Prosperous town in Socorro county. 30 miles west from So- corro. Terminus of the Magdalena branch of the Atchison. Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. A very important supply point for the west- ern portion of Socorro county. to which it is the nearest railroad point, for more than 100 miles. In 1918 17,000 cattle. 150,000 sheep and two million pounds of wool were shipped from this point. Mining, stock raising and farming all contribute to the trade of Magdalena. The surrounding country is rich in gold, silver, eop- per, zinc, lead., onyx. timber, building stone and salt. Population 2,500. Altitude 6,556 feet.
