Harold D. McVey


Rosary was held at Our Lady of Vic- tory Church in Compton for Harold D. McVey, 68 of Weldon who passed away August 6.


Harold McVey was born November 15, 1912 in Whitmore, lowa. He lived in the Kern River Valley since 1962 and was a full time resident after his retirement from California Cartage Company in 1975.


He is survived by his wife, Lillian of Weldon. Two brothers Raymond of Long Beach and Marvin of Washington. One sister, Dorothy of Long Beach; a son Hogan of Weldon and four daughters, Patricia of River- side, Judy of Buena Park, Sharon of Tustin and Chris of Huntington Beach. Harold is survived also by 14 gran- dchildren and three great gran- dchildren.


Internment was held at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach.


Clifford L. Hooper


A memorial service was heid at the Kern River Valley Moose Lodge, Lake Isabella, Saturday August 8, 11 a.m. for Clifford L. Hooper of Weldon. Mr. Hooper passed away in the early a.m. of August 3rd at the Valley Con- valescent Hospital, Bakersfield.


He Is survived by his wife Norma of Weldon and two sons; Clifford Jr. of Concord, Ca. and Kenneth of Long Beach; one brother, Edwin Hooper of Weldon and two sisters; Susan Bobst of Long Beach, Allce Chamberlain of Wichita, Kansas.


Mr. Hooper was a WW II Veteran of the Army Air Corps where he served as a master sergeant. Born in Cherokee, Oklahoma November 20, 1907, Clifford Hooper was 73 years of age. Cremation Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


Peggy Louise Martin


On August 7, at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Rob Langguth of the United Methodist Church, Kernville, officiated at a memorial service for Peggy Louise Martin age 58 of Laka Isabella who died on August 5.

Lucille Ryan Velardi


Lucille R. Velardi passed away August 5, at her residence in Onyx. Memorial services were held Tuesday, August 11, at 11 a.m. at Valley Mortuary Chapel, with Rev. Donald Rouisten officiating.


She was preceeded In death by her husband, Benjamin Velardi, in November 1980.


Survivors Include two daughters Rae Kette of Palos Verdes, Ca and Barbara Clansen of Onyx, her Mother, Mary Adamson, of Houston, Texas, a sister, Leona Krakower, of Houston, Texas, three grandaughters, Teresa Ulner, Wofford Heights, and Jolene Hitchings, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Candy Clansen, Onyx; and great grandson Jereme Ulner of Weldon. Hazel Westlake


Anna Hazel Westlake passed away July 16 in Largo, Fiorida, where she had resided for the past two years. Born April 26, 1903, she was 78 years old.


Hazel and her husband, Lawrence lived in Wofford Heights for many years and following Lawrence's death, Hazel moved to Largo to live near her niece, Ruth Pelper.


It was Hazel's wish to be buried by her husband. Her remains were brought to California and on August 7, she was laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

Jim Scobie


Jim Scobie, 62, died Saturday, August 15 in Paso Robes, CA. Funeral services are scheduled today, August 20, at 1 p.m. Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bakersfield.


Scobie was born December 12, 1918. He was a long time ranchar in the Walker Basin- Piute Mountain area. Scoble later moved his ranching in- terests to Parkfield, CA.


He is survived by his wife, Donna, Parkfield; two sons, Mark and Mike, Parkfield; one sister, Evelyn Bauer, Caliente and three grandchildren.

Irene Mae Hauser


Irene Mae Hauser passed away August 10, 1981 in Mt. Mesa. Memorial services were held Wednesday, August 12, 1981 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley Mortuary Chapel, with Rev. Rob Langguth officiating.


She is survived by her husband William Hauser of Wofford Heights, two sons William George Hauser of Virginia, and Donald Hauser of Los Angeles.

Melville Irwin Mallette


Melville Irwin Mallette passed away Aug. 7 at his home in Tujunga, California.


