July 23, 1981 at the First Congregational Church in Whitman, Massachusetts for Henry P. Sherlock. Mr. Sherlock was 64 and was born In Whitman December 8, 1916 and passed away July 17th in a Boston Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis Wiseman Sherlock, formerly of Isabella; his son Michael Sherlock of Roseburg, Oregon and daughter Sarah Fowler of Whitman. Mr. Sherlock is the son-in-law of Mr. & Mrs. Gus Suhre of Wofford Heights and the brother-in-law of Elizabeth Waldrop of Lake Isabella.

Graveside services were held July 14 at 2 p.m. for Charles A. Newbury, 73, of Kernville. Mr. Newbury passed away on July 9 In Los Angeles. He was born August 29, 1907 in Pomona. California.
Services were conducted by the Odd Fellows Lodge in Kernville. The funeral director was Forest Lawn Mortuary, Cypress, California. In- terment by Kern River Valley Cemetery.
Mr. Newbury is survived by his wife Lillian of Kernville, one sister, Mr. Hugh Mason, one nephew and niece.

RALPH MILLER
Ralph Miller, 86, passed away in Bakersfield on July 29, 1981. He was born in Polk County, Nebraska on July 21, 1895.
Mr. Miller lived in Kernville for 19 years and was a retired motion pic- ture grip-man. He is survived by his wife Grace of Kernville.
No services will be held. Cremation and burial at Kern River Valley Cemetery .
RUTH MAXINE HESS
A memorial service will be held Saturday August 1st at 1:00 p.m. at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Ruth Maxine Hess of Southlake. Mrs. Hess was the victim of a tragic motor vehicle accident June 25th on Highway 178 just east of Mt. Mesa. Ruth Hess is survived by sons Bill of Torrance, John of Woodland Hills, Darrell of Torrance and Darrell's twin sister Carol of Bakersfield, Martin of Montclair and Michael of Southlake. Daughters Mary of Weldon, Evelyn of Weldon, Jeanneanne of Washington State, Ruthie of Southlake, Patty of Mon- tclair and twenty nine grandchildren, and four greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Hess has five sisters Evelyn of Louisiana, May of Chicago, Pauline of Sparks, Nevada, Marion and Em- mylou of Washington State. One brother Benny resides in Boise Idaho. Born in Terre Haute, Indiana December 28, 1921, Ruth Hess was 59 years of age. Interment at Kern River Valley Cemetery. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Joseph Marcus Beresy
Joseph M. Beresy passed away August 7, at Kern Valley Hospital. Private services were held Monday, August 10, at Valley Mortuary.
Mr. Beresy was a resident of Squirrel Valley and is survived by his wife Jessie Beresy and a step- daughter Penny Jones of Modesto, Ca. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.
