REPORT OF THE SELECTMEN FOR THE YEAR 1947


The Selectmen submit the following report on the activities of their department for the year 1947.


There were held forty-eight regular meetings, nine special meetings, several joint meetings and numerous conferences and public hearings.


The Board organized on January 21, 1947, with the election of H. William Ander- son as Chairman.

Various resignations were effected during the year and elections or appointments made to fill the vacancies so made.


Miscellaneous Licenses and Permits


From time to time on application therefor and report thereon licenses and per- mits were granted for various activities as permitted by law as follows: namely, Common victuallers and transfers of same; Sunday amusements; pool rooms; bowling alleys; junk dealers; public amusements; roller skating rink; lodging houses; intelli- gence offices; fruit and vegetable stands; sales of frozen desserts, fruit, ice cream, confectionery; exchange of second hand motor vehicles and parts; taxicabs, business and private garages; keeping, storing and sale of volatile inflammable fluids, fuel oil, and other petroleum products, after hearings held, Class 1, II, and III licenses for purchase and sale of second hand motor parts and vehicles.


Permits


Dances, carnivals, field days, public meetings, public street parades, conduct of poppy drives on street, tag days.


January 21 - Permit granted to Emando Morini and Anthony A. Gulla to store volatile inflammable fluids at the corner of Washington Street and Short Street.


March 4 - Carnival permit granted to Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ladies Auxiliary for July 2, 3, 4, and 5, 1947, in the parking lot at the rear of the Nor- wood Theatre.


March 11 - Permit granted to St. George's Syrian Church of Norwood for a one o'clock dance for April 25, 1947, at the Elks Clubhouse.


March 18 - Carnival permit granted to Norwood Lodge of Elks and Emblem Club No. 55 on the park grounds, June 11, 12, 13, 14, 1947.


April 22 - Carnival permit granted to St. George's Syrian Men's and Ladies' Society for May 14-17 at Eliot Park.
