ANNUAL MEETING
A meeting duly warned of the inhabitants of West Bridgewater qualified to vote in election and Town affairs was held in the Town Hall at West Bridgewater, Monday, March 4th, 1935, at nine o'clock in the forenoon, and the following is a record of the doings of said meeting :
The meeting was called to order by the Moderator, Howard B. Wilbur, and after Article 1 of the Warrant had been read by the Town Clerk, that is to elect the following officers for the Town by ballot, the Moderator declared the meeting opened to elect the following: One Moderator for one year, one Selectmen for three years, one member of Board of Public Welfare for three years, one Town Clerk for one year, one Assessor for three years, one Tax Collector for one year, one Treasurer for one year, one member of Board of Water Commissioners for three years, one mem- ber of Board of Water Commissioners for one year, two members of Library Committee for three years, two mem- bers of School Committee for three years, two Constables for one year, one Tree Warden for one year.
The Election Officers were duly sworn by the Town Clerk to the faithful performance of their duties and were as follows: Albert Snow, Jennie Sullivan, Arthur Ryder, Harry Fulton, Counters; Grace Keenan, Mary Pratt, Lulu Gardner, Eunice Logue, Checkers of Voters.

ANNUAL MEETING

The ballot box was inspected by the police officer in charge, Warren P. Laughton, and found to be empty, and the register set at zero. Fifteen hundred ballots were de- livered to the Moderator by the Town Clerk and receipt given for same.
At nine o'clock A. M. the Moderator declared the polls open for casting ballots. At eight o'clock P. M. the Mod- erator declared the polls closed.
The Moderator, with the police officer in charge, counted the cast and unused ballots, and announced that the whole number of ballots cast was ten hundred thirteen (1,013), four hundred eighty-seven unused ballots on hand, and that these figures tallied with the count of votes from check list, also with dial numbers shown on ballot box.
The ballots having been counted, sorted, and computed, as is by law required, the Moderator then declared the vote.

Following a vote taken at Annual Town Meeting, held March 4th, the adjourned meeting was called to order by the Moderator, Howard B. Wilbur.
Article 2. Voted to choose Town Officers not elected on official ballot.

Article 4. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to bor- row money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1935, and to issue a note or notes therefor payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year, in accordance with Chapter 44, Section 17, of the General Laws. It was so voted.
Article 5. To raise such sums as may be necessary to defray the Town charges for the ensuing year, and make appropriation for the same. It was so voted.
Article 6. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00) to rebuild West Street as laid out by the County Commis- sioners, provided the State will contribute $6,000.00 and the County $3,000.00. It was so voted.
Article 7. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of Four Hundred Dollars ($400.00) for any possible land damage on West Street. It was voted.

Article 8. To see if the Town will vote to restore the wage reduction made in 1932.
It was moved that the wage reduction made in 1932 be restored. Motion amended, that it be limited to the several departments, viz .: Water Department, Highway Depart- ment, Janitor, and Tree Department. Upon ballot vote the motion with the amendment was lost by a vote of 132 in the affirmative, 161 negative.
Article 9. To see if the Town will vote to purchase the property owned by the Easton Land Company known as the Ames Estate, as described herein:
Section 1. Consisting of four and one-quarter acres, more or less, as upon plans, bordering Town River west of Arch Street and east of Arch and River Streets as defined upon said plan, at a price not to exceed Two Thousand Dol- lars ($2,000.00) and that the sum of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) be appropriated from the War Memorial Bonus Fund, and a sum not to exceed One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) be appropriated from the revenue of the cur- rent year for the purchase of the property as above defined. So voted.
Section 2. To see if the Town will vote to place under supervision of the Selectmen the control of the water in the river (known as Town River) above the dam so as to serve the best interests of those concerned during certain periods of the year. It was so voted.
Article 10. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000.00) to install proper sanitary conditions in the Center Schools, provided the labor will be paid by the E. R. A. or 50% of the entire costs be paid by the P. W. A. It was so voted.
Article 11. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) from Surplus Water Revenue for purchase and laying water pipe on Samuel Avenue a distance of 700 feet.