Ho La survived by his wife Aleene. One daughter Nickie of Wotford Heights. Grandaughter Marsha of Monrovia, California and four great grandaughters.


Mr. Mallette was a veteran of the Army's 7th Calvary. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, December 31, 1899. He was 81 years old. Arrangements by the Alpha Society, Burbank.


Charles Seldon Fluhart


Memorial services will be beld on Friday August 21 at 2 p.m. at Valley Mortuary in Lake Isabella for Charles Seldon Fluhart, 84, a longtime resident of the Kern River Valley wbo passed away August 9 in Bakerstleid after a lengthy illness.


Mr. Fluhart was employed by Van- Gas for over 26 years. He was a World War II veteran, a member of the Kern Valley Historical Society, and a activo member of the Kern Valley VFW.


Mr. Fluhart is survived by his wife, Audrey and sons Roy of Huntington Lake; Dean of Bakersfield and daughter Nancy Goss of Grover City. He is also survived by three gran- dchildren and a brother, Georgewof Downey.


Officiating at the memorial service will be members of the Korn Valby VFW.

Alfred J. "Al" Lund


A graveside funeral service was haid Saturday August 22 at the Kern River Valley cemetery for Alfred J. Lund of Wofford Heights. Reverend Tim Anderson Pastor of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, of. ficiated.


AJ Lund waa a WW Il Navy veteran where he served in the Asiatic-Pacific area. He is survived by four sons, Marc of Sunnyvale, Dennis of Modesto, Allen of Mt. View, Ronald of Aspen, Colorado; one daughter Pauling of Tustin. Mr. Lund's mother Inga Lund and brother E. Marc Lund Uve in Washington State. There are three grandchildren.


Born in Los Angeles, California April 28, 1925, Al Lund was 56 years of age. Arrangements by Valley Mor- tuary.


Lamer Long


A graveside funeral service was held Wednesday August 26 for Lamer Long 68, of Mt. Mesa, who passed away in Bakersfield August 23. Of- ficiating was reverend Bud Frye whose radio ministry is broadcast from Bakersfield.


Mr. Long was a resident of the Kern River Valley for 16 years. He had been a district manager for Safeway Stores in Los Angeles county before moving here. He was formerly em- ployed at the Isabella Market where he worked as produce manager.


Survivors include is wife Ima, sister Betty Thomas as Taft, one brother Raymond Long of Arroyo Grande; nieces Charlene White of Taft and Glenda Jones of Bakersfield.

Norman Weldon Morrow.


A graveside funeral service was held Saturday August 22 at the Kern River Valley cemetery for Norman W. Morrow of Riverkern. Reverend Rob Langguth Pastor of the United Methodist church, Kernville of- ficiated.


Mr. Morrow passed away August 19 in Bakersfield. He is survived by his wife Patricia and sons Eugene, Gregory and Danlel.


A WW II Navy Veteran, Mr. Morrow served in the South Pacific and participated in the liberation of the Phillippine Islands, born in Kalispell, Montans January 5, 1926 Norman Morrow was 55 years of age. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


Frank Dick Price


A funeral service was held at the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Dick Price of Southlake on Friday August 21. Officiating was Reverend Don Roulsten, Pastor of the United Methodist Church, Weldon.


Mr. Price is survived by his wife Doris, one daughter Mary of Mt. Mesa, two brothers Jack of Santa Fe Springs and Bill of El Monte, three sisters, Thelma of Lake Isabella, Mabel of Lancaster, Florence of Downey and two grandchildren.


A native of Kern County, Dick Price was born October 22, 1912 in the Midland Oil Lease Area of Western Kern County near Taft. He was 68 years of age.

Clarence J. "Rocky" Gean


Funeral services were held August 15 at Valley Mortuary Chapel for Rocky Gean of Bodfish. Reverend Kurt Pfaff officlated. He is survived by his wife Edith, three daughters Sylvia Smith of Fairoaks, CA, Flossle Wallace of Citrus Heights and Sandra Cal also of Citrus Heights.


