REPORT OF TOWN CLERK

Voted: To accept the Report of the Committee on Fire Station For Town as a Whole.

The report of the Committee on the Above Article is as follows:

REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON FIRE STATION FOR TOWN AS A WHOLE

This Committee was authorized by the Town Meeting on 26 March 1953 to study the fire station location requirements of the Town as a whole.

Previously, this same Committee had reported to the Town Meeting on the desirability of having a fire station in South Norwood. However the Town Meeting Members decided that a question like this should be studied for the Town as a whole, and authorized the Committee to make the broader study.

For technical assistance the Committee has received the help of two groups; one, the New England Fire Insurance Rating Association and the other, the National Fire Protection Association. The former group had made a report on the Town's fire protection facilities 26 years ago and at that time had recommended that a branch fire station should be built in South Norwood. The New England Fire Insurance Rating Association now advises that it cannot undertake a restudy of the Town's fire defenses, but feels that their old recommendation would still hold.