Amended, "provided Brockton will lay pipe to West Bridgewater line." So voted as amended.
Article 12. To see what amount the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the Plymouth County Trustees for County Aid to Agriculture (Plymouth County Extension Service) and choose a Town director as provided in Sections 41 and 42 of revised Chapter 128 of the General Laws and Acts thereof.
Upon motion the sum of One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) was voted, and Mrs. Correlli C. Alger was selected as Director for the Town.
Article 13. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of One Thousand, Three Hundred Fifty-Seven Dollars, Thirty-Nine Cents ($1,357.39) for maintenance of Plymouth County Hospital under provision of Chapter 111, Section 85 of the General Laws. It was so voted.
Article 14. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00) for maintenance of a Visiting Nurse service in West Bridgewater. So voted.
Article 15. To see if the Town will vote to install two street lights on Sinnott Street. Voted to pass this Article.
Article 16. To see if the Town will vote to build a sidewalk on Matfield Street from Cyr Street to North Main Street or any part thereof and appropriate money for the same.
Upon motion it was voted to build the sidewalk on Mat- field Street as far as the money, $1,500.00, will permit, and that this sum be expended from the Highway appropriation. It was so voted.
Article 17. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of Fifty Dollars ($50.00) for the pur- pose of preserving the Town Records. So voted.

Article 18. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate from the Water Surplus Revenue the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) for Water Department maintenance. It was so voted.
Article 19. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of Five Thousand, One Hundred Eighty-Two Dollars, Twenty-Seven Cents ($5,182.27) from Water Revenue to pay bonds and interest. So voted.
Article 20. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate from the Water Surplus Revenue the sum of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) if the Public Works Ad- ministration will contribute a like sum, to replace two inch (2") water main with a six inch (6") main on Copeland Street. It was so voted.
Article 21. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate from the Water Surplus Revenue the sum of Three Thousand, Five Hundred Dollars ($3,500.00), in the event the Public Works Administration do not grant the larger sum as stated in Article 20. The location of replace- ment of pipe under this Article is left to the discretion of the Water Commissioners. It was so voted.
Article 22. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to install a Town Forest on land now owned by the Town. It was so voted.
Article 23. To see if the Town will vote to make the term of office of the Tax Collector three (3) years, instead of one year as at present, the change to become effective at the 1936 election. It was so voted.
Article 24. Moved that a committee of five be appointed at this meeting to investigate into the advis- ability of building a combined Police and Fire Station. That this committee inquire into the cost of a building suitable for such purpose as compared with other towns of com-

parative size. This committee to report at a special town meeting not later than April 22nd, 1935, provided it is de- termined that the Federal Public Works Administration will contribute one-half the cost of the proposed building. It was so voted.

Article 25. Moved that any available amount not in excess of the Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) be appro- priated from surplus revenue for purpose of reducing the tax levy of the current year. It was so voted.
Article 26. Moved to assess the several amounts appro- priated against the real estate and polls of the Town.
There being no further business to come before the meeting it was moved to dissolve the same. So voted.

SPECIAL TOWN MEETING, JUNE 20, 1935
Meeting called to order by Moderator, Howard B. Wil- bur, the Warrant was read by the Town Clerk and the meeting declared open to act upon the following Articles :
Article 1. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) to purchase a parcel of land for a swimming pool. Voted to pass this Article.
Article 2. To see what action the Town will take upon the offer of the Federal Government to grant 45% of the cost of a combined Fire and Police Station.

