REPORT OF MUNICIPAL LIGHT DEPARTMENT
REPORT OF LINE FOREMAN
I am pleased to submit a report of the activities of the Line Crew of the Light Department for the year ending December 31, 1945.
The past year our work consisted mostly of repair work. We did not do any new construction work. With the help of an outside contractor we cut over part of Feeder No. 2 and No. 3 from 2,300 Volts to 4,160 Volts. Our Street Light trouble, such as breaking bulbs and globes, has decreased about 20% over the past year. We have a few Street Light Fixtures on the lines that have been burned out and will be replaced just as soon as we can get the new fixtures. We are going to try this year to put a man on Street Light Patrol two nights a week. It already has been started and we find it a great help. We are still short of help and we hope to overcome this situation this year.
We have added to our crew this past year two men, one Second Class Lineman and a Groundman which was a great help to us.
We installed new red light globes on all of our Fire Alarm boxes and are trying hard to keep them up. We find that someone has been breaking them but we re- place them as fast as we can.
On February 12, 1945, we were called upon to help the City of Taunton on trouble they had which was caused by snowstorm. We sent two Linemen to help them out. Again on March 3, 1945, we were called on for help by the Town of Middleboro. At this time we sent three men. Since then we have received some nice comments on the work the men did. I am in hopes that this year we will have some help and that we can take care of everything that might hit us. We had our large truck out plowing snow for the Public Works Department. Our equipment is in good shape.
At this time I wish to thank our retired Superintendent, Mr. C. C. Church, for the kindness he has shown us and I also wish to thank my Line Crew for the fine co- operation they have given me, and also the rest of the Light Department personnel.

REPORT OF CEMETERY DEPARTMENT
Mr. Francis W. Smith, General Manager.
Dear Sir:
Following is the annual report of the Cemetery Department for 1945:
The Department took care of 176 burials, all in Highland Cemetery. No burials were made in Old Parish Cemetery. Foundations were built for 51 monuments.
No improvement work was done this year. This was due to shortage of man- power.
A new portable type air compressor was bought in the latter part of the year. It is expected that this equipment will expedite the work of digging graves in frozen ground.
Respectfully submitted,
LOUIS J. D'ESPINOSA, Superintendent.

TOWN OF NORWOOD
REPORT OF THE NORWOOD COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SAFETY .
The Honorable Board of Selectmen.
Gentlemen:
Summary of Activities 1941-1945
The first meeting of the Executive Committee was held on Friday evening, May 9th, 1941, at the Municipal Building. Chairman Joseph A. Sheehan outlined the origin and purposes of the organization.
Report of activities for 1941 will be found in the first section of the 1942 Town Report. Reports of activities for 1942, 1943 and 1944 will be found in the Annual Town Reports.
Report of Activities 1945
The armed forces of the Allied powers had made so much progress that by Janu- ary, 1945, all fear of bombing attacks along the eastern seaboard had disappeared. The several divisions were placed on an "inactive status" from time to time and on May 15th, 1945, the organization was disbanded by vote of the Board of Selectmen.
Citizens Participating in Civilian Defense
In order that the members of the civilian organization may receive some token of recognition for their services rendered during the War Emergency, a list of their names are hereinafter made a part of this report for a permanent record of their service.
(Note: The following lists have been compiled and carefully checked from the records in the card files and include all who served; no distinction being made between (1) those who served throughout the emergency period 1941-1945, and (2) those who served only a part of that period. In some instances the same name is listed under different headings where that person served in more than one capacity, or served in another capacity during different periods of time.)
