GOVERNMENT, ETC.
The government of the school is based upon the idea that manhond is more than scholarship, and self-respect and self-control, on the part of the student, are important factors in the formation of character. Greater stress is laid upon thoroughness of instruction and accuracy of knowledge than upon rapidity of advancement.
A sufficient number of teachers is constantly employed, so that large classes may be avoided, and students may receive personal attention during recitation.
It is the aim to promote the growth of students intellectually, morally and physically- to make better men and women in every particular.
The managers of the school are very careful to make this an institution in . which students, who are away from home and it restraint, will be surrounded by good, moral influences, and in this they have the e-operation of the citizens of the village. Definite moral or religious instruction is included in the daily selmol work.
Students are required to keep suply four- during the evening.
The Friends and Methodlists both hold religions services on the Sabbath, and cach maintains a Sabbath school.
No student whose influence is known to have a corrupting tendency, will be retained in the school.
There are no beer, liquor or billiard saloons in the village.
CERTIFICATES.
A student who finishes in a satisfactory manner the studies of the HighSchool Course, and whose character is inobjectionable, will receive a diploma signed by the Teachers and by the President of the Board of Trustees. Those who complete the Preparatory Course as here laid down, or as modified to shit the requirements of a particular college, will receive an appropriate certificate of the same, which will be taken in lieu of examinations at any college with which the Academy ha- sch arrangements.
1

Each year's work is divided into three sections corresponding to the three school terms, By this arrangement, the pupil who fails of promotion with his class, is not thrown back an entire year, bin only a single term. No pupil is pro- mated until he has finished all the work of his section. Pupils who attend but two terms in the year, will require three years to complete the work of two years,

do not expect to pursue a college course, but who desire to require a knowledge of those branches which will fit them for active life. Special attention, however, is given to pre- pering students for college.
English Literature receives special attention. The work consists of a brief history of the rise and growth of the English language, the history of the lives of the leading anthors, and a critical study of parts of their works.
In the Latin and Greek languages, thorough drill on the declension of nouns and the conjugation of the verbs, is given, and also on the application of the rules of construe- L tion. The amount of work in these languages will be the same as that required by the college which students propose in enter.
Classes will be formed in the Greek and German and French languages whenever a sufficient unmber shall desire to pursue those studies.
Penmanship, Reading and Composition will receive attention - throughout the whole course of study.
