EXAMINATIONS.

Public examinations cceur at the close of the Winter and Summer Terms.


Students are required also, at the end of each month, to pass a written examination in the advancement made in studies dur- ing that period. No student, either when first entering the school, or afterwards, is allowed to enter any Grade or Depart- ment, who can not pass a satisfactory examination on the pre- eceding studies of the course.


LECTURES.


Lectures are given frequently on Literary and Scientific sub- jects. Those on Natural Science are illustrated by experi- ments with Chemical and Philosophical Apparatus, when the subject requires them,


LITERARY SOCIETY.


The High School has a Literary Society connected with it. The Students of the other Departments receive instruction, weekly, in English Composition


GOVERNMENT.


The Discipline of the school is intended to be mild and firm. As far as possible students are taught to govern themselves, and at the same time inthiences for good are brought to bear up- on the proper developement of character. A regular record is kept of the deportment of each student, a copy of which will be furnished to parents and guardians when desired. Those, whose influence is injurious to the school, will not be admitted a second time; and whenever circunstances require it they will be dismissed.


GENERAL ITEMS.


This School is under the control of the Society of Friends; and Students will be required in company with the Teachers to attend meeting for Divine Worship in the middle of each week. They are also expected to attend at some place of wor- ship on the First Day of the Week. Scripture recitations are required of all the School, and each student should be provided with a Bible. Students are required to observe regular hours for study during the evening.


LIBRARY.


In the School is a small but valuable Library of standard works to which students have aceess on the payment of a small sum yearly.


VACATIONS.


There will be a vacation of two weeks following the close of the Winter Term ; and one of ten weeks following the close of the academic year.

[E]" Tuition will be charged from the time the pupil enters school till the close of the term. No deductions will be made for absence except in cases of protracted sickness. Prompt payment is expected ;- by strangers in advance; by resident citizens at the close of the term. Business of all kinds is now reduced to the cash system.


Boarding can beobtained in private families near the school at reasonable rates. The past year the cost has been $3,00 and $3.50 per week.

SCIENTIFIC COURSE.


In this the following studies will be substituted instead of Latin in the Classical Course :


FIRST YEAR.


FIRST TERM-Comparative or Physical Geography. SECOND TERM-Natural History, (Tenney.)


SECOND YEAR.


FIRST TERM-Grecian and Roman History. SECOND TERM-English and American History.


Those who desire it, may substitute German instead of the above nained studies.


Students whose conduet is exemplary, and who complete either of the Courses of Study, will be furnished with a Diploma, signed by the In- struetors and the Clerk of the Committee having the school in charge.


Opportunity will be afforded for studying Analytical Chemistry. A small additional charge will be made for Apparatus and Chemicals.

In arranging the Course of Study the 1st and 2d Terms are considered as forming but one session ; and students who wish to advance with their classes will find it highly important to begin at the opening of the First Term. Students will be received at any time, when the school is not full and tuition will be charged from the time of entering until the close of the Term.
