Albuquerque

Albuquerque

Albuquerque, New Mexico, the metropolis of the state, is located upon the main line of the Santa Fe Railroad in the central part of New Mexico, and its population is 28,000 people.

It is a modern city in every sense of the word, having excellent street car service, gas and electri- city with bitulithic paved streets, beautiful homes, trees, parks, gardens and all that goes with the city beautiful as well as a prosperous municipality.

Its buildings are of substantial nature, many of them new and the older ones have been steadily replaced by new modern fire-proof structures. It has a very active Y. M. C. A., built by the citizens at a total outlay of $75,000, with gymnasium, swimming pool, recreation rooms, forty bed rooms, etc. Its Elks Club is the most elaborate and commodious in the southwest, housing thirty members, and plans just passed and O. K.'d contract for an addition of twenty-four more sleeping rooms. The Masonic Temple, a modern and beautiful structure was com- pleted at a cost of over $75,000.

.

B

Albuquerque

Albuquerque's schools are considered the very best to be found in the country, the High School with capacity to accommodate 500 students, with shower bath, gymnasium, a large auditorium seating 850 people, steel locker for each pupil, modern chemical and physical laboratories. A bond issue of $425,000 has just been voted upon and passed by a very large majority, which will provide additional school facil- ities.

The churches are a credit to a city of this size, and are beautiful modern edifices with very active clergy.

Albuquerque is known as a health resort as well as a jobbing center, and farming has been taken up very rapidly in the Rio Grande Valley adjacent tc Albuquerque and wonderful results are being ob- tained from the fertile soil, which is irrigated from the Rio Grande, a mile from the heart of Albu- querque.

The McKinley Land and Lumber Company have their enormous plant in Albuquerque, and the city has just received a new industrial addition in the Whitmer-Jackson Sash and Door Factory, a new cement brick company, and a number of other new industries which have been formed and founded upon thorough and efficient financing and are successful from the start.

C

Albuquerque

Albuquerque has never had a boom. Its pro- gress has been naturally slow but steady.

Its Chamber of Commerce housed in its own building, located on the corner of Fourth and Gold, is active in every particular, and visitors or those interested in New Mexico are invited to direct their inquiries to the Chamber of Commerce where they will be attended to in every detail.

Albuquerque's slogan "Step Lively" is a pace its citizens attempt to keep up and its message to the world is that the world is invited to Albuquerque, where health, wealth and prosperity abound for all.