Mr. Gean's mother Annie Gean residea in Oklahoma. One brother Claude Gean lives in California. There are Il grandchildren.


Born in Tallhina, Oklahoma June 3, 1915, Rocky Gean was 66 years of age.


Henry Philip Black


A funeral mass was held Saturday August 29 at St. Jude's Catholic Chur. ch, Wofford Heights for Henry P. Black who passed away August 26 in Ridgecrest. Monsignor Denis J. Doherty officiated at the mass and at the graveside committal services.


Mr. Black is survived by his alster Mary Olejniczak of Kernville, two brothers Harry Czarnecki of Baltimore and Alex Czarniecki of Pit- tsburgh, Pennsylvania. Nieces Robert and Elaine Miller reside in Kernville.


In addition there are thirteen nieces and nephews residing in the East. A WW II Army Air Force Veteran, Henry Black served in Italy, France, the Rhineland, Central Europe and the Balkans Air Offensive.


Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania July 12, 1910, Henry Black was 71 year of age. Interment at the Kern River Valley cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

A graveside funeral service was held August 31st at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Bill Collins 71, of Squirrel Valley who passed away August 30 in Bakersfield. Members of Kern River Valley Masonic Lodge No. 827 officiated.


Mr. Collins is preceeded in death by his wife Flora and is survived by two sisters Verge Perry of Ventura, Ellen Featherston of Bentonville, Arkansas and one stepson Richard Marine of Squirrel Valley. Bill Collins was a WW II Veteran of the U.S. Army. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

A funeral service was held at Valley Mortuary Chapel on Saturday August 29 for Clyde H. Phelps of Lake Isabella. Officating was Reverend D.D. Brian, Pastor of the Mountain View Southern Baptist Church and members of the KRV Masonic Lodge No. 827.


Mr. Phelps passed away August 27th in Bakersfield. He is survived by his wife Lucille and three daughters, Elaine McBee of Torrance, Lols Harrison also of Torrance and Bettye McAfee of Bakersfield. There are seven grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.

Mrs. Keesee passed away Septem- ber 7 in Glendale. Lucy Keesee Ls preceeded in death by her husband Roy H. Keesee.


She is survived by two sons, James of Glendale and Lee of Kernville; one daughter Geneva, Lancaster. A sister Mrs. Vesta Cicotte resides in Lake Isabella and one brother, Ray Franklin of Susanville, California. There are six grandchildren.


Born in McAllister, Oklahoma In- dian Territory December 14, 1902 Lucy Keesee was 78 years of age.

Mrs. Taylor passed away Septem- ber at the Inter-Community Hospital Covina, California. She is survived by her husband Charles F. Taylor now residing in Redondo Beach, sisters Betty of Ogden, Utah, Gladys and Polly both of Long Beach, one brother Lorin Robinson of Canby, Oregon.


Children include Robert of Redondo Beach, Claudette of Alhambra, Carol Ann of Covina, Patricia of Suisun City, Jimmie of Chino and Rose-Marle of Redondo Beach. There are twenty nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.


Born in Lewiston, Cache County, Utah March 4, 1920, Hazel Taylor was 61 years of age.

Kathleen M. Davis passed away at Kern Valley Hospital on the morning of September 15. She is survived by her husband Warren E. Davis of Wof- ford Heights and five children.


Mrs. Davis worked for many years as a teller for Bank of America. Born in Summit, Richland County, North Dakota, September 20, 1925; Kathleen Davis was 55 years of age.

Truman B. Thompson passed away on the morning of September 20 at home In Wofford Heights. Mr. Thompson had been a resident of the Kern River Valley for nine years.


He Is survived by his wife Allce, daughters Patricla of Norwalk, and Sandra of Huntington Beach, one son Michael Thompson resides in San Luis Obispo. There are four gran- dchildren.

