TOWN OF DOUGLAS
All members of the Police Department attended, completed and passed the Standard Course of Instruction in First Aid to the in- jured that was held over a nine week period at the Town Hall in E. Douglas. The weekly meetings were held during the months of February, March and April of 1950.
All mmbers of the Department assisted in the work of procur- ing volunteers to donate blood at the Red Cross blood program that was held at Douglas on 9-29 50.
The entire Police Department took active part in locating a missing girl who was lost in the woods near the Whitinsville Reser- voir area. The girl was found by one of the Officers. A letter of Commendation for the Police Department was received by the Board of Selectmen regarding this incident from the parents of the girl.
The Auxiliary Police Force which was so active during World War II has been re-organized to meet the present world crisis. At present there are twenty-five members. We are bringing up this membership to forty. Instruction on all Police work along with Executive Orders regarding Civilian Defense are to be given to this group along with the regular Police, so that they will be able to cope with any emergency.
The Motor Vehicle Accident rate for the Town of Douglas re- mained about average. In fact we had one less accident in 1950 than in 1949. We did not have any fatal accidents in either 1949 or 1950. Therefore it was with some surprise that we learned that the Insurance rates for Douglas had been jumped about $2.00. Investi- gation disclosed, however, that this was not caused by the accidents occuring in this Town but the fact that cars registered in Douglas were being involved in accidents elsewhere. In other words the In- surance rates are not governed by where the accidents take place but from where the cars involved are registered. So again we try to impress upon the motorists of Douglas to drive carefully every- where and not just in your own Town.
The itemized financial statement follows:
Appropriation :
Town Meeting $7,200.00
$7,200,00
