In all Eleven Thousand Dollars, besides a cash balance as stated, of $198.14. In their last Annual Report, the Trus- tees stated that the original fund of $10,000 in Massachusetts . State five per cent. stock, had been sold, and new investments made in the ten last named banks, above. The income re- ceived during the year on the fund as reinvested, including an extra divend from the Shawmut Bank of $90.00 is $865.00, an excess of $365.00 over the interest that would have been realized on the State Funds, and about $100.00 more than the premium paid in the purchase of the Bank Stock. In view of this result and future prospects, the Board are fully convinced of the propriety of the course pursued by the Trustees and Selectmen of last year in the change of investment.
The School has been fully attended during the year 1854, and at the opening of the term more applicants than ever pre- sented themselves for admission. The Trustees have always filled the desks when boys of proper qualifications have offered themselves, and have now determined, in order to accommo- date a larger, number of pupils, to remove the present entry and closets on the inside, and erect upon the outside a portico that shall include the requisite rooms for the use of the schol- ars. This change will give desks for ten additional scholars,
