D. 1893. The meeting was called to order at the time and place named in said warrant, by the Town Clerk, who presided at the choice of Moderator.
Article One-Elisha Greenhood was chosen Moderator by written ballot, in receiving which the check list was used.
Articles Two and Three-These articles were taken up and acted upon together, and it was voted that said articles be indefin- itely postponed, and on a verification of the vote it was found that one hundred and twenty-four persons had voted in the affirmative. and fifty-six persons had voted in the negative, and said articles were declared indefinitely postponed.
Article Four-Voted that the subject matter of this article be indefinitely postponed.

The Board of Selectmen hereby grants a license to John A. Hirsch to keep or suffer to be kept, pool tables, on the ground floor of the second building north of Chauncey Street, on the Westerly side of Bussey Street, opposite Merchants Woolen Mill, in the Easterly part of said Dedham, for public hire, to be used for amusement merely, but not for the purpose of gaming for money or other property, until May 1st, 1894. Respectfully represent the undersigned, legal voters of the said Town of Dedham, that the selectmen of said town have un- reasonably refused to call a town meeting, requested to be called by 200 of the legal voters of the said town, by a petition stating the objects for which they sought the calling of said meeting, in pursuance of the by-laws of said town, which were in, in sub- stance the following, to wit :-
1. To see if the Town will instruct the Selectmen not to interfere with the use by the Dedham Brass Band of the public land on the easterly side of Washington street, opposite Memorial hall, for the purpose of giving public rehearsals and concerts, gratuitously, until further action by the town inconsistent with such use, and to take any other action with reference to such land as the town may see fit.

To see if the Town will instruct the Selectmen not to interfere with the use by Charles Russell, as a town weigher, of the public land on the easterly side of Washington street, oppo- site Memorial hall, until further action by the Town inconsistent with such use, and to take any other action with reference to such land as. the Town may see fit.

Article One-Preston R. Mansfield was appointed and' sworn by the Town Clerk, a teller to aid in receiving, sorting and" counting votes for Moderator.
Erastus Worthington was elected Moderator by written. ballot, in receiving which the check list was used.
Articles Two and Three-Voted that Articles Two and Three. be taken up and acted upon together. On motion of Elisha Greenhood it was voted that debate cease and the questions be taken on said articles not later than half-past nine o'clock this evening.
On motion of Elisha Greenhood it was
Voted that the Selectmen be and are hereby instructed not to interfere with the use by the Dedham Brass Band of the town land opposite Memorial Hall, on the easterly side of Washington Street, for the purpose of giving free concerts, until further action by the town, and not to do anything to said land which shall pre- vent the people of the town from entering upon the same with horses and .carriages for all legal purposes for which said land was set apart.
Also Voted that the Selectmen be and are hereby instructed. not to interfere with the use, by Charles Russell, as a town weigher, of the town land opposite Memorial Hall, on the east -. erly side of Washington Street, until further action by the town.
Also Voted that the Selectmen be and are hereby instructed to defray the expense of calling this meeting, from the town treasury, to the same extent and in the same manner, as if the meeting had been called by the Selectmen themselves.
And on motion the meeting was dissolved.

Permission is hereby granted to the New England Telephone & Telegraph Company of Massachusetts, to erect and maintain poles and wires thereon in the location shown on the map or plan filed, in the following named streets and highways in the Town of Dedham, in the County of Norfolk and Commonwealth of Massa- ·chusetts, to wit :-
High street, between East and Ames streets.
Ames street, near High street,-2 poles.
Court street, between High street and Village avenue.
Village avenue, between Court and High streets.
High street, between Village avenue and Common street.
Bridge street, from High street to the River. Common street, between High and Haven streets.
Haven street, between Common and High streets.
East street, between High and Clark streets.
Clark street, between East and Mt. Vernon streets.
Mt. Vernon street, between Railroad Crossing and Auburn :street.
The above permit is granted upon the following conditions :
The posts shall be of the material of the poles now standing in said town, or other suitable material, and shall be not less than twenty-five feet in length. The wires shall be not less than twenty feet from the ground and located substantially as now run.
If at any time it becomes necessary, in the judgment of the Board of Selectmen, to direct alterations in locations of any poles, fixtures or wires now located in the streets of said town, such al- terations in location shall be made by said Company at its own · expense whenever duly ordered by the Selectmen.
If at any time the service furnished to any subscriber by said Company is interrupted from any cause the Company shall make a proportionate rebate in the teleplione rental to be paid by such subscriber, in the manner provided in the terms and condi- tions by said Company's service contract now in use.

Said Company shall not trim any trees standing in the streets of said town except under the supervision of a competent person to be appointed by the Board of Selectmen, and the expense of such supervision shall be paid by said Company.
If at any time hereafter said Company adopts for general use any improvements in telephone instruments or appliances, said Company shall, upon the request of the Selectmen, or the petition of any subscriber desiring equipment with such improved devices, furnish the same upon the same terms and conditions as such devices are furnished elsewhere under similar service re- quirements.

The meeting was called to order at 7 o'clock a. m., by the Town Clerk, who read the warrant.
E. Scott Morse and Aaron W. Baker were appointed by the Selectmen as ballot clerks under the provisions of Chapter 417, Acts of 1893, and were then sworn to the faithful perform- ance of their duties by the Town Clerk, and acted as ballot clerks under the provisions of said Act.

John F. Reilly and Crawford R. Brown were appointed by the Selectmen as additional ballot clerks, were also duly sworn by the Town Clerk, and in the absence of the ballot clerks, acted in their place.
Twenty-three voting shelves or compartments were provided by the Town according to the requirements of said act and guarded as therein required. The first set of ballots furnished for said election by the Secretary of the Commonwealth was. before the opening of the polls on said day, delivered by the Town Clerk, sealed, to the Chairman of the Selectmen, and his receipt taken therefor. The ballot box called the Standard, fur- nished and certified to by the Secretary of the Commonwealth, was, before the balloting began, opened in public meeting and examined by the Selectmen and Town Clerk, and found to be ·empty, and register of said box was set at zero (0) and thereupon locked as required by law.
The seals of the package containing the first set of ballots were publicly broken by the Chairman of the Selectmen, and the same were delivered to the ballot clerks, and the cards of instruction and specimen ballots were posted in the voting compartments and about the room as required by law, after which the polls were declared open for the reception of votes. The ballots were delivered to each voter by the ballot clerks after the name of such voter had first been publicly announced and his name been duly checked by said clerks upon the voting list used by them.
The ballot as delivered to each voter, was by him marked in one of the voting compartments aforesaid, and thereafter by each voter deposited by him in said Standard ballot box, after his name had first been publicly announced at said box, and duly checked upon the voting list by the election officers in charge of .said box and list.
The Selectmen appointed Edward L. Burdakin, Willie W. Baker, Frank W. Powers, Crawford R. Brown, Frank E. Morse, Charles A. Cline, Joseph A. Laforme, Frederick B. Kingsbury, Alfred B. Page, Howard Colburn, John P. Cutter, F. Alaric Pelton, John E. Fisher, Thomas J. Hannon, John F. Reilly, William C. Williams, Chester A. Reed, Alonzo B. Wentworth, as tellers to aid them in receiving, sorting and counting said ballots,