Mr. Miller was born May 23, 1912 In Reno County, Kansas and came to California in 1934. He had resided In the Kern River Valley since 1959.


Mr. Miller was a WW II Veteran who served in the U.S. Marina Corps and was presently the vice- commander of KitV American Legion Post 711

Leo Secules was a member of the Kern River Valley Elks and VFW Post 7665. He was a WW II Veteran.

Verna Robinson was 1980-81 past president of the Kern River Valley Ladles of the Elks.


She is survived by her husband Willls R. Cam- pbell of Holliday Shores, Arizona; brother Ed Campbell of Ukaipa, Callfornia; sisters Hattie Palmer of Palm Springs, Daisy French of Oklahoma and grandchildren Janett Poskin on Huntington Beach and Lynette Sanschagrin of New York.


Born In Elderado Township. Cedar County, Missouri July 1, 1904, Fred Campbell was 77 years of age. En- tombment at the Angelus Abbey Mausoleum Compton.

Memorial services were held at the Draper Memorial Chapel in Ontario, California on October 2 for Herman D. Anthony who passed away September 29.


Mr. Anthony la survived by his wife, Delphia. Herman and Delphia were former members of the Eastern Star and Masonic lodge of Kern Valley .


Officiating was the Reverand Lee Coffey of the Hemet Assembly of God Church and the Ontario Masonic Lodge. Internment was at the Bellivier Cemetary in Ontario.

CLARA BELL KEVERLINE


A memorial service was held Sunday October 18, at the United


Methodist Church Kernville for Clara Keverline of Wofford Heights. Reverend Rob Langguth, Pastor, of- ficated. Mrs. Keverline passed away at home on the morning of October 16. She is survived by her sons Arthur of Wofford Heights, Victor of Saugus. sisters Melda Callahan, Loretta Minor and Alice Bauer all of Pen- nsylvania and brother Frank Flick also of Pennsylvania. There are 12 grandchildren and 3 great grand children.


Born in Pennsylvania July 3, 1908, Clara Keverline was 73 years of age. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary .


DOROTHY ORSBURN


A funeral service was held graveside at the Kern River Valley cemetery on Saturday October 17 for Dorothy Orsburn of Hillview Acres who passed away October 14. Mr. Lee Oldham officiated. Mrs. Orsburn is survived by her son William Jr. of Arcadia; daughter Betty Murphy of Monrovia; brothers Lee Oldham of El Monte, John Oldham of Bountiful, Utah. Hibbard Oldham of Auburn, Roy Oldham of Altadena, Eugene Oldham of Glen- dora, Louis Oldham of San Diego; sisters Norma Farrimond and Edia Emerson both of Utah and Lois Bell of Weaverville, CA. There are five grandchildren, born in Logan, Utah December 22, 1919 Dorothy Orsburn was 61. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary


KENDALL FREDERICK MCCOMAS


A memorial service will be held for Kendall F. McComas on Saturday Oct- ober 24, 1981 at 1 p.m. at Masonic Temple, Old Jame Rd. Kernville. Mr. McComas passed away late Thursday October 15 at his home in Squirrel Valley. Officiating at the memorial service will be officers of the Kern River Valley Masonic Lodge No. 827 of which Mr. McComas was a mem- ber; he was also a member of the Shrine. Mr. McComas is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Wayne and Jean McComas of Fresno. His mother Mrs. Mildred Brittain of Bakersfield; nieces Leeanne Mc- Comas of Scramento and Julie Melville of Fresno; nephews John McComas of Murphys, California and Scott McComas of Milpitas, born in Holton, Jackson County, Kansas Oct- ober 29, 1916 Kendall McComas, known to his friends as "Shorty" was 64 years of age. Donations in memory of Kendall McComas may be made to the Shriner's Crippled Children Hospital care of Al Malakiah Temple 6605 W. Jefferson, Los Angeles, CA. 90007.