On motion, it was voted that the Town of West Bridge- water accept the terms of the Federal Government grant of 45% or more, of the cost of building a combined Fire and Police Station, and that a committee be appointed as to the building of the same, and report at a later meeting. The financing to be left in the hands of the Selectmen and Town Treasurer. So voted.
Committee appointed-Emmonds A. Porter, Gustav A. Peterson, Christopher Read, Gesner H. Roscoe, George W. Smith.
Article 3. To see what action the Town will take re- garding the proposed grant from the State for rebuilding West Street.
Moved, that the Town accept such grant as the State will make, and rebuild West Street. It was so voted.
There being no further business the meeting was, upon motion, dissolved.

Building Committee appointed by the Moderator- Howard B. Wilbur.
SPECIAL TOWN MEETING, AUGUST 2, 1935
The meeting was called to order by the Moderator, Howard B. Wilbur. The Warrant was read by the Town Clerk and the meeting was declared open to act upon the following Articles :
Article 1. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for the purpose of constructing

and equipping a Fire and Police Station, and authorize the Selectmen to petition the Federal Government for a grant of money under the Emergency Relief Appropriation Acts of 1935 for said purpose, and to accept such grant, and to authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Select- men, to borrow such sums as may be necessary to meet any appropriation made, or take any action relative thereto.
Moved, that the sum of Twenty-Five Thousand, One Hundred Dollars ($25,100.00) be raised and appropriated for the purpose of building and equipping a combined Fire and Police Station, in conjunction with the Federal Public Works Administration from which we are to receive 45% of the total cost of completed building in accordance with the requirements of the law, and upon such terms and con- ditions as required by the State division of accounts; further, that the Treasurer be authorized to arrange the financing, with the approval of the Selectmen, and for the purpose to borrow a sum not in excess of Nineteen Thou- sand Dollars ($19,000.00) and to issue a note or notes therefor. Upon a ballot vote the motion was lost, there being One Hundred Twenty-Three (123) ballots cast, Seven- ty-six (76) of which were in the affirmative, Forty-Seven (47) in the negative. By law a two-thirds vote in favor is required. Moderator declared motion lost.
Articles 2, 3, 4, all of which were relative to replace- ment of two inch water mains with pipe of larger diameter on Copeland Street. On motion, these Articles were passed.
Article 5. To see what action the Town will take to appropriate from the surplus revenue a sum not to exceed Nine Hundred Dollars ($900.00) to defray the additional expense of installing a heating system in the basement of the Town Hall. On motion, it was voted to appropriate this amount for said purpose.

SPECIAL TOWN MEETING, AUGUST 23, 1935
Meeting called to order by Moderator, Howard B. Wil- bur. The Warrant was read by the Town Clerk, after which the Moderator declared the meeting duly opened for action on the following Articles :
Article 1. This Article was presented by petition to the Selectmen to be placed upon the Warrant and is an ex- act repetition of Article 1 of the Special Town Meeting, August 2, 1935, except with regard to borrowed funds. In this Article the Treasurer and Selectmen are authorized to issue bonds or notes to be payable in not more than five years or at such terms and maximum rate of interest as may be fixed by the emergency finance board. All monies received from the Federal Government on account of this project shall be applied to meet the cost of said project, or in case the amount of loan authorized is in excess of the Town's share of the cost, it shall be applied to the loan herein authorized to the extent of such excess, or the amount to be borrowed shall be reduced by the amount of the grant received and applied to the cost of the project. The Selectmen are hereby authorized to file an application with the Federal Government for a grant of money under the Emergency Relief Appropriation, Acts of 1935, for the above purpose, and to accept such grants subject to applic- able Federal regulations. The chairman of the Finance Committee, Mr. Arthur E. Ryder, stated that the building committee approved the building of a combined Fire and Police Station. Upon ballot vote, counted by tellers, the re- sult was: Total vote cast, 314; a two-thirds vote being re- quired, 210; the vote in favor, 152; against, 162. The Moderator declared the motion lost.
Article 2. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from the surplus revenue a sum not to exceed One Hundred Fifty Dollars ($150.00) to defray the expense of Old Home Week Celebration.

Upon motion, the sum of One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) was voted to be appropriated for this purpose. Meeting adjourned.
