In all, at par, Ten Thousand and Three Hundred Dollars. The annexed account current for the past year presents a cash bal- ance of Six Hundred and Seventy Two and 11-100 Dollars, ($672.11), which will be insufficient to discharge the expenses of the present long term of the school, and defray necessary outlays for additional equipment of the school rooms, hall, and other portions of the building. A comparison with the report of the year 1866 will show that the Trustees have sold two thousand dollars ($2000) U. S. stock in order to meet the appro- priation made in co-operation with the town for the enlargement and improvement of "Stetson Hall." The fund is reduced at a par valuation to nearly the amount of the original donation ($10,000), although the investments now held, would, at their market value, purchase nearly $14,000 of securities of the char- acter of those constituting the bequest of the Hon. Amasa Stetson, in the year 1843. Since our last report the income from the hall has necessarily been quite small, so large a por- tion of the desirable season for its use having been occupied in repairs. It is now hoped, however, that with the conveniences and improvements, which commend themselves to all, another year's statement will show most satisfactory receipts. The

school has, for nearly six months, been obliged to vacate its rooms, and has found accommodations in the Randolph Read- ing Room, but returns to its former apartments the ensuing week, which present a most marked advance in convenience, and furnish facilities never before enjoyed,-such as the Trustees carnestly hope may not only prove attractive, but useful to a larger number of pupils than at any previous periods. Not- withstanding the embarrassments under which the school has labored, on account of contracted apartments in temporary quar- ters, the Trustees are confident that those in attendance through the last year have not only passed their time profitably, but made a progress satisfactory to their parents and friends, how- ever critical they may be in their investigations. The pupils have varied from about thirty to nearly fifty, with a much small- er number of boys than would be gratifying to all friends of the school. The Trustees have so often urged their desire for a larger attendance, that they almost despair of awakening citizens to the importance of securing for their children the advantages that are being offered to them. With the changes now made in the school-rooms their capacity is equal to the accommoda- tion of at least seventy-five scholars, and while our population should offer not less than that number, the Trustees are confi- dent the town will in future, as heretofore, provide liberally for educational purposes. The limited number of pupils, the past year, has rendered it inexpedient to employ an assistant, and the school has continued in the sole charge of Mr. V. H. Deane.
