Lit- erary organizations are also sustained by the Intermediate and Grammar School students. Care is taken to make students acquainted with the rules governing parliamentary bodies.

Libraries.

There are three Libraries in connection with the school, which contain about two thons- and volumes. Two of them belong to the literary Societies, and the ather to the Academy Association. Additions are made each year.

SPICELAND ACADEMY. .

Reading Room.

A Reading Room has recently been opened, to which all students have access. It is supphed with the leading periodicals, and a number of valable papers. Cyclopedias and other valuable books of reference are free to all. New books are added each year.

Lectures.

A Lecture Association affords opportunity for hearing many distinguished speakers. Lectures are frequently given in connection with the school.

Apparatus and Cabinet.

The Academy is supplied with sufficient apparatus to be a valuable aid in studying the Natural Sciences; also with a Geological Cabinet, containing many valuable specimens.

Boarding.

The cost of boarding, the past year, has been about $2 5h per week. Rooms em be rented by those who wish to board themselves, and the east reduced to less than $1.75 per week. Cluh-hoarding, including room-rent, can be obtained for less than $2.00. Meals at $1.50 per week.

Location.

The school is in the village of Spiceland. Henry county, Indiana. Dunreith, two and a half miles distant, ou the Pittsburg, Cincinnati and St. Louis R. R., isthe nearest railway station. A hack meets the trains three times each day at Duureith, and ouce at New Castle.

General Items.

The government of the school is based upon, the idea that manhood is more than scholar- ship, and that self-respect and self-control, on the part of the student, are important factors in the formation of character. Greater stress is laid upon thoroughness of instruction and neenracy of knowledge, than upon rapidity of advancement.

In Arithmetic, Grammar, Geography, Algebra and Latin, there are from three to five classes cach, so that students can enter school at any time and he classed according to their advancement.

For many years the health of students has been uniformly good. There is probably no healthier locality in the State.

The Friends and the Methodists both hold religions services on the Sabbath, and each maintains a Sabbath-school. The Young Mens' Christian Association holds a meeting for worship one evening each week.

A sufficient member of teachers is constantly employed, so that large classes may be avobled, and that pupils may receive personal intention each recitation.

Expenses are as low as at any other school affording equal advantages.

The managers of the school are very careful to make this an institution in which stu. dents, who are away from home and its restraints, will be surrounded by good, moral in- fluences, and in this they have the co-operation of the citizens of the village.

Students are required to keep study hours during the evening.

There are no beer, liquor or billiard saloons in the village.

The High School building has recently been enlarged, and much better accommodations are furnished than formerly.

Na student, whose inthenee is known to have a corrupting tendency, will be retained in the school.

Diploma.

Students, whose conduct is exemplary, and who complete the course of study, will be furnished with a Diploma, signed by the Instructors and the President of the Board of Trustees.
