Chief of Fire Department, 1915 - 1936 Water Commissioner, 1919 - 1936 Chief of Police, 1926 - 1936
WARREN PRESTON LAUGHTON
On the morning of June 6th the community of the entire section was shocked to learn that our Chief of the Police and Fire Departments, Warren P. Laughton, had passed away during the early morning hours. In what appeared to be his usual good health and spirits he attended a ball game at six o'clock in the evening. Returning to his home shortly afterward he was stricken with a heart attack from which he failed to recover.
Born in Lewiston, Maine, in 1884, he came to West Bridgewater when a young man. He organ- ized the Fire Department and was appointed Chief in 1915. He was elected Water Commissioner in 1919. In 1926 he was appointed Chief of Police, having previously served as Patrolman for a num- ber of years. All Departments under his guidance grew in efficiency, as the requirements of an in- creased need became necessary. In addition to these offices which he retained by appointment and election, he served in many other capacities with honor and judgment tempered with kindly con- sideration.
The whole Town mourns the loss of a faithful official.

The meeting was called to order by the Moderator, Howard B. 12
William Gary, Counters; Grace Keenan, Mary Pratt, Lulu Gardner, Ellen Brown, Checkers of Voters; Christopher Read, Police; Dorothy Eckstrom, Clerk.
The ballot box was inspected by the police officer in charge, Warren P. Laughton, and found to be empty, and the register set at zero. Fifteen hundred ballots were de- livered to the Moderator by the Town Clerk and receipt given for same.
At nine o'clock A. M. the Moderator declared the polls open for casting ballots. At nine o'clock P. M. the Moderator declared the polls closed.
The Moderator, with the police officer in charge, counted the cast and unused ballots, and announced that the whole number of ballots cast was ten hundred twenty-two (1,022), four hundred seventy-eight unused ballots on hand, and that these figures tallied with the count of votes from check list, also with dial numbers shown on ballot box.
The ballots having been counted, sorted, and computed, as is by law required, the Moderator then declared the vote.
