Report of the Committee appointed to Confer with Departments in regard to

APPROPRIATIONS.
The committee chosen by the town to | erseers of poor, $200; assessors, $400; reg. consult with the heads of the depart- ments in regard to the appropriations for the coming year have attended to their duties and submit the following report:
The committee gave a public hearing on March 8, which the heads of the va- rious boards of the town attended and submitted their estimates for each de- partment, and the committee received from them such information as was nec- essary for the preparation of this report.
For the fire department the committee recommend an appropriation for salaries of $1,875,and for current expenses$1,000. The committee also recommend an ap- propriation for new ladders of $150. In the opinion of the committee no appro- priation should be made for painting the hook and ladder truck, but this expense should come out of the current expenses.
For the pauper department we recom- mend an appropriation of $3,500.
For highways and bridges we recom- mend an appropriation of $3,000.
We recommend for electric lights an appropriation of $2,600.
For the support of our schools we rec- ommend an appropriation of $11,500, and for school incidentals $2,175. The $500 additional over last year's school appro- priation we recommend be applied for the increase of salaries of teachers exclu- sive of the high school. The committee recommend no appropriation in regard to the boiler in the Phillips street school, or ventilation of the Grove street school buildings, but recommend that the same be referred to a special committee to re- port at a future meeting.
We recommend for the use of hydrants an appropriation of $820
For the repair of sidewalks we recom- mend an appropriation of $300.
For cemeteries we recommend an ap- propriation of $400.
For soldiers' aid we recommend $250.
For Memorial day we recommend $150. For library service we recommend $600.
For salaries we recommend the follow- ing appropriations: Selectmen, $300; ov-
istrars, $180; collector of taxes, $200; treasurer, $150; town clerk, $50; treas- urer of sinking fund, $50; water com- missiouers, $150; superintendent of water works and sewer $600; police depart- ment, $1,000.
For contingent fund we recommend $1,000.
We find that the following appropria- tions will be necessary to pay the bonds falling due, the interest of the town debt. and the amount necessary to be paid to the sewer and engine house sinking funds, as reported by the town treasurer : Loan of 1887, $2,000 00
