Greeting: In the name of the Commonwealth anesaid you are hereby required to notify the legal votre of said Chelmsford to meet in the Typen Town fall at Clubmsford antre, on Tuesday the Fifth day of thay next, at 8 o'clock in the evening then and there to act upem the following articles, viz:


Article _ To see if the Town will with to raise and appropriate or four a sum not exceeding Seven Thousand Dollars ($7000.00) In the purpose of purchasing a triple Continuation fire truck to be located at the antre Village; or act in relation thereto.

In presenting this gift to the Town the Amable Senator- Moderator Perham, said; "We have just passed an important


anniversary in Massachusetts, the scene of which was enacted in the neighboring towns of Lexington and Grund. The 19th of april thanks the victory of an ideal, the beneficent resulta of which present to parallel in the history of Mankind .


This event is of particular interest to many of us where ancestors joined the two Companies of Minute then in Chelmsford mine than 100 in number and marched to Comend on the morning of the 19th of april 175 Shortly after, in June 175 when the Continental Congress was sitting in Philadelphia. Lenge Waslington was chosen to be Commander in Chief of the american Forces. He was Animated by Samuel adams of Massachusetts. On the 2nd of July Washington arrived in Cambridge and made his headquartin at the Craigis Anice, later occupied by the Poet Lingfillno.


On the following day July 3rd Several Washington took formal command of the Continental firmy under the shade of the famme Washington Elm This historic Elm which stood for more than two centuries, no longer remains to arouse the patriotism of the present generation, but the site has been perpetuated by the replacement of another live at the hands of Vice President Howle on the Holiday just przed. It has been announced in the Public prece that

MAY -5 1925 that President Coolidge will deliver an address at this famme site suitably Commemorating the 10th anniversary of Wadingtona Command on the 3rd of July next. It has been my good fortune to obtain a piece of word from the old Waslington Elm which has been fachioned into a good, and I have the hon Mr. Moderator and ladies and gentlemen to present this gavel to the Town of Clubmind, I present it through your Executive Officer Chinman of the Board of Selectrun Un. Senge W. Hay the same to be for the use of Moderators of the Town at futurs Town Mutings. The gavel is a symbol of order , an emblem of authority, and may the historic significance of this gavel, serve as an inspiration to all our citizens to emulate the precept and example of the immortal Washington.


Mr. Senge W. Hay, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen , in behalf of the Town of Clubinspired accepted this gift , and said as follows;


Mr. Moderaten, - Citizens and Sinsto Berham,. the word from which this gavel was hade was once an entrical feast of the Washington Em, the supply was limited, but through premal effort, Sinsto Perhas obtained this piece of wood and has had it finished as you are it and fittingly engraved and tendero it is the Town so that aulafred May have a moments of three historical times which meant so much to Our Frefatture, the fruits of where spirito we enjoy today, In behalf of the Town of Clubford I accept this "Sovel" in the same spirit in which it is tendered, and I herewith turn this gift over to the Town Clube for at this and subsequent Town Mutange :

Monahan, that this article be left with the Board of Fire Engineus to reject on at the next Annual Town meeting, an amend ment was made to the motion that the Engineers also study and repent the needs of Smith Clubrefund and West Clubmsford Fine Department, the amendment was carried. and it was so voted.
