A suitable parking area must be provided off the public ways for all automobiles used by persons within the business, as well as for a reasonable number of automobiles of customers, clients or other persons patronizing the business establishment. The formula for determining the proposed number of parking spaces required shall be submitted to the Selectmen at the same time that the application for a building permit is submitted to Building Inspector, required under the Building By-Law of the Town of Acton.

ABSTRACT OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE SPECIAL TOWN MEETING December 12, 1960


Meeting was called to order by the Moderator at 8:00 P. M. in the Blanchard Auditorium with 8 voters present, namely: Moderator - James E. Kinsley; Town Clerk - Charles M. MacRae; Selectmen - Charles D. MacPherson, Arthur W. Lee and Lawrence Donnelly; Plan- ning Board members - John H. Loring, Donald E. Donnelly and David P. Tinker; Recreation Commission member - Patience MacPherson. Small attendance due to heavy snowfall. Motion from Mr. MacPherson that the meeting be adjourned to 8:00 P. M. on Tuesday, December 20, 1960 at the Blanchard Auditorium. Voted.


The Moderator called the meeting to order at 8:00 P. M. on Tues- day, December 20, 1960.


ARTICLE 1 CRUISERS


To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from available funds the sum of $1,650.00, or any other sum, to be used in conjunction with $2,200.00 voted at the Annual Town Meeting, March 14, 1960, for the purchase of two police cruisers for the Police Department, or take any other action relative thereto. (Inserted by Board of Selectmen) .


Voted: To appropriate from the Surplus Revenue Account the sum of $1,650.00, to be used in conjunction with $2,200.00 voted at the Annual Town Meeting, March 14, 1960, for the purchase of two police cruisers for the Police Department.


ARTICLE 2 LOADER


To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from available funds the sum of $500.00, or any other sum, for the purchase of a front end loader for the Farmall Cub Tractor for the Highway Department, or take any other action relative thereto. (Inserted by Board of Selectmen).

ARTICLE 4 TOWN HALL


To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from available funds the sum of $1,800.00, or any other sum, for necessary alterations and repairs to the Town Hall Heating system, or take any other action rela- tive thereto. (Inserted by Board of Selectmen).


Voted: To appropriate from Overlay Reserve the sum of $1,800.00, for necessary alterations and repairs to the Town Hall Heating system.

ARTICLE 5 RECREATION COMMISSION


To see if the Town will authorize the Recreation Commission to acquire by purchase, for recreational purposes three parcels of land, with the buildings thereon, situated in the Northerly part of Acton, on either side of Wheeler Lane and bounded approximately as follows: NORTHERLY by land formerly of Hollowell, Sheehan and Miller; WESTERLY by land formerly of Miller and Murphy; SOUTHERLY by land formerly of Murphy, Luther Conant and Estelle T. Davis; and EASTERLY by land formerly of Blanchard & Gould Co., the Mill Pond and Hollowell. Containing in all about forty-four acres, more or less. And to appropriate from any available source the sum of $38,000.00, therefor, said sum to be applicable to the cost of the land and the buildings and to any costs in connection with the purchase thereof, to do or act thereon. (Inserted by Recreation Commission) .

ARTICLE 6 CONSERVATION COMMISSION


To see if the Town will accept Section 8 c of Chapter 40 of the General Laws, inserted by Section 1 of Chapter 495 of the Acts of 1957 and to establish a Conservation Commission for the promotion and development of the natural resources and for the protection of Water Shed Resources of the Town, consisting of five members of the Town, one a member of the Board of Selectmen, one a member of the Planning Board, one a member of the Recreation Commission, and two more persons, all to be appointed by the Selectmen. The terms of the members of the Commission shall be as follows: one member to serve for one year, two members to serve for two years and two members to serve for three years, their successors to be appointed for three years each; and to appropriate or transfer from available funds the sum of $200.00, or any other sum, therefor, or take any other action relative thereto. (Inserted by Recreation Commission) .

(Inserted by Board of Selectmen) .

ARTICLE 10 STREETS

Professional signs of six (6) square feet or less in area shall not require a license provided that said signs are on the premises of the person or company offering the services advertised and, in the case of real estate signs, are on the premises offered for sale or lease.


Motion: To amend the Protective Zoning By-Law of the Town of Acton by striking out Section II, Subsection 3 and inserting in place thereof, the following new section :
